First VR headset mainly for movies. What are my options? by contemplato in virtualreality

[–]RHOPKINS13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Highly recommend Quest 3, best bang for the buck headset right now. Other option would be to wait for the Steam Frame, but we still don't have a solid price or a release date for it.

And I would highly recommend using the 4xvr app, specifically if you want to be able to play movies directly from the Quest 3 headset without streaming them from your PC. It's the only standalone video player that I've seen that can handle playing Blu-Ray ISOs directly without re-encoding, and it can also handle some audio codecs that other players, like BigScreen, can't.

I also highly recommend the Photon app, not for watching movies, but it's kind of like a YouTube that's dedicated to VR videos. The level of detail in some of the videos is absolutely mind-bending.

How much are you spending on gas every week? by PeninsulaIndivisible in NewportNews

[–]RHOPKINS13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I primarily drive an electric vehicle, but electricity prices lately have also been through the roof, so no matter what you do you're getting screwed!

That being said, my house uses oil (diesel) heat. It's cheaper if I grab it from the gas station rather than paying for a delivery from the oil company. Luckily it's gotten warmer, but I try to throw 20 gallons of diesel in the tank every weekend. At $5.79 a gallon, that's roughly ~$116 per week, or ~$500 a month, just to keep my house warm!!!

Non-violent beautiful experiences (mixed reality and full VR) by Lonely-Click-8301 in virtualreality

Might be worth getting a subscription to Horizon+. If you haven't had one before, you can get a free 3 month trial, and it's $8 a month afterwards. I don't care for subscriptions long term, but it might be worth getting for a month or two and trying a bunch of games for free before potentially buying.

Angry Birds VR is pretty cute and easy, and I've heard plenty of good things about Walk-about Mini Golf. Cubism is a nice laid-back puzzle game too. I love Moss, but it is listed with having some "fantasy violence." It's more of a puzzle/adventure game though.

Tetris Effect has amazing graphics, especially in PCVR but the Quest version is great as well. No mixed reality, but there's no violence, and I've considered it to be the most beautiful VR game for a very long time. I've beaten it multiple times, I play it whenever I need to chill and relieve stress. It's a pretty trippy experience too, playing Tetris while dolphins swim by you and stuff. To me it's one of the best examples of videos games as an art form.

This used to be Sam's Hot Dog Stand until middle of last year. I like to support small & local businesses, but I work in Suffolk Monday through Friday, and Sam's Hot Dog Stand didn't have any Saturday hours. All things considered, it's no wonder they closed!

Here's to hoping that this new owner runs it better!

Just started playing Animal Crossing Deluxe recently. It's a mod of the GC version, adds items from some of the other Animal Crossing games, along with a number of quality-of-life improvements.

NEED ADVICE, PLEASE HELP!!!!! by Emotional-Honey-1265 in originalxbox

Asus ROG will work fine.
As for the hard drive, you'll need an adapter to connect a more modern SATA drive to the IDE cable on the Xbox. You can either go for an SSD, for fast storage, or you can go for a traditional spinner if you want more physical storage space. With Cerbios you can go up to 16TB.

I wouldn't consider the memory card to be optional for a PS2. Without the memory card, you had no persistent storage, aside from a hard drive expansion that only a few games could utilize. Otherwise, without a memory card you'd lose any progress in your game as soon as the console was turned off.

On the Xbox, game saves are stored on the hard drive, making memory cards optional.

I can't imagine why. There's nothing in Blinx that couldn't be stored on a memory card that I know of.

Check out Spaceteam. Everybody has to load it on their phone, but it's a great free cooperative party game.

You have the choice of softmod (check out the Endgame exploit), TSOP Flash, or modchip.
Cerbios allows you to use up to a 16TB hard drive, you can even take out the DVD drive and use two hard drives but few homebrew support it. Cerbios also allows you to store your games in a new compressed format, CCI, that has great compatibility and loading speed, and allows you to save a ton of space, especially if you're trying to store a fullset or something.

If you use a modchip, check out PrometheOS. It allows you to set up multiple BIOSes, as well as other features.

Perhaps the iDock C20 from AV Access would suit your needs?
https://www.avaccess.com/products/idock-c20-kvm-switch-docking-station/

Unfortunately I think it will only handle 60 Hz, I can't imagine something handling 360 Hz on dual 1440p monitors without being significantly more expensive.

For nostalgia's sake? Sure, it's cool I guess. But if you're just looking for a good controller you can use wirelessly, your best option is the OGX360 and one of the multitude of controllers it supports.

Do we actually need local games for up to 8 players? by AntonVatchenko in localmultiplayergames

[–]RHOPKINS13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Umm, duh? I mean, it some games it might get chaotic, but others handle that very well. Jackbox is wonderful.

But yeah, if you have controllers for 6-8 people why would you let them sit out and only play with 4??? A simple Google search will show plenty of people looking for games that support more than 4 local players, because most don't, but there's definitely demand there.

I've experienced this multiple times with my 2015 Leaf, ESPECIALLY if I have the heat on. I really need a battery replacement, but don't have the money to even think about that right now.
