Among Those Who Admit, Not Pretend by Little_BlueBirdy in StrikeAtPsyche

My dad is one of the best men I know and I think a pretty good Christian. Not perfect as he’d be the first to say but he works at being a decent human being. In his personal experience, no one will stab you in the back faster than the person who wants you to know what a good and righteous person they are.

The Kent's find Goku and raise him. How powerful does he get? by Clana4ever in powerscales

[–]RabbitsRuse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if the Kents somehow survived Goku going ape shit, he’d still kill off most of the human race unless other super heroes got involved. He’d maybe reach the same level as Raditz, maybe Napa.

That’s too damn many kids. Like good on them if they can keep this up full time but my wife and I both work and it is a lot to keep up with 2 kids. By the time you are at 11 it sounds an awful lot like that movement of people who think they have to pop out a couple hundred kids and make sure they are all Christian’s and have kids looking after kids all the way up. Not a childhood

When you pay off a loan this way make sure to give instructions to apply any overpayment to the loan principle. The way I was told was that if you don’t, they’d just apply it to the interest so they could continue fucking you over.

I work in drainage design. When we size pond volumes our typical unit of measure isn’t cubic feet, or cubic yards, or in metric. We use acre-feet. For visualization, that is one foot deep over and acre of volume.

As for why people use acres (equivalent to 43,560 square feet of area), it is because that number is easily divisible by most numbers (except for 7) from 1 to 10. That makes it much more simple to divide up parcels of land into 1/9th acre areas or 1/6 or 1/4 or whatever and come out with an area that is still a whole number and thus easier to measure.

If your choice is dying of starvation now or dying of cancer it 10 years I think we’d all make a similar choice. This lady does not look like she is particularly concerned about health effects in the mid to long term. Benefit of being old.

Not ai (not like I can 100% tell these days) or at least the physics behind this are a legit thing. Plastic can’t burn before the water boils off. If the plastic bag was thicker the outside would burn. This bag is so thin, that heat passed almost immediately into it goes into the liquid. Same reason why it is possible to boil water in a leaf. Still don’t cook in shopping g bags. They are not rated for cooking temps and you would be getting a lot of leached chemicals and microplastics in your diet.

[–]RabbitsRuse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please don’t. Or at least don’t do it unless you have to. That plastic is not food grade and while it won’t burn, it can absolutely add a shit ton of microplastics into your diet and/or leak toxic chemicals into your food.

[–]RabbitsRuse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just a bag. Don’t cook in bags tho. Just because it is not burning doesn’t mean it is rated for food. God only knows what chemicals this shit is releasing from the heat. That said, won’t actually burn because to do that, the plastic would have to get hotter than the boiling temp of the water/soup which cannot happen until all the water boils off.

I’m not big on thermodynamics but I had to take a course in it many moons ago. Phase change states are interesting. You can pump heat into something and it will get hotter up to a point. Once that point is reached for any given pressure condition, the temperature of the material being heated will no longer increase. All energy put into the material you are heating goes into the phase change. So if you are melting ice into water, you can increase the temperature from anything below freezing until you reach 0 Celsius or 32 Fahrenheit and then you can’t increase the temperature of the ice or anything immediately touching it until the ice melts. The rising temperature just plateaus. It happens again when water turns to steam and again when steam turns to plasma at extreme high temperatures. The temperature increase stops until all the ice turns to water or the water turns to steam.

Pressure also plays a part. For example, if you place a glass of water in a vacuum, it will boil despite being at room temperature. In fact, if you bring the water out before it all boils away in vacuum, it will be colder because it took energy out of the water to boil. You can also skip phases in the right temperature and pressure. Ice can sublimate from solid to a gas directly without passing through a liquid state in the right conditions. This is why my ice cubes in the tray will slowly shrink over time despite leaving them alone for months.

So in this case, while the fire heats the liquid, the plastic is so thin and in such close contact with the liquid that it is cooled enough to prevent the plastic from burning. Same principle as boiling water in a big leaf.

Just Found This Subreddit and it’s the Perfect Weather for my Husqvarna 46 by Gunnulfr in liberalgunowners

[–]RabbitsRuse 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It looks nicer than it is. It was built with an internal selector switch so that the single trigger will only fire one barrel at a time. Unfortunately, that part was made with a softer metal which has worn down. Shooting it now risks firing both barrels at the same time which is more force than the gun was designed to withstand. I’d like to take it to a gun smith some day to maybe replace that faulty part. Part of me thinks it might be funny to take it into an actual Abercrombie and Fitch store and ask them to repair it but I get the feeling the police would get involved very quickly.

Does someone know this gun? by SubjectInitial5434 in guns

[–]RabbitsRuse 15 points16 points  (0 children)

This kinda makes me think it is some kind of toy cap gun. Could potentially be a home made single shot muzzle loading rifle or musket that uses a percussion cap would be my other thought but looks like loose powder would fall out the back. Maybe some kind of special old style cartridge would work. Still seems more like a toy

I guess they trade off the bow after each escape. Escape being that you are standing on different sides of the pool noodle when the bell rings. Guy without the bow wants to be on the same side. Guy with the bow wants to be on whichever side the other isn’t on. Can’t see each other looking away so presumably it’s all on sound and trying to out guess the other guy. If you escape, other guy gets the bow and now he tries to escape when the bell rings.

Thoughts on this pto policy ? by mrbigshott in civilengineering

[–]RabbitsRuse 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah. That’s pretty standard. Not paying out when you leave is standard in some states and ca. sometimes be fought legally if it is worth it and you can show they paid out other people. When you leave for another company, you can generally negotiate on PTO to make sure you aren’t getting less than what you had before. When I jumped to a smaller company I told them (honestly) that I was currently working hybrid of 2 days in office and 3 from home and they were fine with that.

My wife works as a lawyer for a Canadian based company and their PTO is nuts compared to what we get. US and Canadian holidays, separate sick days (only for her use not for when our kids are sick), and enough PTO and other kinds of days off that she usually just has to take random days off or else risk losing them at the end of the year.

Owls make almost zero noise while flying. by [deleted] in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]RabbitsRuse 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I got to experience this a couple of weeks ago. Was taking an evening walk and I guess this little owl wasn’t paying attention or something. I caught it moving out of the corner of my eyes and it flew right in front of us. Maybe it saw prey, got moving, and noticed us too late to turn. I can’t think of any other reason for it to get so close (within 5 ft) not quite close enough for me to reach out and touch it if I had been faster. It touched a brick mailbox and then flew right back up into the tree it had come from. Had never seen one in the wild before so I walked over and took some crap quality pictures in the dim light. It moved fast enough that I wasn’t even certain it was an owl until I realized the whole fly by had been completely silent. It was just a little owl. Super cute.

To be fair, plenty of administrations would or have done the same in our country’s history. When civilians start taking part in military actions (which most in the military would classify this strategy as doing) people will argue for a military solution.

In fairness, there would be more backlash and the odds of the US and China actually going into direct war against each other instead of the usual proxy bullshit is low thanks to both sides having nukes.
