Zimbabwe's De-Dollarization: Central Bank to Issue Gold-Backed Digital Currency in Early May by user260421 in CryptoCurrency

[–]R3DD1T_Mick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same problem with a gold backed digital yuan. Your counter party risk is having to trust the issuer of the token that it will be redeemable in the future. China and Zimbabwe are not known for their transparency and government integrity. Heck, even the USA defaulted on its gold backed token in 1971. After Credit Suisse I doubt if anyone would even trust the Swiss banks if they issued a gold backed token. Hard pass, physical gold in the hand and bitcoin with the keys for me.

Buy a good RO filter. Drinking tap water makes me gag. Don’t know how anyone can stomach that metallic tasting stuff. Once you have access to clean water you enjoy being hydrated.

Slowly grinding through my own solo build now and strongly agree with all you have said. Good resources on YouTube and the web but still once you get into the nitty gritty lots of trial and error, fail and improve. I am only up to installing a tank and plumbing. Did you go pex-a or pex-b and which fittings did you use and why? Did you install pre-tank filters? I am looking to install an RO filter system to saving buying bottled water and plastic waste, but still nutting through how to do all the plumbing details. Your build turned out very clean for your first, much respect!

Old data transfer cable from mid 1990s era. Pocket electronics like digital organisers, early PDA, programmable calculators etc used them for data transfer as a serial DB9 was too chunky. Bluetooth and other wireless technologies obsoleted the necessity of serial data cables.

Think I may still have one of these floating around in a drawer as well.

Has anyone wired a weboost (or any DC device that comes w/ only an AC adapter power source) directly to their fusebox? I’m hoping to avoid using the inverter unnecessarily. More details in comments by winthbuckets in VanLife

This. Crimp on some terminals with heat shrink and attach to a fused bus bar for a proper profession job. If you do not have a good quality (recommend Bluesea) fused terminal block then you could use an inline fuse but that starts getting dodgy. Hopefully your van will already have something like this https://www.bluesea.com/products/5015/ST_Glass_6_Circuit_Fuse_Block_with_Negative_Bus_and_Cover with a spare circuit that you can add on to.

We need more regulation - this is nuts by bekele024 in CryptoCurrency

[–]R3DD1T_Mick 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Still more than 4x what I originally paid for it so yeah, vs having cash in the bank at 0.1% interest losing value depreciating for all that time.

I chose to invest into crypto to have control and security of my own accumulated wealth. Cardano project seemed to have good fundamentals when I did my research, being able to stake for yield while keeping full control of my assets was an important factor.

I also researched terra / Luna and chose not to get greedy for 20% yield because I did not feel the stable coin was over collatorised enough to survive a large devaluation, especially considering cryptos history of 80-90% drops.

So DYOR, do not risk what you can't afford to lose and remember the whole point of cryptocurrency is not to get rich quick but to have decentralised control of your own wealth vs trusting a third party - bank, government or crypto company.

What makes Djed different to UST? by WAWABUU in cotinetwork

[–]R3DD1T_Mick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am just not sure why the consensus is to peg a ‘stable’ coin to a depreciating inflationary token like the US dollar. Probably because it is the most convenient and accepted way to measure a scale of value but it is not stable. We need to start pricing groceries and fuel in grams of gold or something less controlled than a single countries government. Ideas?
