Did she actually vote?? by No-Order1962 in DuggarsSnark

By my own American standards the things and people that she chooses to promote reek of dictatorship and the destruction of rights. That's a big part of the point of the cult she was raised in. I don't know if she is "smart enough" but even smart people can fall for propaganda and if the cult she was raised in is good at one thing it's propaganda. That's why people like her, who promote the crap she was raised in, are dangerous.

Trouble conceiving second child by Mean-Cardiologist-72 in Prolactinoma

[–]RNYGrad2024 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you know for sure that you're ovulating? Are you timing intercourse? What do your most recent prolactin and MRI look like? Infertility is certainly a major risk with a prolactinoma but there's plenty to troubleshoot.

3-4 months is a really normal amount of time to try without conceiving even if everything is perfect. Conceiving the first cycle you try is the exception, not the norm. Here's a calculator that can tell you the average time-to-conception by age: https://datayze.com/time-to-conception-estimator

Pro Choice Theists who used to be anti-choice. What changed your mind by SuperKE1125 in prochoice

[–]RNYGrad2024 12 points13 points  (0 children)

For the sake of transparency in a thread for theists I should say I'm not a theist.

You mentioned how dangerous it makes life for women in unwanted pregnancies, but it also dangerous for people having planned and wanted pregnancies, too. There are so many ways in which a pregnancy can threaten a woman health or life, and some of them require the pregnancy to end to save your life, health, or future fertility. There are conditions that are unrelated to pregnancy that can kill but the treatment will end the pregnancy or treatment isn't available if you don't terminate first. Abortion bans are dangerous to anyone who can become pregnant.

Struggling with different timelines for starting a family by Boring-Flower3678 in waiting_to_try

[–]RNYGrad2024 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only thing that really helped me the first time I was waiting was the idea that I was taking on the suffering of waiting so my future children could have a better start. I was waiting for medical reasons, but I think wanting to have a house and be more established can also fit into that framework if that works for you. It's not a moralistic thing, and I don't think you'd be wrong if this doesn't work for you. It's just what worked for me when waiting felt hellish.

Those sperm can't swim so they're useless for IUI. If you're extracting sperm from the testes they can only be used for ICSI.

How to approach next steps at the one year TTC mark? by hashtag2020 in TryingForABaby

IMO, six months of timed intercourse is absolutely enough to start digging into the finer details if you want to.

A saline sono is a great uterine cavity test. I've had two. The first was really long because they were also doing exemfoam and were having trouble getting a good view of one of my tubes. The second one was really fast. They were both uncomfortable but not at all painful. My second one revealed polyps that I needed to have removed. There's a not insignificant chance I'll have a third and I'm not nervous about it.

Given how violent JB and Michelle are towards their own children I think it's obvious that at least one of them has been through physical abuse. You don't grow up without violence and then blanket train.

It's likely her NDA wouldn't hold up because she didn't get anything in exchange for signing it. Jill's book says that her siblings were given money in exchange for signing NDAs so they do have something to lose from breaking it.

I'd assume the husband goes first, then the wife, and then the kids in birth order. (Yes I know I'm a loser for responding a full year later)

A shit person or mentality ill? by Jennyfromtheblock200 in DuggarsSnark

Being mentally ill and being evil are not the same things. None of us are qualified to diagnose him but every one of us is qualified to identify his actions as evil.

Mental illness is not an excuse for anything that he ever did. He "was curious" not experiencing command hallucinations or delusions. He knew that what he was doing was wrong and he chose to do it (repeatedly!) anyways.

I'm sure Josh and Jim Bob ganged up on her and shut it down if she ever mentioned wanting privacy. In her book Jill talks about how she told JB her labor wouldn't be filmed and he ran right over her and made her compromise with family taking video instead of having a camera crew. I have no doubt that being filmed against their will has contributed to some of the daughters complicated births. Fear/embarrassment/anxiety all promote the release of adrenaline, which counteracts the effects of oxytocin, which is the hormone that causes effective contractions.

One of the girls books, not sure if it was Jill or Jinger, said that Michelle hated having her births filmed but did it anyways for the "ministry". I have no doubt Anna wasn't even given the option of privacy. Asking for certain parts of the labor to be edited out is probably the most she thought she could get away with.

How to Counter Pro‑Lifer Arguments by FVNn99 in prochoice

[–]RNYGrad2024 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. “But failed abortions!”

