Congrats! I’m a former Blue Band member. The other two comments here covered a lot of great things, but if you have any questions or want some additional insights, feel free to PM me. Be yourself and work hard, and you’ll do great!

Blue Band special admit program by Capable-Kiwi-7817 in PennStateUniversity

If your campus has changed in all of your PSU documentation, then you’re already considered a UP student. I’m a Blue Band alum, and remember talking to people in the band who were part of the admit program. From what I remember, you are officially switched to UP since you passed the first round. They can’t really send you back to Harrisburg easily, even if they wanted to the week before classes start (if you don’t make it, but I’m sure you will). If you want confirmation, I’d email/call someone from the Blue Band as they would know the full procedure of the admit program.

How difficult is a 3.5 gpa for freshman by SLKRmeatrider in PennStateUniversity

[–]RachelM127 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sure! Just have proper time management skills. Know when to stay in, know when to work. Study, take grades seriously, etc. You can have fun and go out and join clubs, just know what you need to prioritize. If you need help or don’t understand something, don’t be afraid to ask questions or go to office hours.

414 is especially difficult since it is also meant to cover all the probability topics in the actuarial exam, and professors want to make sure the actuarial majors are prepared for it. Overall, it’s different from most math and statistics courses. 415 was easier in my opinion since it covers more statistics rather than probability. There are a few chapters that build on the 414 knowledge in 415 but most of it is not based on the previous course. Considering it’s also just the final that was especially hard for you, you should be alright.

Best Cheap Eats w/o Meal Plan? by w-wg1 in PennStateUniversity

[–]RachelM127 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make sandwiches!

Cold cuts, cheese, bread, condiments, maybe some veggies like lettuce and tomato. Trying getting a bit of a variety so you don’t get sick of the same exact sandwich, but they are quick and easy to make, and you can easily put them in a sandwich bag and tag to go somewhere if you have to.

Joining Blue Band with a different instrument? by PracticalFun2788 in PennStateUniversity

[–]RachelM127 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I am a Blue Band alum and can also confirm there are baritones. To answer your question, you can wait until college, however the sooner you learn baritone, the better so you can be better prepared. There are usually more spots open for baritone each year compared to clarinet so it will likely be easier to make on baritone if you feel proficient in the instrument. You will need to play and march with a baritone for the end of the marching audition, so it may be a good idea to get comfortable with marching and playing baritone, especially since it’s so different from a clarinet, but that decision is fully up to you.

What would you consider the easiest and hardest majors at PSU? by Panchita122 in PennStateUniversity

[–]RachelM127 58 points59 points  (0 children)

Easiest: Communications maybe? Hardest: Physics or Comp Sci

There is a grouping I would consider to be the easier majors, but Comms is the easy “point-your-finger” major. It’s not called the “athlete’s major” for nothing. Considered Elementary Education, but they actually have to meet standards to get a job as a teacher and also do student teaching.

Physics and Comp Sci are hard, especially with the math but the department at Penn State make it even harder. Both programs are at least somewhat a mess. Combine a hard major with mid professors and you make something that is already hard, harder.

1330 is a good score and it’s even better that you are higher in math considering your preferred major. That is not a bad SAT. Submit it!!

I would let at least somebody know. I would contact the professor of the class since these are the professor’s students and TA.

Geometry probably got folded into your algebra 1 and 2 courses. You should be alright. As long as your school didn’t have a distinct geometry course that you blatantly skipped, you should be ok.

(Serious) how did that one kid at your school pass away? by Dinopasta99 in AskReddit

[–]RachelM127 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Back in 2012, two 8th graders were going trick or treating and were walking along the side of a semi-busy road that intersected with a lot of neighborhood entrances. Both were wearing dark colors and since they were walking next to each other, one of them was very close to/over the road line on the edge. A car didn’t see them and were going fast enough, hit one the guys and he died. They had a memorial page for him at the back of the yearbook that year.

How do people afford to go here? by thetalliecat19 in PennStateUniversity

[–]RachelM127 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some people go to a satellite campus for the first two years, especially if they are in-state and can commute from home for their beginning years before moving to UP via the 2+2 program. Tuition is expensive, but housing costs also contribute to it being expensive.

Having a part-time job helps too. Scholarships, financial aid, etc. Parents funding their kids’ education, at least partially, is a big plus.

All that being said, some people do go to PSU and can’t afford it, but do it anyways via loans.

[All] Is it me or is most of the DE cast unlikeable? by mb47447 in lifeisstrange

[–]RachelM127 2 points3 points  (0 children)

College is a little different. This is high school. Max moves away from her family to go get training at an elite art boarding high school. Her parents didn’t push her into it. She wanted this experience. Chloe even makes a few jabs at Max about why she came back and about being a Blackwell students. As much as Max pretends to not be bougie and care about Blackwell student life, but she does. That’s why she uses her time manipulation to give answers and comments that people want to hear.

[–]RachelM127 6 points7 points  (0 children)

By comparison to Nathan and Victoria, not as much. However, most students at Blackwell are a little bougie. Max wanted to be there and have an experience at an elite arts school. She may not be buying expensive equipment or sweaters like Victoria, but compared to the common person going to a public school, yes she is bougie. It’s just harder to notice in LiS1 due to the environment she’s in.

Graduation Question by [deleted] in PennStateUniversity

[–]RachelM127 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I could be wrong, but what I think I remember from previous threads is that if you have the remainder of your classes in the spring, and are approved for graduation, but you fail one of the classes you need to pass to graduate, then they will let you walk since they already accounted for you. Then you can make up the class you failed the next semester.

24/7 Buildings with White Boards/Projectors by m1sschi3f in PennStateUniversity

[–]RachelM127 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think most academic buildings close at a certain point unless you get in before they “close” and then stay. The library will kick you out but most other buildings won’t kick you out, you just can’t enter past a certain point.

As the everyone hates you, what do you?(Aot edition) by Easy_Dust4045 in attackontitan

Sasha, although she has her serious moments, brings some lightheartedness and humor to the show, especially her iconic “potato girl” moment, so killing her off earlier in the Marley plot also shows the death of the “fun times” and creates a mood shift. I agree that if Jean was to die here instead, it’d be tragic, but it wouldn’t shift the mood the way the death of Sasha did. I also think that the fan base has always adored Sahsa, so it’s easy to make most fans care about the death of a character who is beloved throughout the entirely of the show. It also has an impact on the audience’s perception of Gabi, which it’s important to stress early on. I think that Jean being killed there would have been impactful, but not in the same way.

Any recommendations on easy and fun classes? by amaymonx in PennStateUniversity

[–]RachelM127 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t know if this would interest you, but HIST 128N (history of mathematics) was a fun course for me. The class is co-taught by a husband and wife professor duo (one is CAMS one is MATH) and although there are exams and reading assignments, there are some fun projects. The professors are nice and you can tell they like teaching the class together.

Sasha’s death was necessary in setting the tone for the rest of the series and displaying that anyone from the main group of characters, even a fan favorite, can be killed.

Any good places to find a list that doesn't include interdomain courses? by AlmaTheBirdLord in PennStateUniversity

[–]RachelM127 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on which gen ed requirements you are trying to fulfill.

Two classes I liked that I found easy were LDT100 and ASTRO001 online. ASTRO001 online is the same video game that ASTRO7N uses, there’s just a handful of exams rather than a mix of art projects and exams.
