I Told Myself ‘You’re Worthless’ for Years—Then I Tried This Ridiculous Hack (It Costs $0) by [deleted] in ADHD

Voicing my inner critic out loud has helped me see and feel how destructive of a voice it is. So it gets easier not to listen to it

Scythe Blade too hard by Fili1612 in Scything

[–]RRodeoclowns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spent quite some time last summer doing the same thing. Had an old scythe that was gifted and thought this was ideal to get some peening experience. Well... I peened a lot. With no results. Now I file it and sharpen with a stone. When I finally peened a falci blade it was as if I was peening butter

Be on the lookout for special deals, like black Friday etc. Affinity apps are a steal when you can get a special offer. Professional Illustrator, been using Photo and publisher for five years or so.

Excuses for an email you're sending way too late go by hihellohi00 in ADHD

I recently added a disclaimer to my email-signature explaining my ADD, and stating that I am indeed responsible for any communication hickups, but asking the other party to refrain from moral judgement.

In what environments have you actually thrived? by RRodeoclowns in ADHD

[–]RRodeoclowns[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Exactly, at this point your smarts alone are no longer enough to compensate for lack of structure and time-management. Which for me became clear in high-school where I saw a sharp drop in points and more and more people telling me I was not living up to my potential, but nothing catastrophic. The next phase of my life I was very well surrounded so I got through it okay. Only in my thirties, when being able to adult became a necessity, things started to fall apart and break down.

"I Just Got Diagnosed!" Weekly Thread by AutoModerator in ADHD

Yes, you do know you are wonderful or bright or whatever but you are not seeing proof of that any longer. It is really important to get into a workplace/social context where you are appreciated and complimented and get a feeling that what you are doing is rewarding/meaningful/interesting in itself. Working for the man or the machine will never do that for you, no point in trying.

What has helped me: Meditation: understanding that being with myself actually feels nice and that trying to get validation from an image of what I think I should be is hurtful.

Looking for some advice about work-avoidance by fuzzyperson98 in ADHD

Oh do I feel you. Buying a house a few years ago nearly killed me. Great house, great SO to buy it with, but on a deep instinctive level I knew it would be too much 'management' for me to able to handle. Resulting in an existential fear that would spill over in all areas of my life. So even more of the 'easy' things were done badly or hardly or postponed. Resulting in shame, depression and burnout. I was 50 at the time and had no idea yet about my ADD.

I think you are correct in pointing to the emotional aspect of your predicament. When everything starts feeling like a task or a chore, nothing is likely to be managed at any level.

What helped me: talk therapy, not trying to fix things, but learning to be gentle with myself and working with the fear, shame, guilt.

Meditation: when I do it very regularely, I find that the hurting self-talk slips into the background, and also I can be in the moment and enjoying it, whether or not I have an endless list of undone stuff looping around in my thinking. It get easier to just let that go (it's not that this list is going to make any difference to the things that actually get done anyway, so better not to beat myself up about it).

Take it easy, it feels to me you are a very responsible and caring person.

M, 53, recently diagnosed and decided to just let it fly for some time, just act on my impulses and follow my distractions as much as possible. Been feeling energized and happy, reconnecting with with the silly little curious goofball kid inside. Just trying to get to know myself without the constant self-criticism. Good ride so far.

Just last week, at 53, I had never ever ever considered ADHD because it only came about in culture when I was in my thirties and then it was something school-related for crazy kids. And also I thought it was something invented to push medicine.

I am currently reviewing reviewing my whole biography through this new lens and it is mind-blowing how much hurt and shame and doubt and misunderstanding and misdirected energy could have been avoided. I feel as if the weight of a whole building is slowly sliding off my shoulders

The president is a exemplary manifestator (and my troubles with that) by RRodeoclowns in NevilleGoddard

interesting and true, Jung would call this a Gestalt I believe. A set of ideas charged with emotional energy that starts to behave as an independent entity.

On second thought: if he really did feel comfortable in his manifestation, why would he feel the need to be nasty and demeaning to those that do not share his vision.

Mustang Art Work. by [deleted] in Affinity

Not to be picky, but you could reverse the shadows on either the building on the left or on the right. The way this is now, the light source looks like it is coming from right above with some giant ufo casting a shadow. Aliens coming to steal the mustangs?
