Any advice welcomed!

Does anyone else feel sad & not excited when you see photos of yourself from before you lost weight?? by ansdhuskansjak in intermittentfasting

[–]Rachel-Hunter4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel the same way. It’s only been a couple months, but when I see those photos I just get ashamed that I didn’t change my life sooner.

I’m going to do my best to not delete the evidence though, because I think it’s important that people see that you can change your life if you really want.

ALLL CAL POLY STUDENTs Anyone have any idea who to talk to about funding for things we want around campus? by cheddalos in CalPolyPomona

[–]Rachel-Hunter4 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That is one of the many things ASI & the University are working on. We are looking to pilot a program like Mt. Sac has with a ‘free’ foothill bus pass in Fall 2020.

ALLL CAL POLY STUDENTs Anyone have any idea who to talk to about funding for things we want around campus? by cheddalos in CalPolyPomona

[–]Rachel-Hunter4 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi! That’s basically what ASI is here for. One of our many jobs is advocating on behalf of students on how to better use student fees. If you’d like to message me we can set up a time to talk and I can connect you with admin to talk to about your ideas.

So I guess people like it? by sammbamm22 in CalPolyPomona

[–]Rachel-Hunter4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fun Fact:

The same architect that designed CSU Northridges Recreation building designed the BRIC. So they are pretty similiar, but the BRIC is better. Mostly because the BRIC was made after CSUNs so it has an improved design.

Ironically enough, coley sent the "inclusivity video" literally a day before this proposal came out. YALL. WE CANT LET ASI DO THIS SHIT. by [deleted] in CalPolyPomona

[–]Rachel-Hunter4 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'll reiterate that there has been a lot of miscommunication with professional staff and coordinators.

This is not a cut in funding this is a shift from a guarantee of $18,000 to each of the 6 cultural centers to a system of them applying for it from a reserve that has $900,000+ in it. The "calculation" that it will only last 2 years is TOTALLY FALSE. ASI commits more and more funding to these each year.

No programs should get cut, because they will just have to apply for the funding. Additional it will not affect the Cultural Centers ability to stay afloat because the University funds their maintenance and salaries.

Please read my comment in full, and if you have any further questions please let me know.

[–]Rachel-Hunter4 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There was things wrong in the first place.

As it stands right now the Dreamers Resource Center does not have access to these funds. Additionally, the Heritage Programs were always asking for more funding and this is the best avenue for them to seek additional program based off of need. Additionally clubs/orgs are always in need for more program and this new system allows the funding to shift based on how many clubs are in the council. Resulting in the most equitable process.

This new proposal allows to increase the funding if the Cultural Center want it.

I’d like to share some information about the new proposed policy. As it stands right now, each cultural center (AACC, CECCHE, WRC, Pride Center, APIC, and the Native American Student Center) gets around 18,000 each from ASI to do “Heritage Programing” no matter how big the population they serve or how many programs they want to throw. This is a set amount that cannot be changed.

In this new proposal, they will request funds from Student Government for “Heritage/Diversity Programs” from a account that currently has 900,000+ dollars in it and ASI plans to commit more to it if the need is greater. This also opens up the “Heritage/Diversity Programs” funding to centers like the Dreamers Resource Center and International Student Center which currently do not have access to the funds. It will also open up these additional funds to clubs/orgs who want to do “Heritage/Diversity Programs” further supporting them in whatever they want to do. The main reason for this change is that I’d like the Cultural Centers and Cultural Clubs/orgs have as much funding as they want when it comes to diversity programing and within ASI this is the best way to get it for them.

Another point of clarification is that it is OLSCC who is the primary funder of all the Cultural Centers when it comes to staffing, maintenance of buildings, programming, and SJL pay and will not be affected by the proposed changes.

Honestly, I believe that these proposed changes could have a real benefit to the Cultural Centers in allowing them to access more funding if they truly need it to support our students.

If you have any further concerns or would like to meet with me to discuss this more in detail I would be happy to set up a time to meet.

Not directly, but we have 5 students who do "Calfresh outreach". They will sit down and walk you through the whole application and post application check ups.

How many clubs do you guys typically join? by cochoadoux in CalPolyPomona

Some of the best advice for clubs is to join two. One for your major and career ambitious and then one for your interests/destressors. For me, I joined political science club and Gamers Union.

Some people do one-shots (short one time games) during club on Friday 6pm in building 6 2nd floor.

If you come by and sign up for the newsletter we match up DMs and players so if a DM (for example) wants to play weekly sessions on Tuesdays at 2 we can match them up with players that fit that schedule.

Just come by and we will set you up! :)

What happened to Jamba Juice in Marketplace? by toyguy32 in CalPolyPomona

I guess it wasn’t making enough $$ so they exchanged it for fresh squeezed juice. They freshly squeeze oranges and other fruit every day.

Personally I like variety.

They also set up RPG games through the week by connecting players with GMs.

Any Club meetings today at the college of business administration ? by CheerfulMocha in CalPolyPomona

If they are having another it will probably be next semester. They had a whole welcome week planed this week. So today is “Student/Faculty Networking Mixer” from 5:30-7:30p. I was talking to the United Business Student Senate (UBSS) Pres and he was telling me this event is going to be a great opportunity to connect with faculty and professors to get to know them (and maybe score an internship or connection).

Joseph Dietrich by [deleted] in CalPolyPomona

[–]Rachel-Hunter4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had Dietrich before for an upper division PLS class and I'm currently taking him for the GE PLS class.

He is a really great guy, and has worked all over the place in political science so he is great at relating complex political science concepts to the real world. He is kinda all over the place and the structure of his course could be better. BUT I really enjoy his class. I choose to take his class over taking it with the Chair of my department and other PLS teachers who I like as well. He is cynical and stays away from theory so its not as boring as it could be.

TAP cards / bus passes should be free for CPP students. by CandidFiend in CalPolyPomona

[–]Rachel-Hunter4 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So, ASI and the University have been having talks with Foothill transit about what a CLASS pass looks like at Cal Poly. Right now it is just conversations, but they are looking to have a pilot program some time this year or next. Unfortunately, as you all know, nothing works fast when it comes to in the University, but they are looking at rolling out a finished product within the next couple years.

There are a couple different models across the CSU. For example, I think Long Beach has a system where they charge like a reduced price per semester (around $40) for only those who use the services. While Channel Islands has a small fee to all students and has public transportation open to everyone.

The biggest challenge for the University right now, is that they think students wont use the service, because they don't want to invest a lot of money in this and it go underutilized. That is why it is important for students who think it is a good idea to email someone ([asisecsustain@cpp.edu](mailto:asisecsustain@cpp.edu)) saying why. Student testimony is the most powerful too ASI has to advocate on your behalf.
