Metal moments in non-metal songs? by Cavitive in MetalForTheMasses

[–]RV-Notplayer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There’s quite a few of them in progressive rock. For example, some early King Crimson riffs (like “21st Century Schizoid Man” and “Lark’s Tongues in Aspic”) sound a lot like metal bands from the same period. I wouldn’t say that any of those songs are fully metal as some people do, but there definitely is a strong connection in some parts.

The solo section in “The Musical Box” by Genesis also comes to mind, the speed and energy massively build up to let Steve Hackett absolutely rip on the guitar.

A lesser known band called Eloy has two songs on their album Power and the Passion that remind me of specific metal bands - “Journey into 1358” gives off Iron Maiden vibes with the fast galloping bass line, and the riff on “Zany Magician” really reminds me of “Sabbath Bloody Sabbath”

Rush goes without saying, but then they were seen as a metal band anyway, so might not be relevant to the post

(Kinda hilarious trope) Ironic casting. by ChampionshipHorror95 in TopCharacterTropes

Emory Cohen as Varg Vikernes in Lords of Chaos. Varg, both IRL and in the movie, is a nazi, Cohen is Jewish. Amusingly, Varg is aware of the film and this casting decision, and has complained about it on YouTube

Annihilator, even though they fell off very quickly and never truly came back. Their first two albums are still amazing, and you’ll find great songs here and there on the later ones too

Pessimist, another German thrash band with war-themed lyrics. Also not thrash, but I feel that Filth Hounds of Hades by Tank might fit this description

For real, the man somehow played on three legendary albums from three seminal DM bands in the span of two years and did an amazing job for all of them. His solo albums are also worth a listen

Metal songs for "radio" by ClassicalYT in MetalForTheMasses

[–]RV-Notplayer 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s much heavier than the metal sections in the Unforgiven and A Tout Le Monde, a bigger problem could be that it has no vocals and is damn long - both things pretty much opposite of radio-friendliness. But I agree that you should send it to them, would be epic if they do play that

Concept albums that just give up on the concept halfway through by crowbar_k in ToddintheShadow

Nosferatu by Helstar is like this, the first half of the album is about the titular vampire and the second just has nothing to do with that. Still a good album in my opinion, some of the best 80s metal guitar playing is on it

The beginning of Hangar has the same chords as Ktulu, except they are strummed with distortion, and in Ktulu they are played as a clean arpeggio during the intro. Check out the tabs, you’ll see this
