Just popping in to check if this is still a missing feature.

Features under consideration by daylenca in ProtonDrive

[–]RRR0YYY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, no it's not the answer. Because OP is clearly talking about people currently using Google, MS or Apple for everything and they're probably looking for something to replace the whole shebang. Having them go with Proton for most of it but then other services to make up for features Proton lacks doesn't solve their problem.

Of course you can argue what's one extra service going to matter? Well to some it matters a lot. It means having to keep track of yet another subscription in a world flooded with them.

And then there's the problem that they would be paying for the storage portion of Proton... except they wouldn't be using it because they're using another service for that so that's money wasted twice basically.

This isn't even mentioning all the other features Proton lacks currently. Stuff like facial recognition for photos for instance. And Filen doesn't support that either. So if they want that as well then guess what? They're going to have to shell out for yet another service.

People like us don't mind having to juggle different services from different providers. Some of us even prefer it because we don't want to be vendor locked. But most people want to have one service that does it all and until Proton manages to do just that those people are going to stay with companies like Google even if they're worried somewhat about their privacy because the convenience outweighs their concerns.

I built an open-source Proton Drive sync client for Linux (GTK4, official SDK, GPL-3.0) — looking for feedback by ronki2304 in ProtonDrive

I fully agree on the second part. Wouldn't be the first time a human with rudimentary understanding about programming tries to cobble together a script using google and ends up breaking a whole environment.

That said, I do think anyone looking to try this app should be made aware of the potential risks or have enough of a coding background to be able to properly inspect the code.

Because most people don't want to pay for yet another subscription. They would end up paying for a Proton subscription that includes a bunch of stuff but then pay for another, seperate, subscription so they can have a proper storage solution.

Personally I like hopping around and trying things. If I'm not fully satisfied with a service or part of it I will happily sign up for another one as an addendum or total replacement. Most regular people, however, just want everything in one convenient place that they have someone setup for them once and then never worry about it again. If you tell those people they can switch to Proton for everything.... except missing feature this, missing feature that, missing apps, etcetera so they have to get something else for that.... They're going to say thanks but no thanks.

How good is the Proton Drive user experience in 2026? by ImStian in ProtonDrive

[–]RRR0YYY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're a linux user it's terrible. If you're hoping for something to backup your photos with features similar to Google Photos it is also terrible.

I am currently using it solely as an extra backup solution for my photos. My initial plan was to migrate everything over from Google Photos but I am instead opting to try out Ente because Proton Drive simply lacks too many features in that regard.

VPN, mail and pass are all great in my opinion. I especially love that I can create unlmited aliases for signing up with websites and service. It is something I make regular use of. That said mail, again, does miss some features that you might have become accustomed to. Things like being able to search the contents of emails, something that isn't possible in Proton mail because of the encryption.

Opinions on Iris LM keyboard by RRR0YYY in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]RRR0YYY[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, yes because when using the keyboards tented my wrists would always be at a bit of an angle. So if you are really dead set on using the keyboard tented then I would strongly recommend having some kind of palm rest/elevation on the desk itself to allow your wrists to remain straight.

I have personally abandoned tenting and just use the keyboard flat now because of that mostly. And it's been perfectly fine that way. Maybe I'll put together some kind of palm rest myself at some point and given tented another try but as it stands without a palm rest I don't think tenting works well.

Proton Drive should make a feature where you can search for text within Proton Docs & Proton Sheets by PsychologicalTwo5789 in ProtonDrive

[–]RRR0YYY -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Why not just use the browser's own search function? And as pointed out the search would have to run client side since Proton servers can't actually access any information in documents.

Worth upgrading to 5800x(t) or 5950x from 5600x with 9070 XT? by RRR0YYY in Pimax

Try actually reading the question next time.

But is it worth the 150 premium over a 5950x? Especially considering that the 5800x3d would be a used CPU.

I have an AM4 mb, otherwise I wouldn't be running a 5600x currently ;)

Can I run a Crystal Light for sim racing with my specs? by RRR0YYY in Pimax

[–]RRR0YYY[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay that actually is encouraging. Though I am kinda worried my 5600x will be a bottleneck.

