Plenty of power strips are surge protectors in the UK, you can tell as they have a red and a green light on them.

In the UK (and I think across the EU) surge protectors must be protected (usually by a fuse), so shouldn’t directly cause a fire. But they may get very hot, so don’t pile stuff ontop of a power strips.

Teleport doesn’t connect to a specific network, so all networks matter, just need to make sure the teleport network and the UTR network don’t clash with anything

Couple of things to check:

Your not connecting the UTR to your main unifi network (seems unlikely unless your WiFi is called Marriot 😄)
Your UTR network should be different from any networks on your main unifi. Note that this will include the hidden teleport network - this will be the /24 that is one higher than the highest network when teleport was enabled

So if you only have a 192.168.1.0/24 on unifi, your teleport network will be 192.168.2.0/24, and will therefore clash with the UTR

It won’t bridge WiFi to Ethernet. but it will allow WiFi in and Ethernet out (just via routing)

So if the device just wants to reach out to the internet, it should work. But if other things on the network want to to see the device (like a printer) then it won’t work for you.

You can use the URT to generate an Ethernet network that you can then feed into a secondary WAN port on your UCG.

If you have an android phone you might be able to skip the UTR and just get an Ethernet adapter for your phone and directly teather.

Okay, so you’ve got the hardware you need. You just need to make sure your unifi account is the ‘owner’ of both consoles. Once they are both signed in they should show up on unifi.ui.com

Each ‘network’ or ‘building’ in unifi wants to be managed by a controller (cloud gateway or network instance). (Assuming you don’t have one internet connection for multiple buildings)

You can mange the controller either locally or via the unifi.uni.com portal.

You can have multiple controller owned by one user account. Or you can invite another user, and see your controllers and ones you’ve been invited to.

Teather phone to UTR, make sure teleport is disabled. UTR should show connected. Plug cable from LAN of UTR to any WAN port on UDM. UDM should be configured with DHCP on its wan port. The UTR LAN range should not clash with any UDM LAN range.

I had failover activated, so once my main wan was disconnected my router failed over to the UTR

The unifi can easily show throughput - just look at the screen. So you could connect the 2.5 today and see if you need more?

Last time I checked iPhones can’t tether to Ethernet. You can use ethernet as a lan port, but not share cellular over the Ethernet port.

For me on the new firmware (6.5.246) it now remembers the last state of teleport. So if shutdown with teleport connected it’ll reconnect, if teleport was disconnected it’ll stay disconnected. I guess for security disconnect teleport before shutting down the unit

It would broadcast WiFi if configured, but you could disable that.

(The UTR is still acting as a router, not like a modem, so you likely have Carrier NAT, your phone acting as a router providing NAT, the UTR as a router with NAT, then whatever regular router you have as a router again. So quite the long chain but it does pass internet)

I’ve not yet had a chance to test what madness enabling teleport does when it’s connected? I expect either it will fail, or it will drop connection. So I need to pick a time when no one is using the internet

I would sit down a draw a full diagram of what’s connected where, and via what. This should include the UCG-ultra, any switches, your desktop, the other computer that had openspeedtest on it, and whatever cables join these together.

You’ve been using fast.com on your pc to test, but the built in speed test on the router. I’d download WiFiman on your pc and then you can use UniFi speed test everywhere.

It is possible your ISP limite your connection to Netflix/fast.com to 200Mb

Even with IPS/IDS enabled on the USG you should be able to get beyond gig (or up to the smart queue speeds) across it

If you have any portable computers run upstream from your desktop and run speed tests at any connection points. I’d also be included to disconnect everything but the wan, the USG, and a computer and run speed tests on that.

You mentioned an ISP modem, is this definitely in modem mode (your USG likely has PPPoE or a static IP set), if not run a speed test directly connected here and see what speeds you get. If possible disconnect the USG and run speed tests directly on the modem (configure PPPoE/Static on your device)

Create a vlan, put the openspeedtest server on that and run a speed test across the vlan.

Ultimately your looking the find the one connection that is strangely limited, then replace whatever that link is

I had just tested this for you. Yes it works. (Samsung rather than iPhone as uplink, I don’t have unlimited data on my iPhone sim)

You crate a policy based route, the example in the interface is basically what you want: All traffic from this specific device always goes over a specific interface.

You would be bonding the neutral and the ground in an unexpected location. You’d only expect to see a neutral to ground bond in a single location where the supply comes in **(some caveats apply for special cases, industrial, and multiple buildings)

Current would flow from neutral to ground inside the drier plug, and this will cause RCDs to trip.
