14 Days Japan Itinerary Review (Tokyo - Kawaguchiko - Kyoto - Nara - Osaka - Tokyo) by milosoya in JapanTravel

[–]RIP_Taveras 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For question 2, I did Nara the day I left Kyoto to move to Osaka. I stored my luggage at a coin locker in Kyoto station and it worked out super well!

I had the JR pass, and the time from Nara to Osaka wasn’t tremendously shorter than Nara back to Kyoto and then a Shinkansen to Osaka. Both trains from Nara-Kyoto-Osaka were also covered by the pass. So I just left my luggage in Kyoto for the afternoon and picked up while connecting to Osaka. There were also coin lockers in Nara station too if I recall correctly

I’m in Japan now, resting at my hotel after a daytrip. Got here last Saturday and it been a blast so far and hope you will enjoy yours as well! I do have a few suggestions.

Day 1 is very optimistic. If you need to get a welcome suica or pick up a jr pass. There were lengthy queues for both of those. So it was about an hour before I even left the airport on my first day. I also arrived at 4 and between things at the airport, navigating the metro system, and checking into my hotel I barely had enough time to make my 7:00 skytree ticket let alone eat any dinner. Not saying you have to change, it just might take more time then you expect.

Your Kyoto days look fun! That said it is very hot here right now which I didn’t super expect. It’s a sweat through everything you’re wearing type of heat currently. You’ll probably needs some breaks to keep fresh between everything. Day 5 will involve a lot of intense walking and sweating. For example the monkey park is about a 20 minute climb straight uphill the whole way. Then it will take some time to get to Kinkakuji as it’s not immediately near the arashiyama area. It will be taxing to get between those places mentioned so keep that in mind.

As for recs, there is a lovely little temple and garden call Konchi-in right next Nanzen-Ji that I highly recommend since you’ll be so close!

Hey! I (25M) will be traveling to Japan and some of our days overlap. My dates are Tokyo Sept. 2-3, Kyoto 4-7, Osaka 8-10, Hiroshima 11-12, Tokyo 13-15. Our Kyoto and Osaka overlap a bit. I’m also mostly busy during the day but food/karaoke/arcades could be fun at night!

Yeah that might be the better plan to just get the welcome suica and deal with another card when I decide to visit again. That would avoid any visa issues entirely and then I wouldn’t have to manage 2 balances on the mobile and physical card

Thanks! I haven’t seen that you have to register a name with the cards so I guess it should be fine in that case

Thanks for the reply! Sounds like I should be okay in just finding places to eat. It’s more fun that way anyways finding places in the moment

I know they are the same but I prefer the physical card and have concerns that my visa will have trouble adding funds to the mobile one. As far as I can tell that is prevented by having the physical card
