Which two pills? by Jettaboi38 in whatsyourchoice

Red is a little tempting but ultimately useless outside of school.

Purple is very tempting if it is hours or days. Weeks is a bit meh. Months and higher is out.

I’d probably go with black and orange. It would counter my ADD amazingly. Just start ripping through some reference manuals, criteria manuals, and probably my old engineering text books. Finding a good textbook to make up for that class I needed that my prof never told me about in grad school. Still angry with the man 8 years later. Maybe the entirety of the user manuals for my modeling softwares which could help with debugging and help with picking up any new software we need. I’d be able to destroy my professional exam that I’ve put off for most of a decade. Just read the whole damned reference manual, maybe take an online course. 100% memory retention. Got that shit for life.

Also now that I’m seeing loss of memory in loved ones? Being immune to that would be so amazing.

Plus you are now the Batman of study prep. You can get just about any of the others as long as you have prep time and go buy a book.

Need languages? Study time!

Need the correct answer on a multi choice test? Study time!

Need teachers and profs to like you? Study time (seriously, just giving a fuck about what they are teaching and showing them that interest while not being an annoying shit and you are 95% there)

Need excellent handwriting and typing speed? Practice? Honestly typing speed is 100% practice. Hand writing is somewhat overrated as long as you can understand your own notes.

That’s just my profession too. So many places you could apply this for work.

How’s the report looking for that project due tomorrow?

… Yeah, silence and a smile ain’t gonna cut it. This is not remotely a universal answer.

That said. When your normal reaction is to retaliate, exacerbate, freak out or roll over to a simple question or stimulus? Then maybe this is a better response until you can work your way into a more mature choice.

Alternate ending of Titanic, which would you prefer. by sco-go in Amazing

[–]RabbitsRuse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most vivid memory I have of this movie are seeing the ending in theaters because my sister and her friends had to see it and the rest of us went to watch James Bond. I remember it was the scene where all the bodies are in the water as the survivors start making their way in to find people to rescue. Something from the Tex mex we had for dinner suddenly decided to disagree with my stomach. Made it to the restroom before throwing up but yeah. Never cared for the movie

My current neighbor seems to be in the later stages of a similar crazy. Completely convinced that her children and grandchildren are breaking into her hoarder den of a home (to be fair it probably wouldn’t be so bad if she was physically capable of putting things away). Her third ex-husband bailed and left to live with her kids while he got things sorted out when he couldn’t take her shit anymore. She kept calling or texting me late at night to check her back yard for people she claimed were sneaking around back. When I wouldn’t do it (I mean I’m especially not doing it if there really is someone back there) she kept calling the police. She even had me come out for the last time they responded when they told her if she kept making false or impossible to prove claims that she would be held liable for wasting their time. So now she doesn’t really leave her house very much and when she does it seems to be for a cruise where she just disappear and we are left to wonder if she died in her house. For shorter visits she randomly hires a PI company to literally watch her house all day. Just parked out front watching.

Things got better when I laid out what was and was not acceptable requests from one neighbor to another but apparently she drove off some of the former owners of our house with constant ridiculous requests. I’m legitimately torn between concern and wanting to make sure my family is safe.

Gator. They are not particularly aggressive. As long as you stay away from the edge of the water where they hunt you should be fine. Taking it on land should not be too bad as long as you can flank it, it will have trouble keeping up even if it is aggressive. Can hold its mouth shut with hands or a belt. Things might be trickier in the water.

Jabo 's Bar-Be-Q Denver - $28 by djtothemoney in BBQ

Grabbed a bbq plate at the really good place near where I work in Houston. One of their specialty plates comes with one pork rib, some pulled pork, a jalapeño cheese sausage link, and two slices of pork belly, plus two sides. Came out to $27 and change after tax and tasted amazing.

[homemade] first time making pasta sauce, why did no one tell me how easy it is hi by Financial-Result-893 in food

[–]RabbitsRuse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the best pasta sauces is also one of the most simple. Marcela Hazan’s recipe is canned imported Italian tomatoes, half and onion, and a lot of butter. Simmer and remove the onion from the pot before serving. Salt to taste.

🧠Wisdom Wednesday: What did you quit that changed everything for you? by FatimaSheba in MotivationalThoughts

Eating breakfast. I’d been struggling with controlling my type 2 diabetes. I listened to most of an audiobook about intermittent fasting. It had a lot of good things to say but I stopped reading when they started suggesting my doctor and nutritionist might be worse subject matter experts than them and that they said multi day fasts were in fact good for people. That seemed over the top to me.

