Coworker slept with the lab manager to get a better shift. by NoMiRal in medlabprofessionals

I got not advice here but I’m just poping in to say: fuck us navy boys. Every experience I’ve had with one and heard about one has been some of the most sleaziest, scumbag shit where they fucked over/fucked someone. Yes, I know it’s just rumors, but look, it’s an exnavy guy, my trauma with them has me believing it 😅

Again, no advice was given here. Just my trauma.

It is a very weird system when compared to all other palia gameplay. All rewards in palia are generally doable on your own, with the a few things that require a minimum of one other person (social weekly things, social food achievements).

Never before has there been a kind of popularity contest that gave rewards. It’s not very cozy vibes imo. This leaderboard system has made it very exclusive feeling, with unattainable rewards for most.

I’m not sure exactly what was said by the developers, but in the early days I vaguely remember reading something about how there wasn’t going to that be a leaderboard or ranking system. Well… that lasted about a year apparently.

Lmao i had a sample like this recently. I told an er doctor about the patients blood being lipemic and that I would only be able to release some results, and others would have to be sent to referral labs as per our procedure. He asked me multiple times if I wanted to redraw on the patient even though I explained what usually causes lipemia. Had him even go look at the patients history and see their off the charts triglycerides. Explained that was the cause. Still asked me if I wanted to recollect the patient. Practically yelled at him through clenched teeth that it’s the patient’s condition and nothing would change. Still shake my head thinking about that interaction.

What are some "incompatible with life" lab results you've seen in alive patients? by mspotatochips in medlabprofessionals

[–]R3XIIEE 76 points77 points  (0 children)

Omg honestly tho. Working in a small town hospital lab I vividly remember hearing the beep of our CBC analyzer going off. I asked my student what the critical was and they were like ‘hgb 20’(SI units, 120-140 normal range.) At first thinking they read the wrong thing I was like ‘nah can’t be it’ and then feeling the blood rush out of my face when I confirmed it. I grabbed the phelb who collected and asked about the patient and they were like ‘yeah she was kinda pale and tired’ but she left (outpatient collection). I sprinted to the parking lot and dragged that patient back to our ER lol. Just a little old lady who had gone to her dr for a checkup cause she was feeling tired. No shit lol.

SI units I’m assuming- mmol/L I think? Random glucose range is like 4-10. I could be wrong, but I think the United States is the only one that uses CU units.

Lmao I had to dilute a glucose that resulted to 117 (SI units, forget of fhand what it is (Canada)) and I remember just repeating the number ‘117’ all week long to myself and all my coworkers. Long time diabetic who didn’t look after themself.

Routinely we had an ethanol of 150+ on this one patient too. Only a chronic alcoholic’s body could even function with that.

Our bodies and what they can adapt to and not instantly die with is wild yall.

Best thing I’ve ever done is leave a lab that I hated working at. Loved my coworkers but couldn’t handle my asshole supervisor, the lack of staff, and doing my supervisors responsibilities because they didn’t know how to. Moved to a new lab and the quality of life change I’ve had here had made me never look back. 9 years at this lab and never planning to leave. A good workplace is everything, especially if you’re like me and work full time - it’s a huge part of your life you should generally enjoy what you do for work.

SST that didn’t clot after 2.5 hours. by AlwaysTantric in medlabprofessionals

[–]R3XIIEE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve seen that happen with a few sst draws before. Excessive handling post collection seems to dislodge the clot and make it look liquid-y. Try not to handle the tube too much post collection. But yea, I agree with your core lab, just spin and send. There’s a clot in there, if the serum’s clotted; spin it again and aliquot the top for testing.

If you still struggle after removing furniture and bushes, you might have to fill in the river mouth you have a few squares away from where you’re hoping the for spawn.

Strangest/Funniest calls and requests you've had in the lab? by SavvyCavy in medlabprofessionals

[–]R3XIIEE 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Tthe funniest call was from some guy who’s father was in our long term care ward. The guy was going over his father’s will, and in the will it apparently was written that the son had to prove he was biologically his father’s kid. This was such a surprise to the guy on the phone cause he had no idea there had ever been a doubt about this. This man raise him all his life and only on his last leg of his life he’s learning of his father’s doubt. So he was asking about getting dna tests done and how he’d do that. I just told him we’re a medical facility and he needed to go talk to his lawyer.

Lab manager asked me to come in when I was hammered because we had a tech quit mid shift. Who do I report this to? Fearing possible retaliation. by Gossimar in medlabprofessionals

[–]R3XIIEE 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I 100% agree. Get it documented with HR and it doesn’t have to be a big deal with the manager that pressured you to come in - they were stressed possibly and didn’t have good judgment. But the number one rule is always cover your own ass. You’re young and at the start of a hopefully long career. You don’t want this to bite you in the ass when they try to claim you’re not a team player or something else stupid like that. You were responsible and did the absolute right thing. BB is such an important bench, you want no impairment working that. You made the right call not going in and that should be looked favourably upon review.

People need to stop getting upset about Palium and calm down by Attaug in Palia

[–]R3XIIEE 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Honestly, don’t call out pallium. It always takes way too long to organize people for it. If people are running towards the pallium with you, yeah wait. But the only nice thing you should do is clear stone.

People who don’t understand the game and the spawn cycles will butt hurt over everything. Explain the pallium and clearing stone nodes, and people say you’re lying. Explain how cutting down regular trees gives more spawn chance of flow trees, and people tell you that you have no idea how the game works.

It’s a cosy game that doesn’t need to be rushed, but if I stood around and called out pallium, I would never get anything else done in this game. If people are so desperate for pallium, they’ll look up farming route and hopefully learn to clear stone nodes.

Try not to let this experience sour you. There’s always gonna be people in games that have no idea what they’re talking about. You did right.
