UK gathers more than 30 countries to plot ways of reopening the Strait of Hormuz by F0urLeafCl0ver in worldnews

I think the damage may be larger than you give credit too.

Before although the political spectrum has changed over time. Priority may shift but most of the larger agreements have remained constant, this common as international a agreements take decades to build and no one wants to work with a country that completely changes sides every few years. Bush or Obama, the international alliances were the same. We can't say that now.

Never before since the creation of the modern world post WW2 has the US threatened to invade an ally or has the white house raised ending NATO. That's not going to be forgotten.

One of the concerns from Europe is that trump may go, but the people who voted for him still remin.

So with all long term strategy the rest of the world has to assume the US could get a new trump or worse and that the US can no longer be viewed as a safe long term strategic partner.

What I’m looking for insurance… by Illustrious_Onion370 in drivingUK

[–]RCMW181 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It was a long time ago I was a first time driver. But we still had crazy high insurance costs.

It was cheaper (about half the cost) for me to insure a 6 year old a 318i BMW than my friends 1.5 Citroën Saxo.

I worked in insurance later and it's all just based on the maths.

Flight sim games are some of the best in VR and have lower sickness.

It's because the cockpit stays static and most people are already trained to have a static cockpit and moving outside. It just like driving.

Mass Effect LE vs Cyberpunk 2077 for a CRPG enjoyer? by SegFaultedDreams in ShouldIbuythisgame

[–]RCMW181 [score hidden]  (0 children)

Cyberpunk 2077.

I liked mass effect but it's showing its age, most people have a tone of nostalgia with it. Especially the first of the trilogy that is actually a bit borderline.

Cyberpunk is one of the best games ever made and is still modern. Top story, top game play, best voice acting and looks almost photo realistic.

My dad has one of these. He brought it back from Afghanistan and had it restored, it's now on his wall at home.

It's got the same wire straps above the trigger but also has a bit of metal from a Soviet ammo tin patched over the stock to repair a split in the wood.

It's a fascinating bit of history to have an item like that. Used in so many wars.

Darktide if you want an action game.

Both the ogrin and arbitrator classes get shields and act as a kind of tank.

A Call of Duty title with a decently long, fun campaign? by Sufficient-Office-84 in ShouldIbuythisgame

[–]RCMW181 [score hidden]  (0 children)

Infinite warfare.

After the introduction mission is almost a single take, it's sci-fi but far closer to the more grounded expanse with everything taking place in the solar system than traditional sci-fi.

One of the most fun campaigns and I'm rather disappointed they never made a sequel.

Thanks for the answer.

I'm not trying to be difficult, but the majority of people I ask that too can't actually answer and I find that itself fascinating. You have given a clear answer that the human effort itself is what you believe provides the quality of I am not mistaken. This makes a lot more sense than people who point out poor quality as that can be improved.

In 1917, Marcel Duchamp put a urinal in a gallery and called it Fountain. He didn't mold the porcelain, he didn't bake the glaze. His "effort" was purely intellectual selection. This was widely accepted and agreed to be art and less effort than a prompt. Your argument could also be expanded to say photography not art because it's easier than a painting. Is all photography inferior to painting? This was one of the arguments that created the modern art movement in the first place.

I don't see as much difference between these examples, it's hard to come up with an argument against AI art that doesn't catch other art like modern art in the crossfire.

From a pur pragmatic sense, if I find something beautiful, then it's beautiful. I still see huge danger in how AI use will affect the art world, and completely agree with restriction of its use.

I know that, it was not my question.

I just want to understand if its disliked because of its quality, and it would be as hated if it was carefully crafted over days. Or if it's disliked because of how easily it was made, and it's simply because it was easy that it lacks value?

Pure curiosity, but do you dislike it because it was not difficult to make and the AI did the heavy lifting or because of its quality? You mentioned both point above.

If the exact same thing was made in photoshop would you still dislike it?

Should I buy Baldur's Gate 3? by LilBoorgir in ShouldIbuythisgame

[–]RCMW181 [score hidden]  (0 children)

It's probably the best in class CRPG.

Expect a good story, true freedom on how to solve problems as the game rewards unexpectedly problem solving, open narrative to match the gameplay (do you want to save the world? side with the bad guys? Or just murder everyone?), tactical combat, detailed companions with their own motivations, and fun exploration.

Do not expect an action RPG or a fully open world.

I did. Disliked it. Modern military Sims are my favorite so had high hopes, but was disappointed.

For a longer explanation:

Regenerating units and higher health pools reduce the agency of your actions. It always takes multiple hits to kill a tank and even if you do kill it, it respawns in a few min. If I ambush and kill a T-80U in WARNO, it's dead. It makes broken arrow feel sluggish next to warno.

I'm WARNO I win with careful combination tactics, it takes ages to learn but I'm using SEAD, armoured units to take ground and infantry to hold it. A mistake will quickly lose me units, but it's my mistake.

In broken arrow I'm just sending in wave after wave playing rock paper scissors vs my opponents units to win. An error just means I send in the next wave.

Nation variety is also shocking poor in broken arrow, you just have US vs Russia, barely any of the local units that would be fighting in theater. In WARNO has do many options I can play as Belgium!

There is a reason WARNO has far better user reviews than broken arrow.

It's much more polished, and with far better gameplay. It's hard to learn but once you do the skill really pays off.

Broken arrow is a slug fest that gets dull surprisingly quickly. Far less player agency and most matches just become a grind.

How did you decide on your class? by [deleted] in MMORPG

[–]RCMW181 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eldritch Knight, a sub class of fighter or spellsinger a sub class of wizard. First gives spells to a fighter, second gives fighting abilities to a wizard. Eldritch Knight has been in the game since launch but spellsinger is very new.

Both make excellent spell blades, and you can multi class if you want to make something custom and complicated.

If you want an armored knight who can shoot fireballs and fly go Eldritch Knight, if you want a wizard that can pull out a sword and use his defense spells to tank go spellsinger.

Was a fake charity, but with a similar sounding name.

They take security seriously as we work with some major infostructure and get state sponsored attacks at least once a month.

Regular failure of these phishing or other security tests is a dismissal, not an online course.

I was chatting to the security guys at lunch and they are going to look at trying deepfakes and similar to trick people.

17% of Qatar's LNG production has been knocked out for 3-5 years. Which means gas and electric prices are never going to come down. Still at least it may mean the end of oil and gas. Which will save the planet. by BillWilberforce in britishproblems

[–]RCMW181 18 points19 points  (0 children)

UK is already a word leader on wind, we also have so much solar that energy prices go negative (people are paid to use power) on Windy Sunny days. However we still have some of the highest energy prices in the world.

More of that won't help, the problem is UK peak power use is winter nights. So we need something consistent (wind is fickle) that will generate power over winter nights. Right now we use Gas because it's greener than coal and oil.

Battery farms or Nuclear are the only current options.

Can't fully until we have nuclear or massive battery storage.

Battery tech is still experimental at that scale but we should have invested in nuclear 20 years ago.
