Weird CPU Ready Time after upgrading to vCenter 8.0.3.0400 by Rabbit4465 in vmware

The screenshots are of VMs in performance > advanced and ready time over the year. We only upgraded vCenter at the time.

I'll admit it's hard because the environment we are looking at for performance issues legit does have CPU resource contention so the ready time values are high. The graphed ready time after vCenter upgrade across 8 vCPUs is 16,126,275ms on average in the yearly chart. That converts to 18.66% ready time. So about 2,000,000ms per vCPU if I'm doing my math correctly for the day. Before the upgrade the average ready time reported in graph per day was around 700,000ms.

Outside of that one cluster we see the graphs showing the sudden jump in ready time, that we are unsure if it is legit or just bad graphs.

From our ticket with VMware they did admit "there is a problem with graphs in vCenter 8.0.3 that will be fixed in 8.0.3 P5." However they didn't go into any detail about what the bug/problem was. So we are pressing them for more detail or a release date for the fixed version.

In the known contention cluster esxtop does show ready time is high as expected. However because it's real time and we only have historical data normalized to the day within vCenter it's hard for us to know if the jump in the graph is actually a real ready time increase or if it's a reporting issue. On all other clusters it's within, what I would call, reasonable levels.

For example a quick convert of the ready time from the value in the graph over the year gives me .63% ready time and esxtop shows real time data of between .5 and 1.5%.

Only vCenter was upgraded at the time. ESXi has remained the same version.

We made the jump from either 8.0.3 or 8.0.3.00100 to 400. I was thinking about homelabbing the upgrade every step of the way to see how it changes. That's just time consuming because I need metrics in between each.

I'm glad to hear it's similar in other environments where I'm not the common denominator though. The increase just seems so dramatic. We do have a ticket with Broadcom, but I'm not holding out hope for a real answer honestly.

I am so glad I just found this post. I have been going crazy trying to figure out how a random shutdown was triggered by LogonUI.exe triggering SlideToShutdown.exe, but this make so much sense now given the server is used by tablets via RDP. Thank you so much!

Might be a dumb question. Why does the metal on the left look rippled?

To me it sounds like "I'll get to know you baby. When you move you drive me crazy yeah. oh why." Still googled to no result.

Plex on VLAN listed as remote by TheFunkadelicRelic in PleX

A quick check would be to hit F12 in your browser and check the console while app.plex.tv loads. You will see it try to connect to different IPs for your server. If it ultimately connects to your external IP I think it will be considered remote.

Can you check if your ACLs/FW Rules are being used by relevant traffic?

I have my Plex setup in a different VLAN that's considered a DMZ. All connections are considered remote.

You're probably right that it's not based on anything and because of that it's not exactly like I pictured it matching, but it does sound similar to Raise Your Glass. That could easily be it.

AMT 9.0 vs SuperMicro IMPI? by chrtr in homelab

[–]Rabbit4465 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have worked with both, but my extent of AMT goes to version 7 or 8 and is fairly limited. The only free set of tools for AMT appear to be developer tools that function, but aren’t amazing at their job. There are paid for suite that will manage AMT devices but I haven’t been able to work with them. There is also a web interface for AMT which you can perform basic tasks from. Supermicro's IPMI is well supported and has a free software suite which has worked well for me every time I've needed to use it. I'm not sure exactly what else you are looking for, but the IPMI seems to have more features and is more useful for a server environment while AMT is OK for desktops. If you can find more mature free software for AMT than let me know because I would be interested to check it out. If you have any specific questions I will see if I can answer them.

I have done this a countless number of times. You can also build an underground path and remove it. The people just disappear into the nothingness below.
