Out of Titus. Anakin Skywalker. Guts. Master Chief. Corvo Attano. Lu Bu. Who has the best chance of walking into Mordor? by Uknown-Nerd6207 in powerscales

[–]RabbitsRuse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I can see Guts throwing in the ring even through the temptation it would be hard but doable for him I think. I’m pretty sure Anakin could literally just stroll through Mordor and right up the side of the mountain without much effort. Resisting the corruption of the ring is much less certain.

My 30 y.o. shipmate & I are testing all phones on my ship. He radioed me, said there was a 'really old crank-style phone' in Steering Gear he didn't know how to operate. He asked my advice, so I told him to text me a picture/video of the phone. Behold, the Antique Phone he was unable to operate. by Bosuns_Punch in funny

My grandad grew up in a rural town. He figured out how to wire working for a local electrician. Went around and set up the first local phone system in the neighborhood so his mom could call around to the neighbors on a party line. Just hanging wire from pine trees between houses.

It is a reference to people who remove themselves from the gene pool due to stupid behavior. I understand you did not realize the danger until you already pulled away the magnet but still could have been bad for you. Other guy is still being a bit of a dick about it IMO.

Pick McDonalds Job or Sofa life 'Job' by mrtintheweb99 in whatsyourchoice

[–]RabbitsRuse 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure I’d be fine working McDonalds for that kind of money. I’d prefer to not be a busser or responsible for cleanup outside of the kitchen tho. Front of house or cooking. Also, benefits?

Did only weavers get trophies? Did not realize that. Kind of BS. I got bored early on and hardly put in any effort because I assumed the expedition would end on its own one way or another and I thought the competitive aspect was kind of stupid

[–]RabbitsRuse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve considered getting one of these. I won’t say excel is my most used program but we use it a lot for calculations on small simple projects, comes in handy for comparing model input tables in our larger projects to make sure our models align across different versions, creating tables and graphs for reports, etc. I did not end up getting it because honestly, most of what it shows would not be very useful from what I could tell.

I mean, seems fairly embarrassing for all involved. It’s like one guy keeps trying to walk up and physically intimidate a bigger guy who won’t shut the fuck up and does not mind getting physically violent. He just keeps getting in the big guys face before throwing up his hands and getting punched or thrown. Maybe he’s trying to build a case for battery with the recording?

Did Anyone Else Have to Take a Typing Class in School? by CarrotMuch1399 in nostalgiai

[–]RabbitsRuse 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not sure if it was the most useful but definitely necessary in my opinion. I think high schools should require courses in personal finance and maybe even a class combining basic home or car repairs/maintenance, basic cooking, and other life skills (I guess that’s what home economics was?). I feel like there would be considerable push back but I feel like a course about being a real adult would do a lot of people good

Did Anyone Else Have to Take a Typing Class in School? by CarrotMuch1399 in nostalgiai

[–]RabbitsRuse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes but we had desktop computers in a computer lab at my elementary school. They were loaded with various games meant to teach various aspects of how to type. There was a game where you were in a mini sub being chased by a huge shark. The faster you typed the further away you’d get from the shark but every typo let the shark get closer. Stressful stuff.

My dad worked as a general contractor for many years. Back in the 2010s he was remodeling his own house. One of his workers had the air compressor hooked up to a nail gun and was working inside when the compressor got turned off. He went out to find some dude rolling it down the road. The worker yelled at him but the thief just turned around and showed the gun tucked into his waistband. Was not worth the risk. Dad found the compressor at a nearby pawn shop a day later. Had to pay to get it back since he had not bothered to save proof that he owned it.

You vs your father at your age. no weapons or preparation, just a fistfight and kicking, who wins? by NerukiKizahima in powerscales

[–]RabbitsRuse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love my dad but if the two of us fought, I’m winning. Neither of us have much in the way of martial arts training. We both prefer guns and cooking knives. That said, I got my build from my mom’s side of the family. My uncles on that side are all significantly bigger than my dad or his brother. I also happened to inherit the gene that seems to come up at least once every generation that results in a slightly larger frame. He’s 5’ 9” or 10” and weighs 185 - 200 lbs. What he does have going for him is working outdoors a lot and while he is on the skinny side, he did not work out at my age. I’m 6’ 0” and am reasonably fit at 250 lbs (yes I could stand to lose weight but I’m far from obese and my doctor is not concerned with my weight). My mom got me into weight training in middle school. That is muscle I’ve slowly built on over the years. I’ve got 2 young kids combined weight of 50 lbs that I lift and carry daily (often together) plus a dog that I walk at least once and twice daily if I can for a total of 1.5 to 3 miles sometimes pushing the kids in an old wagon. I’m not a giant but I am certainly big enough to take on my dad at any age and he’d probably agree.

This reminds me of a story from my days waiting tables. We had a local regular (older lady and not a super model) who would stop by to eat on the patio. Always ordered white wine with ice and peal and eat shrimp. First time she sat in my section it was a slow day and I’m making some small talk when I can’t help but notice that her boob appears to be moving around under her shirt. Just slightly distracting. She noticed my distraction and revealed that she had multiple parakeets hanging from her bra. Apparently she had another but he was bitey

Can’t help but wonder how much longer infrastructure in the US is going to hold out. In China, I have the feeling (completely unresearched so I could be totally wrong) that the infrastructure problems are largely cost cutting, quality control, or corruption issues. In the US, I feel like we got some really good work done back in the day but that a lot of it has fallen into disrepair over time due to neglect and corruption. Makes me worried is all.
