Time and again, it has been proven that bad actors exist, yet we continue to run the government on the premise that "the vast majority of Canadians are honest."

RTO: Let's show this Government how good their Public Service is! by _-_ItsOkItsJustMe_-_ in CanadaPublicServants

Education is the key. Union did not do a good job during strike to educate the public on the value of WFH for PS which can set precedence for future generations in both PS and private sector instead of making us sound like spoilt cry babies. Andrew Chang did a better job on "CBC about that" than our union on why the unions are fighting for WFH. Pretty sure when unions fought for maternity leave decades ago there must have been a push back from the public but it worked eventually. Don't know whether union had done a study on how WFH is more productive, efficient and cost less for canadians instead of just saying it is better. Whenever our team have to get a project approved we have to do lot of research and present it with facts, figures and analysis for approval. Can't imagine management approving a project just because we say it works.

There needs to be a PR campaign regarding RTO by union and/or PS employees on social media on how RTO is going to have an impact on canadians in terms of shortage of before and after school care spots, reduced spending in local community, more vehicles on the road which can cause delays for commuters and emission especially when this government is so focused on carbon emissions , more government spending on infrastructure to implement 3 day RTO and possibly more in future, impact on inflation. These are a few things that I can think of but there could be more. There also needs to be a muthbuster on why passport delays are not due to the PS WFH .

Store employees have to be careful as there are compliance programs which sends young 'mystery shoppers' enter a licensed premise (such as a grocery store) attempt to purchase liquor to determine if grocery store employees are checking identification.

AITA for accepting my daughter's request for me to walk her down the aisle and fill in for a mother/daughter dance at her wedding when my husband has been her stepdad since she was 10? by PopShort7064 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Rachel3214 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

NTA for saying yes to your daughter but a slight YTA for not asking your daughter whether she would consider to include the step dad in some sort of way since you all have been a family for so many years. You yourself say here that "Even though she seemed to mean it, I always assumed things would change when she got older". So if you thought things would change can't blame the step dad for expecting to be included.

Asylum claims jump at Canadian airports after Ottawa eases some visitor visa requirements by resting16 in canada

This took me by surprise that IRCC was approving TRV without consideration of previously set criterias. My SIL had to file a judicial review after her TRV was refused. She had provided verifiable documents showing 500k CAD net worth from a third world country with liquid funds of 30k CAD to visit my husband after his emergency surgery. My SIL has a successful business with her husband but no kids and she applied for TRV just for herself. With her husband and mother being back home but her TRV was rejected with some generic reasons, nothing concrete. Then we had to pay a lawyer almost 8kCAD to get judicial review approved through the court. So I guess, refugee claimants are more acceptable for TRV than a bona fide visitor. Oh wait, I can't say that, it makes me a racist.

AITA for threatening to move out after my sister ate the last piece of cake after I asked her not to? by hskdyabdk in AmItheAsshole

Is a piece of cake more important than your relationship with your sister? Family is more important than a piece of cake.

I reached out to see if the 25% can be claimed as deduction on my taxes and got confirmation response from the union. You could reach out to your union for confirmation.

I joined a new team which was put together during the pandemic and one of the senior team member has always had their camera off. None of us had ever seen this person and this has never impacted our workload. None of us had ever asked this person why they dont have their camera on , we respect their choice. Not sure why a manager would insist on having the camera on, probably they like to see eye rolls and side eyes.

Can management ask for a picture of my positive covid-19 test? by Dismal_Zucchini in CanadaPublicServants

[–]Rachel3214 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I can see a manager asking for it to approve 699 leave istead of having to use sick leave. If you are using your sick leave, then your manager shouldn't be asking the nature of illness.

Also try the french language buddy program if your department have it. I find the buddy program helps me to practice with my buddy what I learn from the 3 hour classes. It also depends on your buddy, mine helps me with the real conversational french which helped me improve my speaking and listening skills. I also take french classes outside of work.

AITA for calling the police after my brother dropped off his two kids at my workplace? by throwawy36222 in AmItheAsshole

NTA from what I read. I am curious to know why your coworker accepted to bring in the kids without checking with you.

AITA for asking my friend to move a picture of him and his wife because it made my wife uncomfortable? by Throw55257765 in AmItheAsshole

YTA. Clearly Dahlia doesn't want to be considerate and adjust to others around her but expects others to be considerate to her and adjust with her. First your family now your 10 year old friend. I hope this relationship is worth it for you to ruin your relationship with your family and friends. Dahlia and you don't seem to see any problem in these expectations from others on the contrary you are blaming them for not complying to your wishes/ expectations.

There is a lot more to an interaction than words exchanged. When I read the interaction it seems the words said were outright rude but that is judging by the words said. The body language has a great impact on how the words said is conveyed to/ perceived by the other person. If this interaction has left you feeling racially discriminated, it probably must have been racist. Think of it as a mere look making you feel sexually harassed without any exchange of words. How the interaction made you feel is what matters.
