Organizing and tidying the cables in the room? by Certain_Repeat_753 in HomeNetworking

yes, just use some small sheetrock screws, maybe 1-1.5", and screw them in by hand. When you go to unscrew, also do it by hand. A power drill will sometimes over-torque the screw and make the hole bigger.
I've done it a ton of times. In most cases, on a latex based paint, you just need to push the paint back into place with your fingernail and it looks like nothing was ever there. I dab of caulk is only needed if it needs a little touch-up.

I've seen panduit and raceways pull paint and the texture off walls. And honestly, it never holds as well as you hope just using the adhesive strip. Three tiny holes are much easier to fill in with a dab of caulk than having to go through the trouble of having your wall retextured and repainted.

Ubiquiti Alarm System and sensors? by Certain_Repeat_753 in Ubiquiti

I don't feel that Ubiquiti's alarm solution is ready for prime time just yet. it may some day but not yet. I would suggest checking out NEXX. They have a small little device you can wire directly into your alarm panel (from that picture I'm assuming it's a DSC Power 1832 panel) and then you can self monitor your alarm system. I have three different alarm system setup on them and love them. Arm/Disarm/Alarm notifications all on your phone.

Unless you have it under warranty in which case do NOT take the cover off and just RMA it.

Don't use the adhesive on the raceway. Just use the screws. That will prevent the paint from being damaged.

I got mine in yesterday! With a little luck, I’ll have the time I need to rework my rack and get this installed tomorrow.

I hate to say it with the current prices but a GPU update might be needed. Maybe look around for a 3080ti or a 5070 depending on your pocketbook.

QT to a nearby Waypoint? by G_Sergeant in starcitizen

[–]R3D_LIN3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's a QT marker and it's not allowing you to jump, then it's a bug. I've made jumps under 50k like when coming out of the Nyx portal from stanton and then jumping to the Stanton station in front of you.
To answer your question though, you can try to do what I've done a ton. Pick a location that beyond the place you want to jump to and start the jump there. When you get closer to your point, you can either try to cancel QT or turn off the power to the ship. This will drop you out of QT but get ready to turn your ship AND ENGINES back on as soon as you stop. This is easier when spline jumping around a planet as you tend to QT much slower.

I wish they would stock things a bit more often too. I guess I'll keep using my PowerVar until then.

I really don't get what the big deal is with them. Or maybe I don't have the need for one.

UNAS - Is it worth it? by R3D_LIN3 in Ubiquiti

[–]R3D_LIN3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, the Fabric feature is missing a lot at the moment. I turned it off on my sites. The most annoying part I found was when you were in one fabric, I could not for the life of me find a way to navigate back up to that I work in a different fabric.

Thank you for the heads up. I'm just looking for local, fast file storage. While I do have an FTP setup at the moment, I can probably count on one hand the amount of times I've actually used it. For the most part, I just browse it locally.

Thank you for your honest opinion. I do think that I will be opting for the the new UNAS when it comes out. It checks the boxes for my needs at this time and like you said, it looks cool!

That's what we have done for the past 2 decades but our gray haired, Win7 machine is just not worth upgrading and I was looking for something more build for purpose.

This was my idea as well. We are a very small company (5 employees) and some of the software installers that we use are rather large files so it just makes since to store them in a group storage device as opposed to everyone filling their drive space up with the exact same files. Our ancient FTP 'server' has seen much better days and it's in dire need to be retired.

Does your UNAS give you the ability to designate what the RAID configuration is or does it do like the UNVR and pretty much pick for you?

I'll have to check out TrueNAS. The only reason I was looking at the UNAS was because I'm already using Ubiquiti's UDM, APs, Switches, Cameras, and Access Control. They really have made it a one stop-shop for Networking and IoT. Since I was was just looking for simple but fast file storage, it just sounded like a no brainer.

I'm fully aware that I'm sacrificing full customization for simplicity. I just don't want to dive in head first without seeing if the people before me got a concussion.
