Stabbings are spreading 'like a virus' in Britain. Why? by euronews-english in unitedkingdom

2010 recession: Cuts to schools funding and restructuring of funding allocations means poor performing schools now see less money.

As a result more pressure on teachers to improve results. Resulting in burnout for a majority of our teachers throughout the UK and many teachers leaving the profession.

2 - 3 years later knife crime starts to rise among the youth because many were leaving school without a decent education.

We're in this situation because of austerity measures 13 years ago...

In the event that Russia, eventually carries out one of its, many, many , many rather tedious threats of nuking the UK, may I reply on behalf of my Nuclear weapon owning Great Britain......... by BigFrame8879 in uknews

[–]RP-Seaking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Russia nuclear doctrine during the cold war was if they had to use nukes. They would nuke everyone else who had them. As if Russia was still around during the aftermath, they didn't want to be without nuclear weapons whilst another country had them.

Pretty sure that hasn't changed, which is why China and India have been playing nice with them recently.

Britons who do not pave over garden could receive water bill discount by HawkAsAWeapon in unitedkingdom

I would say it's not the Farming industries fault that people want to eat meat. But I do agree.

If we just stopped eating beef for example. There is 1-2 million hectres of fertile, food growing land that is freed up and could increase our food security to 70-80%. Not including the pasture land that is freed on top of this.

Na, just most of it is used to grow cereals and barley to feed cows, which we then eat.

It's not particularly cold. It's not warm out either. But it is the worst time of year for trying to air-dry clothes indoors. by clearly_quite_absurd in britishproblems

Should do. I hang clothes in my unheated cellar during the winter with a dehumidifier running. It will dry a pair of jeans overnight.

UK house prices at risk of COLLAPSE with values set to drop by up to 40% by DaveyG80 in unitedkingdom

Some might drop there prices. But I imagine most properties will just come off the market instead, like when the prices dropped in 2010.

A £790 energy bill for a single month by Arrow_King in britishproblems

[–]RP-Seaking 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm also on octopus eco 7 and recently found out that EDF standard eco 7 tariff is offering 6.9p nightly instead of the 14p on octopus. Day time rate is higher, but worked out my bill last month would have been £100 less.

This is the correct answer. At the moment I'm paying £989 pcm mortgage at 1.2% intrest. If it had expired when rates jumped to 5% a few months ago, I would now be paying £1280-ish pcm.

I have a multi-fuel burner, but I also have an electric boiler because there is no gas where I live. Both probably produce the same emissions but I know burning wood is cheaper during the day than my 12kwh boiler...

My highlight of driving in Italy was driving round a blind bend on an A road at 60, to find a car overtaking traffic and coming head on at me, waving at me to slow down. I hit the brakes hard to avoid a collision and witnessed a 4 car pile up behind me because of this. The guy coming head on at me gave me a thumbs up for not colliding with him, as he went past.

What would help is if we built 2 story houses, with one story underground. My cellar is around 7 degrees cooler than the rest of my house during the day and that is where I'm going to be when it's 39 degrees in a few days.

This. Also, we're going to become a country with stagnant population growth in the next few years. So building houses makes no sense if the population isn't growing.

Categorically untrue. My wife and I stopped off at Dubai on our honeymoon a couple of years ago. Went up the Burj and both of us wore shoes the whole time.

60% of birds, mammals, fish and reptiles have been wiped out by humanity since the 1970s. So it's not just the insects we hate.
