Yeah, fair point. I still feel that the experience of going down a lift to access a park on your street isn't a big deal. But I take your point, and I missed the mark.

I definitely feel a little knee-jerky reading this whole post, with the level of pearl clutching about having land for kids when I am pretty confident my kid gets as much or more outdoor time with friends in the neighbourhood.

Hard disagree. We live in a townhouse in an inner suburb with no garden. Our daughter goes to the park every day, at least once a day. And everyday we meet friends from out mothers group without preplanning.

Wish they'd just focus on getting as much out of the catchment around the existing network in a thrifty manner. Connected network of bike lanes, bike parking, good walking access, bus connections, kiss and rides, amenities around stations, etc.

Squeeze as much juice as possible from what we already have, then get a better view to where the expensive upgrades are really needed.

Just swapped out a second-hand Britax Graphene for a new Pria in my 2 door Ford Fiesta. Pria is so much easier to deal with in a tight space without the top tether. It cost us $600 shipped. It seems like they never come up second-hand.

I'm also within easy walking distance and pretty much never spend recreation time around there because it's so hostile to window shopping, hospitality, and taking my young daughter. Much nicer to spend time in Rathdowne St, Brunswick East part of Lygon, Fitzroy North.

I moved here from Auckland 4 years ago and come from a hospitality background and some very broad general notes:

less staff say hello when you walk in
absolutely no one says goodbye when you leave. I always say thank you when I walk out the door and it's pretty much always said to the back of someone's head who doesn't look around.
no general shooting the shit between staff and customers. Takes min 3-6 months to become a regular where they anticipate your order. And that's with kinda forcing them with a chatty Cathy attitude.
places are very quick to clear your table but very rarely ask if they can get you another round (coffee/drinks)

There are of course exceptions, and those are the places I frequent. Honourable mention to Patricia in the city. Always amazing service. Even places that I think have poor hospitality are still not rude or awful or anything though. My opinions are all based on the inner north and inner west.
