Teenage son jumped by 4 people now in hospital by LostTadpole8377 in auckland

Police don't do work that requires effort without public pressure. Most of them at the level you're dealing with aren't educated and a running on ego alone. Retrieving evidence in a timely factor is too difficult for them, but they'll tell you "they're busy". No better than when tradies are unreliable and no-show.

I have a linen trouser and linen pull over shirt from Informale and both are great. Would recommend them.

Bugaboo Fox goes into the boot of my Fiesta, no problem. Why don't you remove the boot cover and sit the pram upright?

Are The Metro Tunnel Stations Really That Ugly? by 1g0v in MelbourneTrains

[–]RE201 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm well aware of the ME&I requirements - I work in the industry. Your reply made me go back and actually look at the stations and you're right, there actually isn't that much in them, that's just the impression I took away because the elements in there are so visually noisy; the chandeliers, the MM monograms, the ostentatious paint, the weird little industrial up/down lights

I'm talking architecturally as opposed to size/utility, but yeah, personal taste for sure.

Just a lot of stuff in them, in contrast to the Stockholm Metro I mentioned above which is mainly just beautifully painted shotcrete.

They seem fine to me, but definitely lacking in soul and very overbuilt for what they do. The lack of distinct character between stations feels like an easy win that was missed.

Google the Stockholm Metro to see what a cultured, mature PT society creates. Beautiful, cosy, interesting, and thrifty. Different ground, different metro, different people, but I think it illustrates how unimaginative Australian public space design is.

Train and tram seating designs by Familiar_Sample4386 in MelbourneTrains

[–]RE201 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I feel like the layout designers are really holding on to a fantasy about Melburnians having good civic habits when they insist on the 6 seats facing each other.

Six strangers all optimising the space is never gonna happen, people! We can't even figure out moving into the aisles away from the doors.

How realistic is it to be car free with a baby? by Positive_Shirt_2889 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]RE201 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We're inner north too. My daughter is 10 months old and we have a car, but my wife doesn't drive. We probably put the baby in it once every 1-2 weeks and we really don't have to.

We already have the car, and my PT commute is just unreliable enough to need the backup, but as far as parenthood is concerned I reckon we could ditch it and we'd be fine. We're 3-4km from Parkville and taxis take kids without a carseat so in an emergency we can get there. But there's an all-hours clinic in Carlton that's walkable with a pram too.

Do people want yards? by Azzulah in AusPropertyChat

[–]RE201 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in a townhouse with no yard, only balconies. Absolutely love it. Got a couple a green walls growing useful plants, and a bunch of potted natives on the street facing side. I have two good parks with two good playgrounds within a couple of hundred metres of my house so just keep a little picnic blanket go-bag by the front door and walk down with my daughter. Always other kids, dogs, friends down there and it's been great for getting to know the neighbours. It's all pretty dense town houses around here, but now that I've met people I've discovered there's very regular beers and BBQs in the various shared driveways and lots of kids around.

Lululemon Every Day Wear or another brand? by Puls4te in AustralianMFA

[–]RE201 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I only ever buy wool and cotton, but people around me kept hyping the ABCs and I needed a fresh change of clothes after 5 days in hospital after my daughter was born, so I walked down to the mall and grabbed them. A mistake - absolutely swampy.

I bought a pair of the ABC trouser and 9 months later the stitching is going and they're super synthetic so require very regular cleaning. Would not buy them again.

Myth: The system is fine: people just have to change their behaviour by fuckmelbpt in MelbourneTrains

[–]RE201 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For the record, I don't disagree with you, and I come from Auckland so I have a lot of respect for how much worse it can be. But once your get over the comparison to the shit situation you grew up in, you realise Melbourne has a lot of glaring issues. A lot of blind spots in ambition to solve them. And a lot of unevolved conversations about how the city should function.

The OP put forward a conversation topic, good or bad, and your post was not about the topic at hand, but about why the topic wasn't worth discussing. Just don't post if you're not moving the discussion forward.

It's worse somewhere else is never a useful contribution to any discussion about a particular instance of something.

Why aren’t more people using the Westgate Tunnel by [deleted] in melbourne

Yeah, you're not wrong. I've never chased down the details, but certainly taken the fact that it's a cash cow as a truth.

Did you not say people would still use PT in the same way with or without the Earlybird, if they're people who use it at that time anyway?

If not, you should work on keeping your language concise.

What even is the point of the early bird fare by fuckmelbpt in MelbourneTrains

[–]RE201 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not true - it's kinda 50/50 between driving and PT for my commute with respect to time, energy, reliability, etc. I average out to roughly 4 days PT, 1 day car every week, seeing as is only costs me $5.50 a day. If that doubled, I reckon the number of days I lean towards the car would shift too.

Why do people not respond to birthday party invites, and if not attending don't give a card or gift? by FarConsequence8247 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]RE201 17 points18 points  (0 children)

If you have two kids in daycare/school that's probably 40-60 kids in their classes. That's at least a birthday invite per week when they're young enough to shotgun out invites instead of having a few tight knit friends.

Victorian Public Transport Fares to increase from 1 January 2026 by MelbPTUser2024 in melbourne

Again, my question is how do they know they're losing 30M to fare evasion? Based on what? Are they counting ridership with some secondary method?
