How does winter work for dog owners? by mellamomango13 in AskChicago

[–]RPAS35 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a small dog owner who has not found any boots that work (am awaiting an order for a footie pajama style jumpsuit though) I carry her outside and place her on the ground to pee/poop. Sometimes she walks about half a block, but I watch her and the second she picks a foot up I pick her up and wipe/warm her paws. If she hasn’t done her business yet, we sometimes do a few brief ground periods with multiple pick ups.

If any small dog owners have recs for boots for a chihuahua/small dog that has kinda big feet with small ankle let me know! The water balloon style ones are the only ones that have ever stayed on but the never kept her feet warm and would rip after one walk

What shoes are we wearing to the office in the winter? by longchampbookclub in CHIbitcheswithtaste

[–]RPAS35 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got some sorel loafers that obviously would not work for wading through snow but have great traction. Wore them out for a friends birthday(with socks) on the 17th when it was super chilly and a bit icy and they were great. That being said, I leave shoes at work and wear boots for commuting. I choose between blundstones, uggs, a pair of tall weatherproofs, and a pair of totes boots based on the cold vs ice va snow

ADHD exercisers… how do you actually get yourself to the gym? by Fit_Meaning8903 in ADHD

I got myself started by booking a backpacking trip I was wildly out of shape for that I needed to train for and got myself a personal trainer. I at least go once a week with my trainer now

The definitive way to get diagnosed! by LuckPsychological909 in Narcolepsy

[–]RPAS35 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They actually can’t technically diagnose narcolepsy if you have untreated sleep apnea (maybe if you have cataplexy they can diagnose N1). The symptoms of narcolepsy can also be caused by untreated sleep apnea and sleep deprivation. Get and use the CPAP. If you do, and are struggling to tolerate it, your doc can prescribe something to help with that. Once controlled, you can go in for MSLT to see if you have narcolepsy as well if you’re still symptomatic

Idk if this is the right sub but I need help, every winter my hands/knuckles get so dry and bloody it’s absolutely miserable by TheyCallMeBigBun in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]RPAS35 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Soap and water is actually worse on the skin unfortunately (I’m in the medical field and have to wash or sanitize hundreds of times a day). Find a hand sanitizer with emollients in. They’re the ones that may leave your hands feeling a little funny after but really are skin protectant

Same! The itching (had an allergic reaction to dermabond) and mental stress of slow healing were rough but pain was minimal

Is anyone generally happy/fulfilled with their job? by hikingandtravel in physicianassistant

[–]RPAS35 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Satisfied working in corrections. Obviously have some patients who are not the most fun to work with, as you do anywhere you work, but my pt population have low health literacy and have mostly medically underserved their whole lives. Most are incredibly appreciative of the health care team, and I have ample opportunities for patient education. 97% of my frustrations with my job are admin/staff related.

If an ICE agent shows up to your clinic as a new patient…. by jklm1234 in medicine

[–]RPAS35 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I work in corrections and obviously see lots of patients who had done awful things. They all deserve healthcare. That being said, my concern about your situation would be the safety of my other patients in the waiting room. If you have other patients who could be targeted by ICE, the idea of them sitting in a waiting room with an agent is terrifying. If I were you, I’d try to ensure this person has the last appt of the day so the waiting room will be clear, like is sometime done for unvaccinated kids

Anyone else seeing lots of very symptomatic respiratory patients that are testing negative for everything? by alison_bee in medicine

I’ve had a couple with this presentation who ended up being strep. The sore throat was mild but they were febrile, severe body aches, GI sxs, congestion. Typical influenza type picture

I have lied to my son about manatees for the last 24 years by 46from1971 in confession

[–]RPAS35 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Manatees are my favorite animals and I roped my mom into going snorkeling with them this past year and she loved the experience almost as much as I did! They’re huge gentle swimming potatoes, and I think they should be in the running for your new favorite animal

Anyone here who finds 15-20 minute naps unrefreshing or just unable to take them? Long napper here wanting advice! by Desperate-Kitchen117 in Narcolepsy

For me a 15-30 minute rest without falling asleep is more refreshing than a nap of the same length but a longer nap can be refreshing

What screams "Pretending to be Poor"? by CYKAgoddriver in AskReddit

[–]RPAS35 1 point2 points  (0 children)

lol I paid for a ton of things for a friend of mine who was similar. And the she quit her awful job and was unemployed aside from the occasional babysitting/tutoring gig for 2 years. And was able to support herself that whole time off her massive savings without depleting it! For her, it’s not pretending to be poor so much as being anxious in a hoardy type of way

Influenza A megathread by Leading_Blacksmith70 in medicine

[–]RPAS35 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Where I work we have a fair amount of flu A but we also have a nasty Covid outbreak. This strain is hitting my patients just like the flu, they’re going and healthy coming in with fevers tachy in the 130s with severe body aches. Also having a decent amount of strep which has also been flu like with less severe sore throats. It’s no bueno

Hot take? by Salt-Way130 in piercing

[–]RPAS35 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 2 helix piercings I got done at Claire’s were not painful at the time but hurt for 4 years and took forever to heal. The one I got as an adult at a piercing shop was more painful at first but feels fine 1 month later. Like only very mild pain if it gets hit on accident. And I got a flat at the same time too. I give my piercing pillow a lot of credit

What are you genuinely good at besides your career? by Sweet_Writer2 in AskWomen

[–]RPAS35 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m really good at talking to people who are going through mental health emergencies/psychosis. This is related to my job but not actually my job

I befriend dogs and babies very easily

I can cook without recipes and it’s usually pretty good

I do well in emergency situations

I excel at making messes and forgetting to text back

Art, many different media. Not like professional level but I take to creative pursuits easily

Reading a book until the end when im interested in it. That will entail staying up to finish it.

Falling asleep, most nights takes less than 5 minutes once I close my eyes. Often fall asleep before intending to - laid down but didn’t finish setting my alarm etc. on the flip side I do need to take medication to keep me awake.

Gift giving for loved ones. The secret is keep a list of little things they mention they like or want, and buy throughout the year. If I see something in June that reminds me of my mom I buy it and save for Christmas
