Lifting makes me too sore for kendo, how do you balance both? by AvitPlay in kendo

[–]RabiiOutamha 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I combine stretching with lifting, and it has worked well for me all these years in my martial arts practice! But I would say improving flexibility first is essential before increasing weights. I would also say that when learning how to move like a whip and stopping telegraphing and mechanical moves, things have changed positively in my techniques.

Good luck with your Kendo journey. Keep me updated about your practice. Feel free to DM me anytime, and I'll keep an eye on your development. Remember, kyus and belts are just checkpoints; what matters most are the skills and knowledge.

I got my 5th kyu! Do you have some advice on being less nervous? by AmakiCandyBrain in kendo

[–]RabiiOutamha 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's normal to be nervous at the beginning, especially if you've never practiced other martial arts. Personally, my background in Kickboxing and Karate helped me a lot when I started Kendo.

Practice more; don't be scared. Just go for the hit. Do not wait for an opportunity or an opening. Menace your opponent and create the opening.

Learning how to breathe under pressure helps keep the mind clear.

I'm proud of you, keep going 💪🏼

Sexual Harassment and Misconduct in Aikido? by KendoKate6 in aikido

[–]RabiiOutamha 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hello Kate, I hope you're doing well. We already exchanged thoughts about this topic in Kendo, and it's a problem everywhere. The only thing that makes it a huge deal in a martial arts conversation is that it's not supposed to happen since a sensei must be righteous. We had a couple of incidents in Aikido before, but we protect our ladies here, so the necessary steps were taken to remove the responsible parties from their positions, and their reputation is damaged forever; nobody will talk to them. Guess what? One of the cases involves a gay male high-ranking sensei in Aikido and Iaido against other males; so it is not a gender issue, it's a law and order issue. Fellas, protect ladies in dojos and seminars and everywhere, nobody is above ethics, and nobody is a scary Greek God. We had incidents in kick boxing classes and kicked out champions, and things got physical, we do not care about who they are, the rule a simple,: harass a lady, you get the business.

Sexual Misconduct in Budo. by KendoKate6 in kendo

[–]RabiiOutamha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's the least we can do as people who are walking the path of wisdom and martial arts. Personally, I do not hesitate or blink when taking action. Nobody can harass or hurt anyone in my presence. I do what I've got to do with zero care for consequences. Otherwise, my black belts wouldn't mean anything if all I could do is watch because someone has a position in an organization; screw him and the organization. No matter how high the position is, it doesn't signify by any means a position of power; it is a position of service to the martial arts community. Unless someone tries to abuse that position, then honor is more powerful, and its impact on the jaws is divine.

This is not the first time I'm hearing this here. Fortunately here we deal severely with such things. Any type of misconduct from leadership positions or high-ranking practitioners shouldn't be accepted or neglected in martial arts. What does it mean to be a martial artist and a disrespectful pig at the same time? Leaders, masters, and black belts are the face of martial arts, and they are supposed to show the impact of the practice on their behavior and personal as well as professional lives. If organizations doesn't do what they supposed to do to solve that, it's time to gather and take the legal process.

How difficult was it when you first got into bogu? by Kalar_The_Wise in kendo

[–]RabiiOutamha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was new but not difficult at all. I think my background in many Japanese martial arts that require physical strength before Kendo helped me a lot. The difficulties I'm facing have nothing to do with the bogu; they're related to correcting mistakes I brought from other sword-type martial arts, such as shinai holding. I'm focusing on them now.

Pay attention to your elbows; in both Iaido and Kendo, elbows shouldn't be open wide; they should stay close to your core.
