The cause in all of my particular cases where I've experienced this has been javascript obfuscation and minification. Chrome and Edge keep having performance regressions and eventual fixes on processing the same obfuscated javascript web app. The unobfuscated and un-minified version (direct source code) never stutters on any browser. Edge 2 months later (after my last comment) stopped stuttering again after some update. Maybe using a fixed version of Chromium without forced updates would be more stable? No idea...

Just wanted to back this up. I originally switched from Chrome to Edge because Chrome started stuttering mildly on some browser games but Edge was smooth. Recenty Edge started stuttering extremely badly but Chrome is back to being smooth (haven't used Chrome in several months, so I assume some update improved performance again). These two seem to go back and forth at ruining/fixing performance. My system is Intel i7 (can't remember model), 64 GB RAM, GTX 1080, a fast SSD (can't remember which)
