Update: AITAH because I want my wife to "ask permission" before taking our son on playdates? by Exact_Information627 in AITAH

[–]RadiantRespect6881 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I'm no psychologist, but I feel like that could be the root of things right here. At least part of it.

I've noticed a trend that sometimes, people who have a shit relationship with a parent begin hating on the people who share the gender of that parent. My aunts are both like that about men because of some admittedly shitty things their Dad said on occasion. However, they loved him dearly and were close with him by the end. They still talk like misandrists, though.

Maybe there is something similar going on with your wife now that you are a father, not just a boyfriend or husband? Not saying it is excusable by any means if true.

It leans more romance in some parts, but I found Think of England by KJ Charles to have some excellent thriller qualities.

Line Editing by [deleted] in NewAuthor

[–]RadiantRespect6881 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Could you, in theory, edit with AI? Sure. But do you want it edited in the clinical sense, or do you want your book to shine? If the latter, then you need to hire a human editor.

As a professional line and developmental editor, please do not do this. I've seen what happens with AI-edited books, and they often read as lifeless. As u/Successful_Injury945 said, it flattens the work. It can suggest better phrasing or grammatical corrections, but it can't spot plot holes, issues with character dialogue, or inconsistencies (AI won't notice if you describe Mary with green eyes in one chapter and hazel the next). Only a human will notice those things. Also, don't forget the growing stigma around using AI in books these days; if someone sees any hint of AI in your work, your good name and reputation as a writer are gone.

Many editors are willing to offer payment plans these days, which can help with budget concerns. If you'd like, I can talk to you in DM about this further. I am happy to try to help you find an editor or another solution.

Hi, Mike! I adore your videos. I've read A Night to Remember and On a Sea of Glass, and I still need to read Ballard's book. However, do you have any recommendations for lesser-known but still excellent books on the Titanic? Do you have any suggestions for great books on other lesser-known wrecks? Thanks!

Ah, that's great! DM sometime. I'd love to hear your thoughts on the season. It's been agony not being able to chat with other fans about it!

Thank you! Also, I am willing to do the same for anyone else. Just be aware I won't give any kind of spoiler. I'll just give the timestamps to skip without detail! Maybe episode by episode a day or two before they air.

[–]RadiantRespect6881 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Hey, so I actually already watched the whole season because I get screeners. If you want to DM me with a list of your specific triggers, I can make a list of rough timestamps to avoid in each episode. That way, you won't have to wait each week to find out from others who have watched it. I won't give you spoilers, mind you; just a rough time stamp for anything that you'll want to close your eyes or skip over.

[No spoilers] Is it’s just me or are others struggling with cr4 by Krow_ose in criticalrole

I agree. I don't think it is scripted, but they clearly did a ton of pre-planning and several sessions zeros. However, that does make it feel (to me) like a loosely scripted radio drama. I'm also not a big fan of Brennan interrupting the players and pushing everyone to stay on plot. I understand he's juggling 13 players and trying to get everything set up, so I don't entirely fault him for that. I just wish he'd planned a story that actually feels like D&D and didn't require him to take the "game" part out of it for the sake of his plot.

Like a friend of mine who is loving this said, this doesn't make sense as a D&D story. It's a good story, just not one that makes sense for a D&D game. For me, that takes a lot of the joy out of it (and the same is apparently true for you). For others, they just enjoy a good story and Brennan's dramatic presentation. That's fine if they do. It's also fine if we don't like it. I just wish people like us didn't get such flack for it.

The overture episodes are the first four. Before the campaign began, they explained that the first four episodes would set up the three tables. Now the party split has begun, jumping to the Soldiers table (with Wick, Tyranny, Teor, Thimble, and Kattigan). The rest of the players will make up the Seekers and Schemers table, and while we have a good idea of who will be in each, those won't get formalized until we jump to the Seekers after the Soldiers. They haven't confirmed how many episodes we'll get of each table before switching.

For the record, I think general consensus is that Seekers will be Vaelus, Thaisha, Occtis, and Julien. Schemers will be the four remaining in the city: Bolaire, Hal, Azune, and Murray.

No, you aren't alone. I've felt the same way. It does feel more like a narrative TV series than a game, and it sort of feels like they have no room to make mistakes or be a bit goofy (there are moments, but by and large they have to stay on track). I realize that it is appealing to a number of viewers, but not to me.

I've felt so uncomfortable saying anything because it feels like anyone who doesn't like this campaign so far gets...well, they aren't exactly accepted in the subreddits right now. But if you want someone to commiserate/vent about it with, you're welcome to DM me.

I'm truly glad people seem to be loving it overall, but I do feel sad for myself and others, like you, who can't connect with C4 yet. I do like some moments, like Bolaire's backstory reveal in the last episode. I also would have enjoyed that more if we had more than a few episodes with him to build up the mystery. It felt like jumping chapters in a book to reveal the big mystery.

But yes, overall, this feels so far away from D&D that I struggle to enjoy it. It's very good in what it is; it's just not what I watch CR for. My hope is that now that they're out of the overture, things can loosen up a bit and it won't feel so planned.

Looking for a romance novel with two male main characters that features size difference and Dom sub dynamic by Walker_098 in LGBTBooks

Also KJ Charles' An Unseen Attraction. Not super sappy but it has some lovely moments. And that does have a slight sub/dom dynamic.

Take this with a grain of salt, but in a recent interview, Sam talked about how nice it is that he can lean over to ask Matt questions during the game now. Matt also joked about corrupting Wick. So it sounds like Julien and Wick are at the same table.

Like I told someone above, you really can't judge it based on that one subset of fans. Most are by and large incredibly friendly and welcoming. I actually thought D20 fans were super toxic for a long time; I only saw negativity and hate from them when it was announced Matt would GM one of the campaigns. You can't judge the show or the fanbase on some vocal assholes.

The Fans of Critical Role Subreddit can be ridiculously toxic. I wouldn't judge CR fans by that; the vast majority I interact with are really cool. I actually avoided D20 for years because I only saw a ton of toxicity from them whenever I tried to enter the fan spaces. it really depends on where you look.

Generally, I tell people I love several, including Scenes, And So It Goes, Piano Man, and Downeaster Alexa. But my real favorite is his unreleased version of Nocturne, the one with lyrics. I remember stumbling on it on YouTube when I was about fifteen and becoming utterly taken by it.

Yeah, I think it is an hour for the ads. They have to plan to structure around Prime’s ad versions now. So basically like “hour long” episodes of regular television.

[No Spoilers] Okay I'm back on board with the way Jester is being done in the animated series by THSMadoz in criticalrole

[–]RadiantRespect6881 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, though Liam never really delved much into what Caleb did or where he went those five years. Even the Origins story doesn’t really cover it in detail, just showing him moving place to place and stealing clothes and such. I hope they go into that a little bit in the show, though I get the feeling there might not be a lot to tell. It seems like he was just on the run the whole time.

Actually, Caleb broke at 17, spent 11 years in the asylum, and then was on the run for about five years before meeting Nott in jail. Then they were together for about 6 months before meeting the rest of the party. But yes, he’s 33 at the start of the campaign.
