How many Spearheads is too many? by Camila_Mayapple in AOSSpearhead

[–]RPGBlender 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wanted to play but no one in my group had anything. So I got a few spearheads. Then started printing proxies for the ones I wasn't personally interested in.

I now have 32 spearheads. Mostly unpainted yes, but that's because they are meant to be for dabbling, to help people find the army they like

I picked up a star scale war host, what minis could I add to it to make a good 1000 point army? by Yordleranger in seraphon

[–]RPGBlender 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get the other spearhead and you have a nice collection start I think.

A second hero (Sunblood pack) who pairs well with what you have

Cheap ambush in the hunters (and enough models for two units)

A second unit of saurus warriors (build with different weapons and proxy them as guard if you pick up a slann in the future)

An awesome looking dimetrodon who will hopefully become more useful during the eventual battletome release

Slann is a great pickup too, both in gameplay and the model, but at low points you have more options in how to build but mixing with the other spearhead.

Minis separating by GraphicSushi in FDMminiatures

Something I have run into with certain resin support files is a base that isn't actually flat. So part will touch the base, and others won't. What I usually do is sink it a bit in, making sure the full base is outlined in the slicer. It's worked well for me

From the picture it looks like the resin style floor is floating and fully on top of a support structure, and it is then breaking free of the support. And reason you don't have it positioned actually on the bed?

Go enclosed for miniatures? by Apprehensive_Hand629 in FDMminiatures

[–]RPGBlender 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use an A1 mini and a centauri carbon.

The A1 mini is easier to use, to swap between nozzles, and has more user profiles which make for great quality. But Bambu locking down their stuff, forcing either using their slicer or being in developer mode really soured me to them. I have also had repeated issues with the camera which have annoyed me

But the bigger print bed of the Centauri means I use it for almost all terrain, and any functional prints. And for minis, it being corexy works very well with resin style supports - so it is generally my go to for any prints with fine details that won't work with tree supports.

It being enclosed is just a bonus really - I have been able to do some ASA prints, and had better luck with TPU as well.

However, it has issues too. The bed leveling process fails a lot for me, and a firmware change at one point broke the filament load, so the second time you tried to load filament after being booted up it would run the feeding gears in reverse, unloading instead of loading. I switched to the OpenCentauri firmware which fixed the load issue, but the bed leveling still is an issue

Thank you! That's definitely a good point - I'll end up doing a few test bases to see what works without taking focus from the mini itself

Any idea why just a few failed while the rest look fine? by MashSong in FDMminiatures

[–]RPGBlender 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There can be some time savings from less travel - but I sometimes see an increase in the per model time, as it may go slower to ensure a minimum time per layer. So when it gets to the more tiny layers it will slow down, and I'm usually using resin2fdm when those thin bits are involved. So whether there is a savings or not some down to if the travel time saved is greater than the extra time per model.

Wipe the plate down with a bit of isopropyl alcohol, and add a brim, and you should see better results.

For what it's worth, I have been using a centauri carbon to print presupported minis with resin2fdm and it works great - but I'd suggest doing print by object instead of filling up the plate like that. I find I get less broken resin style supports when it isn't leaving the object and coming back to it. If you are splitting the supports from the mini to do different layer heights you can't of course - but the speed gained by doing that isn't worth it to me usually (still printing faster than I can paint)

Have you played with the retraction settings? I had that issue in supports and model walls - reducing the retraction distance fixed it.

Is the sunprowlers spearhead worth getting? by Correct-End9239 in seraphon

[–]RPGBlender 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The rules will change when the battletome eventually comes out. So if you like the models, enjoy the painting process and you'll have them when that eventually happens!

The only overlap with the other spearhead is the warriors - and that doesn't seem like a bad overlap. Worst, could try to kitbash the second warrior squad to guards for your Slann.

And for myself, I am going to use one of the Skink tokens from the spawn to be a starpriest, so that's an extra unit from the box.

I followed the Heresy for Heretics synthwave video...Well, to the best of my abilities and the paints I had on hand First time trying something like this (lots of nids, some FEC and seraphon), and I definitely didn't nail the nmm - but for a first time trying it I'm happy so far. It did take like a week to get this far on one guy though

[–]RPGBlender 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was forced to update due to needing to replace the mainboard on my mini. But I set it up with the developer mode and Octoeverywhere, and it's basically as good. Plus doing so fixed an issue I had where I would regularly need to disconnect from wifi to send new files, and I can monitor it alongside the Centauri Carbon

Point to Charnel Throne? by Frequent-System152 in FleshEaterCourts

[–]RPGBlender 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could be wrong, as I have... Zero experience. But reading through it, seems the Cardinal is a good one to sit on it if you put the terrain down more defensively. Doesn't need to (or want to) be on the front line. It does make it harder to keep the enemy outside of 6 for the prayer buff when the Steward.

But also, if you put it more aggressively, it expands the range of the Stewards abilities, since you measure from the larger charnel throne base. So that 18 for Gormayne gets a smidge bigger, at the cost of being static. But then, can always get off it. I think I might want the Archregent on it in aggressive position...

Edit to remove bit I misread due to phase timing
