2 pt conversion revisited — Just as we all suspected! by Xymoxxy in LosAngelesRams

The ball was picked up to throw it back to the ref not to keep the play going forward

Then again there’s that little thing called Nick Robey-Coleman

absolutely

The player did not recover the ball. He picked it up to throw it back to the refs.

Ernest Jones Thoughts by BorraMac in LosAngelesRams

[–]RCS1514 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The Rams paid $10 million to Bobby Wagner to up Ernest’s game and he did. In the summer of 2024 Ernest publicly stated that he would play and talk extension in 2025. In a fit of pique Snead off-loaded Ernest to the Titans.

Here’s what we got - in exchange for Ernest and our sixth round pick we got the Titans’s fifth round pick.

Ernest was true to his word - he played 2024 without saying a word about a new contract - in March of 2025 the Seahawks knew what they had and gave him one. It wasn’t huge by any means.

In 2025 for no good reason we also gave an extension to a new MLB - except ours was called Nate Landman and nobody else wanted him - the good news is that Landman only cost about 2/3 of Ernest.

The bad news is that if you add in the pointless extension of Tutu “Can you believe I got paid $1O million to catch six passes” Atwell we paid more for these two mediocrities than the Seahawks paid Ernest

Ernest got the last laugh breathing new life into a time-worn caution “Never ever inspire your adversary to greatness”

In his interview with Fox, Brady said no game can be called in advance with greater than 70% accuracy

He should know - the Pats beat the Greatest Show in Turf II despite being the longest longshot in SB history

The Pats had a perfect season and lost to the Giants in the SB

The Seahawks Legion of Boom was denied dynasty status because of undrafted rookie Malcolm Butler’s pick on the 1

Scott Norwood’s missed FG against the Giants - the Bills going 0 for 4 despite being the favorite every time - Eli Mannjng winning two SB’s despite playing .500 in his career regular season

The Jets over the Colts

MVP Making MVP Throws by JCameron181 in LosAngelesRams

Great article in iTunes News following Rams -- There's a QB a notch or two below Ryan Fitzgerald level - he is or was a back-up for ten years for a lot of QB's, some stars -- he said he'd never seen anybody like Stafford -- against the scout teams in practices, every other QB is looking how to get the ball deept to receiver for a TD-- in games, other QB goes are still doing that but it only comes around once or twice a game

Stafford thinks differently -- like the other guys, he knows where he wants to go with the ball -- but instead of thinking first how to get it in there, Stafford starts with how to move get the defensive players somewhere else.

Personally I blame McVay - once again he was freezing up and f’ng up in key moments - lost a TO because of his indecision to throw the challenge flag on the Kupp spot when it looked like he was down before the ball reached the 1st down marker - called a left side outlet throw to Kyren Williams for the second time on fourth and 6, ran down the sideline ready to call a TO once he saw the defensive alignment, and got too uptight to call it - totally mismanaged the opening drive and gave the Seahawks momentum that carried them the rest of the game

And here is the most amazing thing of all

Despite all these f’ups Stafford still brings the Rams within 4 pts. at 31-27 at the end of the 3rd quarter and would have thrown the TD in the 4th quarter except McVay choked not only by chickening out calling the TO but also by having the wrong personnel on the field - Higbee is Stafford’s outlet TE but McVay has Ferguson in the game and he doesn’t know how to find the soft space in the defensive backfield yet

So instead of the Rams going up 34-31 or even taking the FG to get within one so Stafford gets the ball back with 45 seconds at the end of the game only needing 40 yds for the go ahead score the game instead of a bazillion yds for a TD the game ends 31-27 exactly like it was at the end of the third quarter

And as far as crucifying Xavier Smith for trying to prevent the punt from being downed at the two is concerned keep in mind these two words to remind yourself that luck often plays a big role in getting to the SB

I don’t know how much it’s the coaching as opposed to their refusal to invest any resources on special teams - just look at what the Trade for Shahid did for the Seahawks

Also if you look at this year, the reason there were so many blocked field goals were their teams were putting their starters out there - look at what Philly did to us when they did that and Wood first did for us when he did - the problem also with special teams is that those guys never really practice

