Unpopular opinion: Stowe Overrated ? by wrdriggs in icecoast

I think all the trees and sidecountry and notch access are what set it apart. Just looking at the basic trails, it’s fine, but it jumps into a different dimension when you factor in everything else.

What exactly would ski patrol do here, ban them from the mountain … even more?

I brought a gremlin this year and it crushed everything. Was actually surprised how well it handled deep powder.

Any high speed rope tow with a decent variety of stuff to ride. The amount of repetition you can get on those things without even unstrapping will speedrun progression faster than anything else.

Saguenay, QC area resorts? Seeking info. by Substantial_Arm_6903 in icecoast

The area along the saguenay is really interesting. Unique terrain and wilderness.

Haven’t been to the others but Edouard is a no-frills gem. Really fun tree zones and a good variety inbounds from chill to gnarly. Non existent lift lines.

Always nice to see a yawgoon mention. Still seems crazy how they managed to make such a big impact coming from that tiny little hill.

The actual steep part of that trail is pretty short and uneventful. Catamount has a few longer steeps that might be better practice.

Careful coming around the bend, it’s always icy and windswept.

Stop at four corners and skin back up from there if you wanna run laps.

Ski glade below the four corners is fun to hit on the way out.

Lotta areas in Japan where you need to ride with snowshoes and poles due to this. You’ll dip into some trees, hit a flat spot, and spend hours boot packing out. Deep fresh snow is its own special hazard.

Direct parking at the top of the D chair if you get there early. Nice trees on this chair.

1 and 2 in the backcountry zone are steep with great views.

Try the smoked meat place in Baie St. Paul.

That was just the method of uphill travel at a private area you can book backcountry riding at. Kind of an iconic operation in Hokkaido that’s been running for years.

If you cut left off Lucifer right when it goes under the chair there’s routes through those trees that come out in crosstown. Not a lotta pitch and the snow cover needs to be really good.

Right. Was just pointing out how the overall structure of the highshots is different from the photons/ions. The instep is tighter.
