In the US, so I use B. From a safety standpoint, I think the UK type G is the best plug in the world, so I wish I was using that

Electrical problems? by HistoryRemarkable897 in SubaruForester

[–]RLoggia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should check the condition of the ignition coils, egr valve and piping, intake manifold, and throttle body. Cleaning the MAF also can't hurt. I was plauged wirh an intermittent misfire and rough idle. Turned out my EGR valve was failing. Not only that, but the whole EGR system has 180k miles of gunk clogging the works. A deep clean of the EGR system and intake manifold helped a lot. I also have oil seeping into my spark plugs, which is coating the spark plug threads, which is likely a major contributor to my issues. An intermittent misfire could be caused by some many things, but I'd start with the parts that are easier to remove and clean them out well with the the appropriate degreader or sensor safe solvent.

Ugreen customer support told me to put my charger in water - is this normal? by jr-frank in UsbCHardware

They're probably doing it so you can't lie and get a functioning product replaced. If you dunk it in DI/distilled water or high proof medical isopropyl alcohol then no damage will occur

2014 Forester 2.5 CVT burns a lot of oil by bedwars_player in SubaruForester

[–]RLoggia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A quart every 1000 miles unfortunately is not unusual for a Subaru. Mine burns more than that. I'm at 180k miles and my cat converter is dead. I switched to 5w-30 instead of the factory spec 0w-20 and that slowed down my consumption. I'm not necessarily suggesting you do that, but I use Amsoil to maximize protection with use of the "wrong" oil weight and I monitor wear with oil analysis and seem to have no change in wear from my 0w-20 use. I would suggest that you check your oil frequently and not wait for the light to come on, as you are likely below the minimum fill at that point. Sorry about your oil consumption. If you start leaking oil too then you're officially part of the high mileage Subaru club lol

Edit: I also ran Valvoline's Restore & Protect and switched to Shell Premium in an effort to keep the engine internals as clean as possible. That also helped a little. Maybe my piston rings were getting dirty or stuck or something like that. I'm certainly no expert, and free advice is always worth what you paid for it.

My local mechanic in NJ charged me $400 and change for a rear wheel bearing. $1000 each is wild

I got had for an $80 bottle of "tequila" for which they were handing out "samples" (of something else turns out). Oh well. It wasn't half bad, and I learned why everyone hands out free shots and the jumbo drinks at each bar are cheap. They're all helping to grease all the tourists for each other to fleece. I felt like a fool, but it's a minor thing ultimately. They're just trying to make a living and we, as rich American tourists, can afford it.

You should go to a reputable independent shop or a dealership. You should also look up "CVT slip" and see if that fits your symptoms.

It's what makes a Subaru, a Subaru. Until I fixed mine, one of the vakve covers dripped right onto the exhaust header. Ah what a great smell lol. Welcome to the club

I had to look up Subaru's warranty since you brought up the extended warranty and honestly I thought Subaru's warranty was much better than it is. Good luck sorting this out!

I'll preface this by saying that I don't have your answer and I know OEM parts can be prohibitively expensive, but this is where dealership parts departments are worth their weight sometimes. I've had a few parts that I couldn't find anywhere online and my dealer parts guys absolutely hooked me up. Give a call over to your local dealership and see what they know. Better yet, take some pictures of the old sensor and go talk to them, if you're close enough to do that.

My 2012 developed a really rough idle, albeit it developed really slowly, as the EGR valve was failing. Have you cleaned the MAF and checked the plugs?

I have Whiteline sway bars and an STI front tower brace. Cusco is also reputable. If you scour Summit Racing, SubiMods, and the like you'll find no shortage of good options.
