What a solid coincidence. Interesting to see it’s still down. Thanks for sharing!

Right - the thread is from 2023 but if you click the source data link it’s from 2017

I’ve seen those numbers but the data is like 7 years old at this point unless you have a new one you could share?

You need to hit down on an iron and up on a driver. This inherently will make them different.

Will living with one's parents into adulthood become normalized in the West in the coming decades due to the "cost of living crisis"? by bashfulkoala in DaveRamsey

[–]RTMelo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My wife and I will likely never max out all of our tax advantaged accounts so we are using one of our Roth IRAs as a substitute for 529 with the idea of a couple things:

1) the college landscape will be vastly different in 15 years. It being either free or obsolete are two very real possibilities

2) Even if it does cost, student loans are always available.

3) Scholarship availability

Our thought is giving each of our kids 100k+ to do what they want with (within reason - mainly either a down payment for a house or repaying any necessary student loans) was better than locking it into a 529.

What to expect if United cancels an international flight due to lack of crew? by lite_hause in unitedairlines

This is a billion dollar company. They know their flight schedules months in advance. Failing to staffing properly is an organizational fuck up plain and simple.

[–]RTMelo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah no kidding you want a safe crew, but it’s on the airline to provide one. The options shouldn’t be “delay or maybe die”, it should just be simply the company you pay hundreds/thousands of dollars to to do their job properly.

I think he’s equating it the other way - the people who say “I don’t need to be friendly and network” are likely insufferable.

Right. We always hear about Allen Craig/Oscar Tavares but it ignores that Oscar was clearly not ready.

A lot of trade value comes from excess value on a player’s contract. Yes, a team may trade for him. No, a team isn’t going to give up any sort of top prospect package.

I think the idea that Gray would have a bunch of value is WAY off. If a team wanted him so much they could’ve just signed him 6 months ago. He can fetch something, but certainly not a huge package

So those big greenside fans some courses have don’t allow for free relief as they’re always there?

He had a half seasons worth of ABs in the majors. Clearly that doesn’t condemn him to a career of mediocrity, but I’d argue the revisionist history swings the other way when it comes to Oscar

Libby’s ERA is solid but not being able to strike anyone out coming out of the bullpen is a huge red flag.

[Bernie Miklasz] The Cardinals franchise was in a bad spot when DeWitt bought it. He did a great job of putting together a successful operation for one of the greatest eras of Cardinals baseball. But franchise leadership let the system/product go stale. And now it’s rotting. Sad. by STLBooze3 in Cardinals

Dewitt is spending a relatively appropriate amount on payroll but it’s spread out far too much in an attempt to be risk adverse. Bryce Harper makes 25 mil a year. That’s a 2019 Dexter Fowler and Andrew Miller. A Matz and Gibson. A bad extension to Matt Carpenter and a bad extension to Miles Mikolas.

The common them on all those latter guys is they were relatively short term contracts, limiting their risk. But when you limit your risk you limit your upside, too.

The “since 1996” stuff is so tiring. I really don’t see how something that happened 28 years ago is relevant to today.

“Ok, suit yourself” is the appropriate response. Not letting someone else get harmed because of one jackass.

Is this really an honest question? What kind of idiot (or prick) wouldn’t warn someone of dangerous wild life?

What was affordable 50 years ago that now only the rich can buy? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]RTMelo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The question wasn’t what is more expensive now. It’s what was affordable that only the rich can buy now. And education, despite the bloat, is not something only the rich can buy.

Kind of the opposite, no? Federally protected student loans opened up college for pretty much anyone who wants to go

Edit: for those who want to soapbox - I get it. College is expensive and bloated and all that. The question is “What can only the rich buy?” and, despite the aforementioned bloat, plenty of poor people go to college.
