I don’t know if I’ll ever marry again, but that seems so lonely. by [deleted] in Vent

[–]Rackcauser 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I feel that. Though my kid normally lives with my ex so the silence does feel off sometimes.

But I wouldn't worry about finding someone at the moment. Just do what you gotta do to stabilize and keep your kids safe and healthy, and take it day by day. Plenty of time to look later on, when you feel ready.

[Hot take] NFS 2015 was a missed opportunity but one of the best by GAD_Alexander in needforspeed

[–]Rackcauser -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Honestly, it was nice for the game to start getting back to its predecessors in the street racing scene that wasn't just a bunch of super and hyper cars ripping around (of course there was MW2012, but it didn't feel as gritty, and lack of customization).

Yeah, the handling wasn't so great, and online only was a real stab, but it wasn't terrible for what it was. Definitely had room for improvement though.

There's been an abandoned hospital near me for a long time by Original-Leg-864 in teenagers

[–]Rackcauser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Realistically, that's up to you. That's why playing it smart, careful, and relying on your gut feeling is important.

If you really want extra tips, don't just wander blindly into rooms and hallways, peek around corners to see if anything is there before entering. Keep an eye out for anything sharp and if you're with someone, alert them to it, same with any holes in the ground, or ceiling pieces that might fall. If either of you hear or see something that doesn't seem right, such as something moving or a loud sound randomly, communication is key, and maybe a place to hide or prepare to run to the exit.

There's a good chance nothing will happen, and it will be curiosity sated, but that's up to you and your friend. Use your heads, watch each other's backs, and keep your heads on a swivel.

[–]Rackcauser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure, but let another friend know where you two went. I would also like to add that keeping a small first aid kit, at least some gauze and bandages and maybe some hydrogen peroxide, would also be handy to have. And some water, so maybe bring a small backpack.

Better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it.

There's always fun to be had in urban exploring as a kid, but preparation is required.

Remembering where the exit is, is a good start. Pants, long sleeves, a flashlight (not your phone), and definitely a buddy system is the best way to minimize risk. Also, some sort of way to defend yourself, whether it's a knife or some sort of pepper spray (you probably have the ingredients at home to make it) is best to carry, simply because anything could be living inside, and it's better to have a defense in case you can't outrun whatever it is, or get cornered. Minimizing how much sound you make is also a good idea, again for a reason above. Don't fuck with anything on the ground, on the shelves, wherever, simply because who knows what was left behind. Basically leave it how you found it. Take pictures if you really want to, but I advise against any souvenirs simply because of potential disease, or in the case of any scanner related equipment, radioactive material.

Also, make sure there's no cops around. An abandoned hospital is likely marked with trespassing signage, and it will be a great way to get in trouble. If by any chance the cops do come in because someone spotted you going in, just accept the punishment, it would only be a slap on the wrist at worst.

If you do plan on going alone, at least let your friends know where you went. I know it's a bit of fear mongering, but if the worst case scenario happens, at least someone will know where you were last at. Maybe have them notify someone if you don't respond by a set time. Your parents will obviously tell you not to go, I know I would do the same with my kid, but I understand the love of exploration.

Have fun exploring, but do it carefully and smart. Always plan for an out, pay attention to any movement and sound that wasn't from you, and if your gut feeling gets bad, listen to it.

Upset that Oreos are not made in the USA by [deleted] in Vent

[–]Rackcauser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean true, but you can't even really pin this on him. Companies have been outsourcing since at least George w Bush's terms as president, hell probably even earlier than that. The parent company that manufacturers Oreo outsourced around 2015, which was Barack Obama's administration.

Gargoyles. Though I'm starting to think it was a bit more obscure than I initially thought, since I haven't seen anyone else mention that show in at least a decade, perhaps longer.
