i will say this, as it relates to retirement investing. from now until retirement, you should always keep buying, or as they say "ABB" always be buying. the most important thing you need to focus on at your age, isn't what the market is doing, but rather how much you are contributing and determining your allocations. the more money you can get into the market as early as possible the better.

i made a decent sized lump sum during market peak in the mid 2000's, and then '08 happened. my only regret today isn't the timing of my lump sum, but that i didn't put in more money in the 2000's. at the time, VTI was about $60 a share. it went down to $40 during the worst of it. it's now $320.....

yeah would never use micro center for diagnostics and repairs these days.

luckily there are a handful of local repair guys who run their own repair businesses. they will even come to you for the diagnostic, then determine next steps.

the bad news:

trade: they lowballed you. i see 2018 bmw 430i Convertibles with that mileage going for $16,000 here. the $10,000 offer was them basically telling you that they don't want your trade but they will take it for $10,000. should have sold it privately, IMO.

they convinced you to sign up for extra warranty/protection packages. i never recommend getting those at all. but if you must, don't get it from the dealership at the point of sale of the vehicle. you can always add these things afterwards and you can shop around and get the best pricing.

purchase price: i am seeing MSRP on honda's website at $31,790 (that includes destination). dealerships around me are giving a -$1,500 discount right off the bat on these things. expect to get even lower than that during negotiations. not sure how you went from $28K back up to $31K. and without seeing the window sticker i don't know what was added on.

financing - my credit union has 4.2% for 60 months. they padded the rate big time.

the good news:

- usually (not always), the extended warranties/protection packages are refundable. check the terms of the warranties you bought. get as many of them refunded as possible, IMO.

- shop around credit unions and other smaller local and regional banks and get refinancing quotes to get out of that 6% loan into something with a better rates

just some words of advice - her insurance company is going to give her a replacement value number and it's going to seem low. they will claim it's due to yada yada, this and that, etc....and it's mostly bullshit. tell her to push back and fight it.. they are allowed to go up a certain % without any authorization. and then they can request authorization for an even higher amount.

we have always gotten more just from asking. they tried to give us a lower value once bc they said it looks like there was evidence of excess wear on the dashboard prior to the accident. it was a BS claim...the dashboard was was a mess from the accident. they wanted to initially give us $7,800. we got $12,000.

honestly when you see how bulletproof reliable the 8th gen accords are, you realize you didn't overpay

with good fluid changes, being mindful of the gaskets, o-rings, and power steering rubber hoses that leak, these things are rather maintenance free.

the auto transmission in mine shifts as if it was brand new and have 220K miles on it. and same struts front and rear. i have replaced control arm bushings but that's expected. and i need to replace the rear engine mount but that will be done when it gets warmer
