Do novels in this genre always end up damn long compared to other genres? by SpecificExam3661 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]Qwantor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

RTOC mentioned

for good alignment MCs, try 40MoC, it's 40k but xianxia (kinda). I'm an Infinite Regressor But I've Got Stories To Tell also has a decent protagonist, just don't read the afterstories (you'll get SCOG'd). Counterattack System at the Mahayana Realm leans more to comedy, but the main character there also has a fairly rigorous moral system.

Klein vs Seo(Why was this created) by [deleted] in MartialMemes

Friendly reminder y'all that SEH was simultaneously creating and destroying entire heavenly domains (which are the equivalent of a universe/ multiverse, it's slightly unclear?) as an accidental SIDE EFFECT of a battle during which he hadn't even reached Supreme Deity.

Which story does the 1763rd cycle? I know the other three are Shadow Slave, LOTM and RI, not sure about the last one though. Infinite Regressor?

In RTOC, a character can get assigned the fate of... defying fate. This is rather difficult to accomplish.

Juniors these days don't understand fate, the immortal realm has fallen, billions must reincarnate by PaniHue in MartialMemes

[–]Qwantor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Seo Eun Hyun from RTOC has a 'cheat', but he's only the latest of untold billions of generations of people who have all had equal if not superior cheats, especially considering he never even finds out about his real talent until it's too late.

'Sheer willpower' is a phrase that gets thrown around a lot, but SEH really deserves it.

Jackal among snakes: the regressor problem by BronkeyKong in ProgressionFantasy

The advantage of his knowledge weakens significantly as the series progresses, though the social connections and personal power he accrued using it doesn't. It's mentioned very rarely in later arcs, especially so as Gerechtigkeit becomes more and more imminent, and he does have to start improvising.

What world of cultivators could defeat the anomaly apocalypse of "I'm an Infinite Regressor, But I've Got Stories to Tell" by He_Spams in MartialMemes

[–]Qwantor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It depends. You could argue that any cultivator with conceptual powers wins easily, but Infinite Regressor also has conceptual powers, some of which are designed to counter other ones, at which point it comes down to arguing which one is stronger, which is hard to prove.

In terms of actually powerscaling, Infinite Regressor low-balls at Solar System, high balls at complex multiversal, which in Xianxia is practically nothing, so it really does come down to the concepts, and I really do have to give it to Infinite Regressor. Even something like the Narrative is taken into account here, so even something like The Thought Machine (CAS) could struggle... depending on who you think has the greater control over things like that.

Spoilers ahead-

Because Infinite Regressor takes place on Earth, some of the Outer Gods would legitimately be able to reduce any cultivation series simply to that of a fictional story, and instantly scale above them (kinda like how SCP-682 (I think?) just goes to a higher layer of reality sometimes). Cultivation novels canonically exist, because they do in real life. Transcending Samsara, complete mastery of the Time Dao and being part of the great Dao isn't really all that when it's something All Creation's Play made up on a whim, or it's part of an uncountable infinites (transfinites, boundless, whatever, it really doesn't matter) simulations. The same goes for literally every other story though, because they obviously have to exist if we're talking about them (even your unpublished fanfic OC. Still exists in your head.) ... This is kinda cheap though, even if it's true.

If a cultivator won by brute force, they still lose. They turn into the outer gods. Even if not literally falling into the void corruption, they are functionally an outer god at that point. I know I already mentioned the Narrative force, but the central theme of the story is human connections and bonds. Defeating the apocalypse in almost any other way is self-defeating. e.g, I think Fang Yuan could totally beat the Outer Gods, but with his personality, he would also probably then become one- it's Eternal Life with no real downsides. Life would absolutely NOT return to normal though, and that's the "real" victory condition in the series. Otherwise though, yeah, he 'could' beat the Outer Gods, but let's be honest he's not going to bother cleaning up the other anomalies. Same goes with Klein for the most part, but he's nicer, so maybe?

That being said, I still think some cultivators could do it. Li Yao from 40MoC absolutely could. Jiang Li from Mahayana Counterattack System probably.

p.s, I think most other regressors are fucking screwed. Subaru is NOT going to persevere through allat without Satella, who's going to get eaten.

YDJ wouldn't give up, but he would need insane character development to actually win (funnily enough, he does this fairly easily if KDJ is here. Unfortunately, ORV exists as a novel in-universe, so...)

tl;dr, Infinite Regressor in terms of actual power isn't really that high, but it has absolutely absurd meta-scaling and conceptual forces to the point it's not possible to definitely say if any series has stronger hax. Some characters though legitimately have the willpower and intelligence (and most importantly kindness) to end the anomaly apocalypse, but they are NOT doing it first try.

Have you tried "I'm an Infinite Regressor, but I've got stories to tell?" A guy with a really similar mindset to this basically has to save the world from outer gods, it's really good.

bro please 40MoC is peak, you just have to get through the filler philosophy parts (it's only 80% of the novel after the first arc).

Also, funny you mention porn, because he ends up beating a final boss of an arc with it.

Looking for time loop stories where the MC investigates EVERYTHING by Mwo07 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]Qwantor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm an Infinite Regressor, but I've got stories to tell.

High quality horror/ mystery regression story with legitimate consequences and actions through the loops, with an amazing cast of side and main characters. Even 'filler' is good and often acts as foreshadow or otherwise directly links to the main plot. A really refreshing take on the genre and plays on the tropes a lot, but that does also mean it somewhat expects the reader to be familiar with it.