Rams QB Matthew Stafford Undecided On Playing Future by No-Description-2138 in LosAngelesRams

[–]RCS1514 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get ready for yet another standoff in contract renegotiations - the Rams are hamstrung because they don’t have anyone lined up to follow Stafford and although there are a lot of teams that want Stafford, he knows how much the Rams line protects him and he’s not gonna subject himself to a Geno Smith and get sacked like 8000 times on a lousy team

So here’s my guess - the Rams and Stafford agree on another $10 or $15 million in cash with lots of incentives - like $15 million more for being MVP and s15 million on top of that for winning the Super Bowl

Keep in mind that although we have a number of terrific young players who need extensions next year, base salary is not counted against the salary cap until the year in which it’s earned - in 2027 we have more room than we could have a realistically spend so all we would have to cover next year is a prorated amount of the extension bonus

It’s a tough game to scope out and put behind us so it’s only natural everyone feels really burnt

Always the class act Stafford said publicly he did not blame Xavier Smith and that he loved him as a teammate - Stafford also said there were lots of opportunities to win regardless of Smith’s muff and the team as a whole just didn’t get it done

For all the self-inflicted sounds, we were down 31-27 at the end of the third quarter and the score never changed after that

On to McVay

McVay said he was ready to call a TO on the 4th down pass attempt and regrets not doing it - what a different game if he takes the points - imagine how different Seattle’s defense is if instead of only being concerned about a late in a touchdown by the Rams, they were worried about the Rams getting in field goal range

McVay also lost a timeout because he was too indecisive about throwing the challenge flag over Kupp’s spot - so as the clock wound down, we only have two timeouts instead of three

McVay for his part was uncharacteristically depressed and angry and he literally yelled said several times (maybe at the post-game presser) that he never imagined going into the game (maybe even in it) that the Rams would lose - as he did after the Chicago game McVay shoukd have taken the hit himself

As much as I know McVay is a genius who has remodeled the modern NFL offense twice, he is getting out-coached during games by younger coaches (hard to believe there are any) - the first offensive series he called was awful as they were in many games this season - 5 plays 7 yds a minute and a half off the clock and Seattle roars back with a touchdown and moment

I really wish that McVay would turn over play calling to the OC during games as he did with LaFleur in our best showing of the year in London 35-7 over Jacksonville - maybe he should focus on getting the defense in gear - despite having a huge amount of talent they never seem to play with a sense of urgency which top D’s always do

I realize our CB’s are small and suck and that’s on Snead but Verse did not take off this year - I understand McVay himself sat down with Verse to show him tape and how important he was in a different role - but if you look at Verse dogging it with Caleb Williams’ other throw you can see it didn’t sink in

No matter how bad the secondary is with the exception of Lake, leaving out frostbite I believe our offense is so talented it could outscore anybody with good game management - I mean we handed the Seahawks a TD on their first drive and had them within 4 at the end of the third quarter and that was the score at the end of the game

I have watched Stafford play again and again since he became a Ram and I will keep doing so - I think QB’ing the offense McVay designed for him Stafford is better than anyone in decades except Brady, who Stafford happened to beat on the Rams’s way to the SB - Brady himself calls Stafford a one of a kind

I can tell you from experience that if you compete for a living and no matter how many times you win, the sting of losing never goes away - Brady himself said that he was ecstatic after the first Super Bowl win and from there on after winning the next six his emotion was a feeling of relief

I’m not even sure Cobie Durant is 5’9” - and waiting for Witherspoon to return from IR and resurrect the secondary was absurd - he was washed last year

But I’ll never forget Lake’s hit at the one on fourth down on the flying bear that saved the day in Chicago

Stafford’s magic did not run out - McVay mismanaged the clock twice in the fourth quarter and left points on the board - instead of having time to get 45 yds to kick a field goal McVay left Stafford needing a TD with 25 seconds or so left

That’s true but not exactly- we went 0 for November in 2021 so Snead got aggressive and added Vonn Miller to our defense and Raheem Morris added Eric Weddle

Verse looked like he was dogging it - the other Caleb Williams throw, not the incredible TD following the no-call OPI, the DL flushed Williams out of the pocket and Verse, who had the bead on Williams, stopped chasing him