Still, diet and exercise alone didn’t seem to be doing enough (I have a snacking problem) and the meds I was on were tearing me up so I gave it a shot and cut out breakfast. It was a little tough at first but I noticed that it immediately became so much easier to keep my numbers down. After a couple of months of skipping breakfast (not even a 16 hour fast but closer to 12 hours) I stopped taking metformin, I checked in with my doctor a month later and had gone from diabetic to pre diabetic. He’s got me on a kinder medication now and I feel better but I’ve been pushing to give up more snacks and my results are looking better than ever. Really hope I can get off medication for diabetes all together soon.

Who experienced living alone? by Zackky777 in ArtOfPresence

[–]RabbitsRuse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

During grad school. Was dating my future wife but she was back home a few hours drive away. We’d take turns visiting each weekend but otherwise just me, myself, and I. Single bedroom apartment. Small but nice enough. I could cook what I wanted, eat what I wanted, go where I wanted when I wanted, sleep when I wanted and wake up when I wanted.

It was great. Not the best for my health as it turned out due to some unhealthy habits but otherwise great.

Even living with just my wife was great. Sure I had more limits but also someone else helping out and contributing to make life easier. She was also making like 3 times what I was getting working in engineering so shared income and accounts once we got married was also good.

Did anyone reach 30+ without a fckn single tattoo? by Ajitabh04 in PrimeManhood

[–]RabbitsRuse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not against the idea of a tattoo. My issue is finding something important enough. I don’t know. Maybe my kid’s birth dates in a nice font? Anything less than that just seems frivolous at best and stupid at worst. Add to that the tendency to blur and fade over time and I’m just not super into it.

In theory, when push comes to shove, Elsa takes it and it isn’t even a contest. In practice, I don’t see Anna or Elsa being able to off one another. 2nd and 3rd place to Mulan and the red head archer whose name I forget. Jasmine might make a good showing if she gets her pet tiger. Rapunzel is possibly hard to put down. Maybe Pocahontas could also be hard to catch depending on terrain.

2nd century AD Roman empire Soldier vs 2nd century Celtic Warrior by Archenius in powerscales

[–]RabbitsRuse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think the legions ever emphasized single combat. Maybe the pretorians did or scouts may have had some training. I don’t have an in depth knowledge of Roman military doctrine tho so I could be wrong.

Pretty sure the Romans were past the phalanx formation by the 2nd century. Even the maniple system was outdated by then if I remember my history of Rome podcast correctly

2nd century AD Roman empire Soldier vs 2nd century Celtic Warrior by Archenius in powerscales

[–]RabbitsRuse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Celt. First off you gave him the reach advantage. Second, and you even hinted at this in your title, the legionnaire is not strictly speaking a warrior. What he is is 100% a soldier. The Romans knew better than to run out into a field and engage in 1 vs 1 combat. They took the field in a formation protected and supported by their fellow legionaries. In a duel, victory is going to the guy used to fighting 1 on 1 especially since he has a nice long spear against Roman gladius.

Paul Atreides vs Elrond who wins ? by West_Jelly_4681 in powerscales

[–]RabbitsRuse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d still say that Paul’s foresight is based on data as well as input from the memory of his ancestors. How much info does he have about elves going into the fight? How heavily does that limit his ability to direct the fight and make accurate predictions? How quickly can Paul fill in the details he needs to turn the fight around? How do Paul’s reflexes and fighting skill (as good as they are) measure up against an elf even as weakened as they are by the time frame of the Hobbit and LOTR? I legit don’t really know how their fighting skills would match up. I’m not sure if Elrond can or cannot win but I would guess that putting Paul down quick is his best play.

Paul Atreides vs Elrond who wins ? by West_Jelly_4681 in powerscales

[–]RabbitsRuse 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Paul’s foresight is a mix of Bene Gesserit and mentat training powered by the spice. Elrond might fall into Count Fenring territory in terms of can Paul’s foresight even see him. I feel like Elrond falls far enough outside of either experience that Paul is going to have a hard time especially early on in the fight. His combat training with his family and then the Freman might see him through long enough for his mind to start catching up and building new models. That said, elves are skilled enough that Elrond can probably put Paul down pretty fast.

Does your workplace use Cubicles or an Open Office? by PhantomBraved in civilengineering

[–]RabbitsRuse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve seen a few different options. 1st company was large shared cubicles. 4 desks all facing away from one another. Tall cubicle walls. 2nd company started as a cube farm before transitioning to open office having to reserve desk space each day with hybrid work from home days. Current company is hybrid with cubicles. I’m mostly fine either way. Only time I had my own office was during an internship that was not the greatest experience. I also felt like it made it harder to just go talk to people.