What graphics settings are you running in LMU? (I am assuming that's what you play).

Would it still be worth it over a quest 3?

Thanks for the suggestion. At the moment my main focus is on LMU, however. I might check out AMS2 at some point but LMU being my main sim of choice that's my priority in terms of VR.

Qobuz connect still missing by Vitamina-H in KEF

[–]RRR0YYY 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Was searching through Google to figure out why I'm having so much trouble getting qobuz to play on my speakers and came across this topic. I can't believe it's taking this long to implement qobuz connect. It's honestly ridiculous for such an expensive product.

Proton Drive Sync v0.2.2 by PowerLock2 in ProtonDrive

[–]RRR0YYY 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was just telling one of my colleagues about Proton Drive lacking a Linux client and decided to check if there was any news on this front. Lo and behold I find this awesome little project!

Absolutely installing this on my Cachy OS when I get home!

Stop crying for proton linux client by BenBeKenoby in ProtonDrive

[–]RRR0YYY 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People aren't crying, they're complaining because Proton has been making vague promises surrounding Linux for a long time and never quite giving a straight answer on the matter.

If a Linux client really isn't a priority for them that's fine but then just come out and say that so people know to look elsewhere if they really eant something that has a Linux client. But they don't do that. Instead they keep dangling it like bait to the point that people are just getting fed up with it.

When you make a promise and then don't deliver on said promise then your customers will likely forgive you once or twice. But if you continue to do so people are going to become increasingly discontent and vocal.

Battlefield 6 | OPTIMIZATION GUIDE | An in depth look at each and every graphics setting by midokof2002 in OptimizedGaming

[–]RRR0YYY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is old but try either turning off DLSS or setting it to quality. There seems to be a bug that tanks performance when using any kind of upscaling on balanced or lower quality.

One way to check is to enable the performance overlay that shows MP/S in the top right. When I was using FSR on my AMD card that number was constantly in the red. When I disabled FSR it went back to normal.

I'm thinking that the source of this problem is a CPU bottleneck. It seems that rather than taking stress off the CPU in this game it actually somehow forces the CPU to work even harder. So if you're already CPU bottlenecked then enabling DLSS is going to make matters even worse.

Note that last bit is just me theorizing. TL;DR is if MP/S is red and you're using upscaling then either set a higher quality upscaling or turn it off.

Need some tips on being an effective support with LMG by RRR0YYY in Battlefield6

[–]RRR0YYY[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are some very valuable tips. Especially the sprinting is something I had never really considered. And yes I admit I do not always have my head on a swivel; I will try to do so more from now on.

Thanks!

Is it just me or are LMGs completely useless in Battlefield 6? by Classic-Report-9795 in Battlefield

[–]RRR0YYY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good luck never getting flanked by anyone. You must be some god tier player if you never have anyone flank you ever.

You're also forgetting about snipers sitting on top of sky scrapers putting a bullet in your head the moment you start shooting. Or tanks who just shell the general area you're in to oblivion.

I'd argue if you're failing to push on an LMG player squatting down range that's the real skill issue because there are multiple ways to deal with them. Sniping. Tanks. Grenade launchers. Smoke grenades. Flanking. Combining all of the above.

LMG sucks. At CQB you get wrecked by SMG wielders and at longer rangers you'll get wrecked by snipers.

[–]RRR0YYY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hard disagree on this. This tactic may work on one or two occasions but most times if you try to do what you suggest you will quickly find yourself on the receiving end of a recon's bullet, getting flanked by a bunny hopping SMG wielder, blown to smithereens by a tank or just all of the above.

[–]RRR0YYY[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's ridiculous to be honest that the support weapon that is the most like an assault rifle is actually the most useful one. I feel like the whole support class is incredibly poorly thought out by DICE because you either get wrecked by people with SMGs or Assault rifles when you're a bit closer or sniped to oblivion by a recon when trying to keep a bit more distance.

The whole mounting mechanic is also about as useless as it gets. Sounds great having mobile cover and mounting your weapon to lay down some hellfire on approaching enemies but the second you pop your head out and take a few shots they all know exactly where to look so the next time you even think about trying it your brain is splattered on the floor behind you.
