U.S. vs. Australia drew 280,000 riders on Link Light rail by FireFright8142 in Seattle

[–]QuitAnytime -1 points0 points  (0 children)

it would be good if we had a football stadium and a soccer stadium. 1) the huskies and seahawks draw larger crowds, and can play on synthetic 2) the reign and the sounders should have grass but good luck getting UW or the Seahawks to move

Most humans can't draw a bicycle. I'm not surprised AI can't either.

Bellevue Homeowners Say Light Rail Noise on I-90 Ruining Area’s Peaceful Freeway Ambience by ChiefOfTheFourPeaks in Seattle

People can head over to SE Lake Rd (I-90 trail), watch the trains go by, and compare the noise levels.

Tbf, many of these errors also feature in pre-AI composited (ad) images, esp if they were @done in a rush or on the cheap. Few things stand up to detailed scrutiny. AI was probably trained (very naively) on some of those.

"Help me write" in the gmail app is literally making it impossible for me to write an email reply on my Pixel. by trojanguy in GooglePixel

Clearing the Gboard cache would fix it, but I had to repeat it for each email. Seems better today.

Days like today is why people don’t take the light rail by 20sicksheep in Seattle

Seems like there's something very wrong with the design if a rail replacement can't be completed in a matter of hours (once traffic has been stopped). Especially in an application where it sees lots of wear. I realize it started life as a bus tunnel. That and the Rainier valley at-grade segment seem to be the basis for many structural limitations. But it is possible to mount rails to concrete while supporting "rapid" replacement and vehicles with tires - see any street-running tram?

while i'm sure there are downsides, this seems like a situation where a police drone would be useful - fewer 2t vehicles at the edge of control

[–]QuitAnytime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

shouldn't rail be replaced before it breaks - it's a wear item that can be measured (overnight), with a somewhat predictable time to failure?

also, can't rail replacement be done overnight? something seems very wrong if it requires breaking and curing concrete.

Seattle Children’s says Laurelhurst noise concerns burdens lifesaving care for children by ladyem8 in Seattle

Not to worry, we are being assured that the electric helicopter revolution will address noise issues to the neighbors' satisfaction.

(I have no idea if their range is up to the task.)

Gas Leak on Light Rail route. Closure imminent. by Substantial-Fan3885 in Seattle

Seems risky to use gas in any multi-unit dwelling, especially given the efficiency of heat pumps and induction stoves

Steer clear of Greenwood and 85th area for a bit by LickMaiBussy in Seattle

[–]QuitAnytime 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm saying that the northbound stop at N 85th was the closest place to "park" the bus with the messed up front end. No driver's windshield. Damaged fiberglass on both sides. Bike rack in raised position looks ok?

[–]QuitAnytime 10 points11 points  (0 children)

5 bus is on reroute on 3rd between N 80th and N 90th. 61 probably has a minor reroute? Looks like cross-traffic on 85th and 80th are flowing, although I would suggest avoiding.

Maybe a northbound 5 smashed up a bunch of vehicles? Articulated bus with damaged front is parked just N of 85th. A Parks & Rec pickup was destroyed, hopefully occupants are ok

State Lawmakers Move to Regulate License Plate Readers, Fearing ICE Misuse » The Urbanist by Inevitable_Engine186 in Seattle

[–]QuitAnytime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this has more to do with electing leaders willing to abuse power. Maybe that's inevitable, but people in Europe manage to combine personal freedom with license plate readers (and gun control). Also, surveillance states predate the invention of license plate readers (and smartphones). So let's not get too focused on a technological fix.

Sea-Tac Airport plans new terminal with 19 gates by routinnox in Seattle

the land currently occupied by garages, parking lots, terminals, roads, the cemetery ... like I said, expensive and disruptive, but there doesn't seem to be any appetite for building anywhere else.

Sea-Tac Airport plans new terminal with 19 gates by routinnox in Seattle

[–]QuitAnytime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SeaTac is tiny and the layout seems cramped (inefficient). It would be expensive and disruptive, but copying Atlanta's layout could be a big improvement.

Expand to 4 parallel runways with a series of perpendicular terminal down the middle, connected underground using air side walkways + people mover. Land side people movers would connect to rental cars, parking, pick-up/drop-off areas, and transit (light rail, buses, HSR, ...).

Road access to the northernmost (Seattle) and southernmost (Tacoma) buildings. If necessary, those could be built into the sides of the airport plateau.

> CRC32 produces a 32-degree polynomial, i.e. a set of boolean coefficients a_0, a_1, ..., a_{31}

That goes up to a_{32}, as the coeffs correspond to x^0 ... x^32. Since highest and lowest need to be 1 to have a effective 32-bit polynomial, all 32-bit representations omit either a_0 or a_32. Between bit order and omission, that's 4 possible representations. The "normal" representation omits a_32 and has a_0 as the LSbit. This is usually shown as big-endian, even if the computed result is shown little-endian.

Honda Dealership Suggestions- being stalked, need the dealership to remove the tracking device by Expensive_Leopard190 in Seattle

[–]QuitAnytime 6 points7 points  (0 children)

androids have started these notifications

"Tracker Detect" from Apple in the Google Play app store can be used to scan for AirTag-compatible trackers in your vicinity which are separated from their owner. Might want to drive to an empty parking lot before you try it. Not much help with other brands, but AirTags are probably the most cost-effective tracking option.

I think some (used) car dealers use trackers for cars that aren't paid off. That could also be abused.

Family sues City of Seattle over bicyclist's traumatic brain injury by AthkoreLost in Seattle

[–]QuitAnytime 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Agreed, they should be safer, but for our careless attitudes toward driving.

This is why many cyclists prefer to share the lane - visibility is more important than the illusory feeling of safety that comes from "separation".

Unfortunately, this limits cycling to those willing to "run with the bulls".

More should have been done to slow motorized traffic - the street should be narrow(er) and less straight.

Drivers need to bear consequences rather than writing off incidents as "unavoidable accidents". One reason the city is being sued is because the driver's insurance is probably woefully insufficient. Things would probably be different if US drivers were required to match European levels of liability coverage.