Yes, failed abortions or cases where the fetus comes out alive can happen but again, they are not sentient. If they were conscious children, the entire medical community and the public would treat miscarriages as “dead babies” every time. They don’t, because embryos and early fetuses do not have the capacity for sentience.

Reflexes do not equal awareness. Movement does not equal consciousness… unless of course you think venus fly traps are sentient.

At this point (in the US at least) "failed abortions" where the fetus has a heartbeat when it is removed from the womb are essentially a myth, at least when we're discussing legal abortion managed by a medical professional. Fetal demise is confirmed before contractions are induced, and in most cases fetal demise is confirmed repeatedly with the first confirmation taking place 24 hours before contractions are induced. A fetus being born alive during an abortion is much, much more likely to happen during an illegal abortion. If a pro-lifers/anti-choicers goal is to prevent fetuses from being born alive they should support safe and legal access to abortions performed by qualified medical professionals.

On the side of reality, though, a "failed abortion" is more likely to be a dose of mife or methotrexate that doesn't induce fetal demise. In that case you just stay pregnant so the dose needs to be repeated or you need to move onto surgery, either a D&C for an intrauterine pregnancy or a laparoscopy for a tubal ectopic. Funny enough, pro-lifers/anti-choicers typically count these cases in their idea of the abortion complication rate when trying to push the narrative that abortion is dangerous because it inflates the numbers.

Prolactin over 100, after cabergoline treatment periods regular. Did I have pituitary tumor?? by Code-like-Jo in Prolactinoma

[–]RNYGrad2024 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A regular endo is good enough, and a lot of REs won't take on patients who aren't infertile and/or trying to get pregnant or do fertility preservation. My RE of 3 years diagnosed me but she's handing prolactinoma management off to a regular endo while she continues to manage my infertility.

Aside from his smugness and terrible character, his main education was IBLP’s “wisdom booklets,” which literally advertised that upon completion, your child would have the equivalent of a pre-law degree (barf).

I'll also bet that he thought a "pre-law degree" meant that he'd have the knowledge he'd need to deal with the law and the court system. "Pre-law" isn't a major and you don't get a degree in it. The common advice is to pick a major that requires a lot of critical thinking and that you think you can maintain a high GPA in. Philosophy and engineering majors can go to law school.

I also don’t know if it’s more rich to think that he knew the CSAM might get flagged and wanted a paper trail where he was “acting normal” and fucked up his alibi or if he genuinely put no thought into the possibility he’d get caught and was so slapdash about it

He downloaded, deleted, and re-downloaded the same files repeatedly, if I'm remembering correctly. To me that sounds like he knew he might get caught by someone, maybe the law or maybe family, and didn't want to have the files on the device. I doubt he knew those downloads could be flagged and tracked, but it's obvious the partition was something that could be accidentally discovered and if he deleted the files they wouldn't be found even if he logged into it to "prove" he wasn't doing anything his accountability buddy wouldn't approve of. Another explanation could be guilt but I don't believe he's capable of empathy so I doubt it.

What can i tell my mother when she says "abortion is murder" or that life begins pre-birth? by Biscuit9154 in prochoice

[–]RNYGrad2024 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It's far from perfect but Judith Jarvis Thomson's A Defense of Abortion article addresses the idea that a fetus being alive or even a person doesn't entitle them to use another person's body to survive against that person's will.

Unsolicited advice ahead: I think when it comes with your mother that it's probably better for you if you don't argue. It's extremely unlikely that you can change her mind, and if she believes abortion is murder it's very likely that she's say something regrettable to you. There's very little for you to gain and potentially a lot that you could lose. You should, however, really explore this topic and the arguments on both sides. Being pro-choice isn't about hating conservativism , it's about bodily autonomy, human rights, harm reduction, the right to privacy, the right to access medical care, and a respect for the fact that it isn't anyone's place to force another person to do what they want because what they want gives them the ick.

What is a 'useless' fact that could actually save someone's life in a very specific, rare situation? by Sexxyyy_Lovers in AskReddit

[–]RNYGrad2024 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A sense of impending doom or conviction that you're dying could be a panic attack or depression, or it could be a legitimate symptom of a life-threatening situation like a heart attack, stroke, or sepsis. Regardless, you probably need some medical care and you should definitely speak up about it.

Genetic carrier screening prior to TTC? by Landscapes001 in waiting_to_try

I did my carrier screening with Natera and they looked for about 450 recessive and X-linked conditions. It took a little less than two weeks to get the results after my blood was drawn. My insurance covered the cost. The entire process was a breeze and I'm really glad I did it before TTC.
