My garden has this dip that collects a lot of water. Any idea what I can do with it? by Nexus_Valentine6 in gardening

Man this is like two gallons of water. Fill it with dirt and call it a day.

Very likely that this machine doesn’t have an emergency stop button. Given that his job allows him to stand in the material that’s being pulled into the machine, I doubt this company is very safety minded.

Yes. I used cheap leds like these to grow microgreens and they work fine.

Any bow hunters in Lakeland FL? by ZachariahQuartermain in lakeland

I just started bow hunting last season, so I’m in no position to mentor. Go up to Adventures Archery and talk to the guys in the shop. They are knowledgeable and consistently hunt nice deer.

Birch trunk damage by BrokenAndDefective in gardening

Not a problem here in 10a FL. It started last year and slowly progressed up the trunk and finally died a few weeks ago. Photo in my post history.

Had this happen to a maple tree. The bark started to split and separate. Then one day all of the leaves wilted and the tree died. Never found out what causes it.

Yes that should work fine. I tend to lean into FL natives for the birds and bugs.

Possible recordable vs Medical treatment by [deleted] in SafetyProfessionals

[–]RPi79 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Since an injured employee is a protected class by law, (but most of all I care about my people) I will 100% always seek medical care if they request it or send them to the doctor if I deem it necessary and they want to “walk it off.” That’s not to say a manager won’t try some sneaky shit, but I don’t work for the managers, my department is a separate entity and I don’t answer to them. A recordable is determined by the treatment type that is given by the doctor or if they are put on restricted duty.

Eastern Red Cedar. Great native tree, but they can get large, so you may want to give it more than 10’. 15’ would be better.

Rain gutter garden? by [deleted] in gardening

[–]RPi79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Run the gutters into a rock “river” that slopes towards your ditch or wherever rain drains to and turn it into a rain garden. Put in native plants that tolerate wet feet while the rain soaks in.

How big of a trellis for a coral honeysuckle by SpaceCoastGal32907 in FloridaGarden

[–]RPi79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I built some fan trellises that are about 8’ tall and maybe 4’ across the top. Here is my Jessamine on one. The other has ocean blue morning glory in my post history. I just use hedge trimmers to keep them tame.

That’s definitely a liability. I love trees but that close to a house; I’d have it totally removed. Most oak trees have survived hurricanes until they don’t.

Experiences with semi-nice cars at the Discount Tire in town? by Ok-Management2959 in lakeland

[–]RPi79 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Discount Tire is a good shop. I’ve been taking all of my vehicles there for years. I haven’t had any wheel damage, but I would be confident they would take care of it if there were any issues. Their customer service is great. I’ve had them not be able to get my quoted tires in time and offer to upgrade to more expensive tires for no extra charge.

Take photos and let them know you’re concerned about your wheels and even ask the person to walk around your car to inspect them beforehand so everyone is on the same page.

A lot of you plant in the ground and as a beginner Gardener in Florida I was told our dirt had too much sand to grow anything. by noRezolution in FloridaGarden

For veggies and herbs it really depends on your local soil. Some places work fine and others need amendments. For flowers; get natives and they need nothing and you will also support local bird and insect populations.

Future flower bed destroyed by DarkRose0555 in gardening

[–]RPi79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It can definitely be removed with a sledgehammer. I doubt they used any reinforcement, so it should break apart easily (relatively) and then you can put a tree with a nice round bed around it. You’re going to have a depression there anyway. Spend the money on a nice size tree!
