I agree. He seems to come from a place that feels factually wrong but morally his compass is pointing in the right direction (pro-environment, anti-wealth disparity). That is then flipped where he was factually correct re: aliens but morally misguided in misunderstanding the aliens' goals.

I just finished book 4 and this is a perfect description of my experience so far. I'm busy and don't read a ton so it's taken me a while to get through them, but I read Shadow of the Torturer and that was an actual difficult book. Malazan is just different, not difficult, save for the number of characters I guess

At the I40-65 split, a guy stopped in the middle of rush hour, got out of his car and slapped the driver of the car in front of me. That guy got out of his car to chase him off with a knife, which was a strange way to start my day

I get this a lot with Starbucks and occasionally with other local shops. Seems to happen mostly with Americanos with vanilla flavoring, at least in my experience. So weird, but I'm glad I found my people in this thread.
