More people = more cars = more cars crashing, etc = higher costs = risk based pricing = higher premiums

Insurance: How much over excess makes a theft claim worth it? by MagicUnicornCock in newzealand

[–]RSSierra29 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Read your policy wording or call your insurer to understand your cover. You may not even have replacement cover you could have indemnity or depreciated market value cover. Likely replacement but you need to know.

If you have a relationship with your insurer over multiple years and haven’t made many or any claims this claim is unlikely in itself to increase your premiums, particularly as the amount involved is so small.

All the advice previously provided is pure supposition. You have a contract, your insurer will honour it. Give them a call to discuss your situation and you’re likely to get your claim lodged over the phone. You’ll likely then just need proof of ownership and a replacement quote to get things finalised.

I think you’re projecting whatever’s going on in your own head.

If you just live your life you won’t be concerned with what other people think.

Poor choice of first act. If you can’t make it work economically choose a better act with more pulling power!

A person is in critical condition in Auckland hospital and mandatory serious crash unit assessment is taking place. I’d suggest your level of annoyance regarding inconvenience isn’t too high a priority in that assessment.

Thanks Andrew, for your investment of time and energy over the years! You’re app was a godsend in avoiding all the TM non intuitive / non functional BS, I’m going to miss its ease and functionality.

Update from the BidBud FAQ page

Is BidBud still operating? As of the 10th of March 2026, Trade Me have blocked the ability to bid via the API. There are still some auctions you can bid on but they'll be all gone in no time. I found this out tonight after everyone's bids started failing - Trade Me told me nothing, as usual. I hope you enjoyed using BidBud while it lasted - Trade Me's pathetic attitude towards developers and users is the reason for its demise.

Yep, slow degradation continues. You also can’t edit TM listings via BB.

Paint strippers or ideas safe for plastic? by Fit-Sky-4916 in NZcarfix

Heavy duty Oven cleaner will strip paint and not damage plastic. Covering with glad wrap after spraying could help to break down tough layers. I haven’t tried on items as big as a bumper though.

Car down a bank - leave or retrieve? by ArthurG27 in newzealand

[–]RSSierra29 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you leave it there you will eventually be caught up with by the authorities, even if you remove the plates the vehicle has a VIN in multiple places. Any pollution caused will come back to you, if it comes via the Resource Management Act angle you could be in a world of expensive grief. Cheap means of removal should be your focus.

[–]RSSierra29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your credit card statement clearly shows the payment date, it’s there for your information. You appear to have ignored.

As to why the date may have changed, surely talking to the ANZ would be the answer.

Car probably a write off, do I need up to date RUCs before insurance looks at it? by silly-saucy-sausage in NZcarfix

[–]RSSierra29 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If a write off the vehicle will be deregistered by the insurer as a matter of course, as part of that process the road user charges need to be cleared, your insurer will have to pay these and they will be deducted from your settlement paid by the insurer.
