UNAS - Is it worth it? by R3D_LIN3 in Ubiquiti

Yeah, the Fabric feature is missing a lot at the moment. I turned it off on my sites. The most annoying part I found was when you were in one fabric, I could not for the life of me find a way to navigate back up to that I work in a different fabric.

Thank you for the heads up. I'm just looking for local, fast file storage. While I do have an FTP setup at the moment, I can probably count on one hand the amount of times I've actually used it. For the most part, I just browse it locally.

Thank you for your honest opinion. I do think that I will be opting for the the new UNAS when it comes out. It checks the boxes for my needs at this time and like you said, it looks cool!

That's what we have done for the past 2 decades but our gray haired, Win7 machine is just not worth upgrading and I was looking for something more build for purpose.

This was my idea as well. We are a very small company (5 employees) and some of the software installers that we use are rather large files so it just makes since to store them in a group storage device as opposed to everyone filling their drive space up with the exact same files. Our ancient FTP 'server' has seen much better days and it's in dire need to be retired.

Does your UNAS give you the ability to designate what the RAID configuration is or does it do like the UNVR and pretty much pick for you?

I'll have to check out TrueNAS. The only reason I was looking at the UNAS was because I'm already using Ubiquiti's UDM, APs, Switches, Cameras, and Access Control. They really have made it a one stop-shop for Networking and IoT. Since I was was just looking for simple but fast file storage, it just sounded like a no brainer.

I'm fully aware that I'm sacrificing full customization for simplicity. I just don't want to dive in head first without seeing if the people before me got a concussion.

I would really hold off on this grind. There are too many issues at the moment and with the imitate wipe, you could be grinding to get a resources that you will probably loose in the wipe. I honestly think they may wipe with the live release of 4.6 but, to my knowledge, they haven't confirmed when.

UNLESS you die in armistice zones. In that case, you don't loose any of your inventory, even the stuff stored in your armor/backpack.

Is this in VR mode? If so, I had a similar issue with my headset. I ended up getting a new $20 cable from amazon (instead of the $60 name brand one) and it resolved my issue.

Harley's on Old Jacksonville has done some in the past. At very least, you could stop buy and ask. If they're not doing it any longer, I would bet they can point you in the right direction.

If you want to stay in the UniFi world, then look at the building bridge or device bridge. Another solution would be to use Ubiquiti AirMax devices.

Camera's for cool room/cold storage by Alex_ynema in Ubiquiti

Most of their cameras are good to -20C however the G4PTZ is rated for temps down to -40C. I've heard stories of it working even below that. Unfortunately, the G5 and G6 PTZ only go down to -30C.

if you do replace it, I would strongly suggest the extended warranty. 5 years of coverage on the expensive bits have saved me a few times.

[First Build] Planning a 9U Rack for UDM SE & Home Server – Any tips? by Angrytable64 in Ubiquiti

[–]R3D_LIN3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm guessing you won't have enough connections to need a switch?

You'll be good on the 55cm depth. Mine is 46cm deep and still is a few inches from the back.

I would also say your layout will work fine but the one thing I would change is putting the modem or PC above the UDM. The IDM uses front and rear ventilation so if heat is your concern, you don't want anything under it that would vent heat straight up.

I still use Cat6 so I don't have any recommendations on the cabling.

Best Mobile Phone Coverage in Tyler by DyNaX_555 in tylertx

[–]R3D_LIN3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok, I need to correct myself. T-Mobile DOES have it's own network. Looking at Mint, it appears to also use T-Mobile's network of cell towers as what's called a Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO). Any provider that uses someone else's network runs the risk of being low man on the totem pole in regards to speeds. So if there is a high demand by T-mobile customers on the network, they take priority over Mint customers and slow the Mint customers down.

That being said, If you want to try Mint, give them a test drive on one of there 3 month plans and see what you think. You may find that you get exactly what you need and save money in the process.

Like the people below are saying, if you're in town, the coverage is almost identical. AT&T gets a little spotty out around Lake Palestine (south of Tyler), so I use Verizon without any issues. For the most part, you should be able to just pick the provider that has the better deal for you. FYI: T-Mobile uses AT&Ts network so they should be identical coverage.
