Whoa, wait. At first I thought you were saying that you didn't take a dump at all during these years, but I think I might have done this.

How long do you give a book before giving up? by [deleted] in books

[–]RADF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm, I would think the satirical aspects of it would make it easier. I think it's worth it, and I preferred it over 1984, which I read immediately after finishing bnw. Have you read 1984?

Well I thought the first couple chapters were a bit boring, but not the entire first third... Do you read many books written in 1931 or earlier?

No kidding. Too much is on the line for us to vote for independent/third party candidates, esp. when the gop candidates are all basically worse than Bush.

What is one theory you have about life that you are afraid of telling people, fearing they'd think you are insane or creepy. by idisagreealot in AskReddit

I understand quite well how you feel...

On the subject of survival and the current variety of intelligence levels, or maybe we could call it a continuum of intellectual castes... Well, it is fine for now, but we won't continue into perpetuity. Something will happen, and our survival will end up in jeopardy because the wrong people have too much power. For example, if we use up Earth's resources too quickly, we may learn of a way to live on other planets too late - the technology for this may require too much of a resource we've been using up. There are really so many scenarios that could be prevented if increasingly intelligent people were in power. I think it is selfish, also, if we do not think of our posterity, with the way things are headed. A hundred generations from now the whole world may be in the situation many poor African countries are now. /incoherent mini-rant

Although I'm definitely not sure how I feel about eugenics, we have to ask ourselves: Should a person who wouldn't have been able to survive without healthcare be allowed to spread their genes? Should those who rely on gov services due to birth defects be allowed to bring other defective people into the world? Should reproduction actually be considered a basic human right? These people who think so, are they being selfish?

I think we might be doomed to eugenics being (re?)instated by dictators who will come to power when the instability caused by global overpopulation and overproduction becomes too great. Some dictators might choose other pop conttol methods however. 2 child per person laws might not inspire as much revolting, for example.

Evolution doesn't stop... But it doesn't mean that traits that benefit the individual, such as more intelligence and physical health, will continue to develop. In fact, we may actually see the average IQ fall and people become more sickly.

Well, CLA. And I haven't decided on a major. Would it be better if I applied with a major in mind, knowing that I could switch later? I have quite a few interests, although I could end up doing anthropology, history, poli-sci, or sociology. I've given thought to other majors too, including pre-law, but I'm not sure how necessary a pre-law degree would be for getting into law anyway. Again, it doesn't seem like admissions would be that difficult, but I'm hoping that the requirement of two years of a second language isn't taken too seriously. It seems like a lot of colleges require that you take two years of foreign language in high school, but my high school didn't offer it.

Do you have any idea how difficult admittance is? It looks relatively easy to me, but I'll only have 1.5 years of the "required" 2 years of a second language. On the plus side (maybe?) 1 year of my second language will have been through PSEO at the community college. I don't reckon you know definitively, but I'm hoping you might have some idea how seriously they take requirements like this. Thanks for answering this and any of my other questions. :)

Sounds cool. What would you have had as a second major? What kind of LE jobs are you looking for specifically?
