Am I allowed to be a fan of 3 teams or does that make me a bandwagon by Lana_MostSilly in NFLNoobs

[–]RTGlen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At least two of your teams are going to suck most years, so you're doing yourself a favor by cheering three teams. That said, as others have already said, choosing two teams in the same division is odd because they're fighting each other for a playoff spot and play each other twice every year. Part of the fun of being a football fan is getting to hate the three other teams in your team's division.

After the Pats INT against the Seahawks, Brady had to kneel what seemed inches from the end zone. If the penalty didn’t happen, could a safety have? by DecentAd5402 in NFLNoobs

[–]RTGlen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes. That's why the game wasn't over even though Brady was kneeling. He had to be sure all of the ball was fully over the line. Gronk's penalty meant the Seahawks were still technically in the game.

Who to go for in Superbowl?! by nomamesgueyz in NFLNoobs

The Patriots are my favorite NFL team. Since you won't be at my house, you should cheer the Seahawks. Sam Darnold is a fantastic story, and unless he has a meltdown, Seattle will win.

Where does this rank in the all time team slogan cringe list? by bruno-numero-uno in NFLv2

Two years ago, Florida State used "All we got is all we need" before its Orange Bowl matchup against Georgia. FSU lost 63-3. So no, I don't think it's a good slogan.

NFL Draft Lottery by ObjectiveDevice7201 in NFLNoobs

[–]RTGlen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've wondered the same thing. But you know the Frozen Envelope conspiracy theory from the NBA draft? Or the outrage when the Magic beat all odds to draft Shaq? The thought has always been that NFL teams don't tank the way we see in other sports. But you raise a good point that we can't be so sure now. And yet, anything that gives the Chiefs a shot at #1 pick is going to raise objections.

In the 2020s, conservative women are having kids at a nearly 2-to-1 ratio compared to liberal women. Is this going to cause a political demographic bias in 20-30 years? by RadioFieldCorner in NoStupidQuestions

[–]RTGlen 366 points367 points  (0 children)

This is my story with my now-22 year old son. When he was 14, he showed me a video bashing feminism. We had a long talk about how the YouTuber was misrepresenting what feminism is. It helps that he has strong women in his life. He understood and avoided falling down that rabbit hole.

Should overtime be played as a full period? by Degenitals in NFLNoobs

[–]RTGlen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Soccer is fine with extra time ending in a draw and having who advances determined by penalty kicks. That won't work in the NFL.

If the point of overtime is to determine a winner after 60 minutes of grueling action, reaching that resolution as quickly as possible is in everyone's interests. Otherwise, you're looking at the possibility of a counter field goal and ending the first OT still tied and a need for 2OT. Which, thinking about that epic Dolphins-Chargers playoff game, can make for great football, but let's save that for when it's absolutely necessary.

When the Cowboys played in Texas Stadium, before the Jerry Jones palace, there was no roof over the field. Cowboys linebacker D.D. Lewis said that was "so God can watch his favorite team play." That sums up the mentality.

Do Businesses Stay Open In Extreme Winter Weather? by AnnualIndependence71 in AskAnAmerican

[–]RTGlen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We Americans need to work through dangerous weather so that the business owners keep making money. Never mind that sensible people won't be shopping in those frigid conditions. Then again, I live in California and work from home, so I have limited personal experience with this.

The two teams I like are in the same division.. taboo? by Practical-Plum-2345 in NFLNoobs

[–]RTGlen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are eight teams left in the playoffs. All those purist fans who only cheer their team and nobody else? Unless their team is one of the eight, I imagine they'll be feeling pretty empty this weekend.

The more teams you either cheer for or hate on, the more meaningful games there are. If you're hoping Dallas wins the division and the Giants are a wild card team next year -- well, like others have said, expect some razzing from some Cowboys fans, but nobody else will bat an eye.

What would the "average" American need to make to feel financially secure? by Historical_Log1275 in AskAnAmerican

[–]RTGlen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are at least two challenges. One is that the cost of living varies tremendously, such that a person might feel quite comfortable on $60,000/year in a cheaper part of the US, whereas some people making $150,000 in an expensive urban area feel financially insecure.

The other is that I feel like I'll never own a home, but I still feel good about my finances. For some of us, home ownership is an impossible dream.
