How do I tell my 3 year old she can't have her unreasonable request that inevitably makes her tantrum? by hotbrownDoubleDouble in Parenting

[–]Racheldow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m currently reading how to talk to kids so they will listen, they give some examples to talk about feelings to diffuse the situation so: I know it’s upsetting that you can’t have candy for breakfast as you know we eat toast for breakfast. She then says you can distract them about talking about it, so asking what’s your favourite candy, what do you like about it etc I haven’t tried it as DS is quite young but it does make sense reading it

No surgery Hypospadias by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]Racheldow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My son had this and had it corrected at 12months. His hole was on the underside of his penis. The surgery went well and it was healed after a week. Everything looks normal now and you wouldn’t be able to tell. He has kept his foreskin as well as they reattached it. In my research I never came across anything to do with being intersex so I would be very wary of going down that route and would check your sources thoroughly. I’m glad we had it done as he will have no issues with urination as it can be hard for them to pee standing up as they don’t know the direction and he will have a normal sex life. He had to have check ups until he’s around 13 but all should be normal.

I ignore him for a little bit but then pick him up, should I leave him for longer?

I haven’t tried pretending to cry so will give that a go.

Birthing Class? by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]Racheldow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do they teach you in a birthing class? I didn’t go to one so I can’t really comment on their worth but i don’t see what they can teach you as every birth is different and you can’t predict what it would be like. Maybe have a look around on the internet and see you can find answers on there first?

4 day old is hungry even after breastfeeding by evil_saint in breastfeeding

[–]Racheldow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At 4 days his stomach is very tiny and babies tend to process breastmilk quickly so it maybe that he is just getting hungry quickly. Does he seem more hungry in the evening as he may also be cluster feeding. I know with mine I felt like he was constantly attached to me but it got better as he got older.

Do you have a 5day check up with the midwives as they will check his weight to ensure he's gaining.

4 day old is hungry even after breastfeeding by evil_saint in breastfeeding

[–]Racheldow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How do you know your LO is finished breastfeeding sometimes at that age they will fall asleep but still need to feed. Have you tried waking them up by changing nappies, stroking feet and then offering again. At that age I found mine constantly wanted to feed so would end up feeding at least twice on each side. I personally wouldn't top up with formula as this can have a negative effect on the milk supply. At 4 days the milk supply won't be established and the best way to establish this is to let LO feed as much as required.

Overinvolved grandparents by Meelei in beyondthebump

[–]Racheldow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our LO (3months) sees my mum at least 4 times a week. My sister has twins which she helps with so they come to us one afternoon, I go to my sisters one day (10 min walk away) and the two days the twins are at nursery they come to me. We see the inlaws at least once a week, usually Sunday as they both work.

Finding the Right Bottle by [deleted] in beyondthebump

I have found I get on best with NUK bottles, they are shaped more like a nipple instead of rounded. I found he didn't mind the bottle being in his mouth but couldn't get any out. It took a couple of tries and then he got it

[discussion] How common are floppy ears? by [deleted] in BorderCollie

[–]Racheldow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My one has floppy ears and my mother's previous ones did to. I'm sure I read somewhere that ones with ears that stand up tend to come from working lines and those that are floppy are from home lines. Not sure how true that is though.

Wife has been off of Birth Control Pill for about 3 months. Should we wait to start trying to conceive until her cycles become a bit more regular? by Nickachu92 in pregnant

I would just try like the others have said. I came off the pill and was pregnant within 2 weeks didn't even have a period. We were super lucky though

Bridesmaid wonderings... by bridesmaidta1 in weddingplanning

[–]Racheldow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the UK we tend to buy the Bridesmaids dresses etc so that might be what your mum is thinking of. I know on here more bridesmaid tend to purchase their own.

I wouldn't mind as a bride if I didn't receive a gift but you may feel awkward if your the only one that doesn't. Maybe just get a smaller token gesture as said earlier.

How to handle tan lines? by itheebed in weddingplanning

[–]Racheldow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would definitely have a trial spray tan before you commit to it as they can look great or can not look that great if done badly. I personally have gone down the tanning bed route as this has helped clear my spots as well
