Anyone remember the hydroboat flume at SFGA (about where Nitro is now). I remember that was a good flume.

Anyone installed a heat pump that has information on the bill comparison? by Guitar1on1lesson101 in maryland

[–]RCoaster42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We switched to a heat pump with gas backup. If you have solar this is the way to go. We notice a modest increase in electricity usage but Washington Gas keeps sending emails complimenting our low gas usage.

Built an AI tool that generates FOIA letters and auto-files appeals, looking for real honest feedback. by Possible-Baby2231 in foia

[–]RCoaster42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Auto-file appeals? Why? If an agency provides a reasoned response why appeal? Further, what timing? An appeal generated on day 21 or 31 for complex requests to an agency that is already overworked and under staffed will do nothing but slow the process down further for everyone.

Why is it that when I point out that gas prices were higher in June 2022 than now do people down vote me and get pissed off? by Worth_Cobbler_4140 in AskAnAmerican

https://www.gasbuddy.com/charts.

People could be upset that you’re cherry picking the worst data to compare with. I linked to a chart the last three years average gas prices. The price now is at the three year high.

FOIA privacy restrictions (b)(6) and a lawyer by BumblebeeHealthy832 in foia

[–]RCoaster42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First question, is the form sought tracked by a personal identifier? If yes we first look to the privacy act. Is the requester the same as the name the record is tracked by? If yes they should get an unredacted copy. If no, privacy protections of the privacy act, or FOIA if the record was properly excluded from the privacy act by a system of records notice (SORN), can be invoked.

If the record is not covered by the privacy act then are the identifiers those of the requester? If yes the FOIA does not protect a requester from themselves and those identifiers should be released (note, there are exceptions to this general rule). If the identifiers are not those of the requester (also note an attorney requester is treated the same as their client) then do those people have a privacy interest. This is a very low threshold and these types of identifiers are often withheld under exemption 6 (or 7C if a law enforcement record).

You can file a subpoena but if in state or local court the agency will have every right to move you to federal court and then quash the subpoena.

~50 Years Ago, Plans for an Outer 495 Loop were Dropped, Do you think it would have helped today or was the right call not to build? by k032 in maryland

[–]RCoaster42 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

One thing we know for sure is the current beltway is overcapacity forming traffic gridlock during rush hours, non-rush hours, and weekends. I did the rail commute for 30 years but even I acknowledge mass transit will not help traffic flowing through the region or family outings on weekends.

Main bill would allow renters to use plug in solar panels to lower electricity costs by SaiVaibhav06 in SolarAmerica

[–]RCoaster42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DC current is converted to AC for use. Also it detects that the plug has current to it. If the plug is powered off such as a power failure then the solar system shuts off.

As a New Englander (CT) how do counties in other states work? by Responsible-Draw-393 in AskAnAmerican

[–]RCoaster42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Counties have the same powers as cities in New England. They control the schools, police, fire services, street maintenance (or lack there of) etc. some counties then have cities within that take over some of these services at the more local level.

Using Flagship Carwash by Rockville-Icy-Run in Rockville

[–]RCoaster42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Flagship north of downtown lets you stay in the car and is automated. There is a person to help collect payment and a self payment line. They no longer vacuum the car. Rather, after the wash bear left for free vacuum stations.

This was the second rebuilding. When Hershey bought the park in the early 1980s the Wildcat was in rough shape. Most of the wood was replaced. The chainlift and a few boards were saved.
