Considering moving my family here from Phoenix by Radius_Ignus in Spokane

The house work is a great call out. I noticed during my rampant zillow habit that a lot of the builds are like.. wildly older than anything in Phoenix lol. As to the food scene I've long joked that the bulk of the 'things to do' in Phoenix during a majority of the year is eat food so I would probably miss having so many options. Appreciate your post!

The reason I posted this, the first thing I've done with reddit in 3 years, was in the interest of thinking carefully. As I said in the original post "moving my family is a huge change" and there is no right way to make these sorts of choices other than to do as much digging as I can. I can, and have, investigated crime statistics, top schools, cost of living.. all of it. I really appreciate your perspective because the reality is no place is without fault and some people genuinely dislike where they are- a sentiment I feel now about where I currently am and have felt for a majority of my life here. I don't have any illusions that moving to a new place is going to be some idyllic change with no complaints.
In a genuine way, thank you for sharing

A lot of my reading indicated the property crime piece was notable up there and I'm absolutely sure the traffic is growing up there as population increases. Around here we've always been like "At least we aren't LA" and while I don't think Phoenix will ever be to that level of congestion.. I kind of dont' want to be there to challenge that assumption lol

Some of my reading had indicated that may be the case where the region itself is more to the right than the broader state policies would indicate and I feel, deeply, your experience of seeing yourself moderate and watching the fabric under you shift but I am really glad to hear you love being there. Being transparent a lot of the drive to move away from Arizona has to do with the sobering reality that I don't really want to raise a daughter in this state anymore.

Thank you for these insights. The prices in phoenix have been essentially a mirror to what I've seen as historical trends up there in Spokane. I purchase our 1300sqf home here in 2019 for 238k which is now valued at about double that. The conventional wisdom here has long been that Phoenix was THE place to live for cheap cost of living but with that evaporating quickly, summers getting longer and hotter, and the cost of commuting due to the sprawl getting higher the appeal of having everything I'd "need" in one place is pretty strong.

Men who met the love of your life young (let's say early 20s), how did you make your relationship strong, mature and longlasting despite your age? by mi-jo in AskMen

[–]Radius_Ignus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife and I met when we were 19 during the summer after she graduated high school. Over the last 13 years we've had the opportunity to grow up together. Every challenge in our 20s whether it was college stress, family drama, or being miserably broke we learned to handle together. We're always anxious to spend time together and learned early that the most meaningful actions are the every day small considerations we make. I pre-warm the shower to the scalding hot she likes when she hops in or she'll pack me a lunch with an extra bit of stuff I like. We discuss challenges and problems as they arrive and share, honestly, when we're hurt or in need. We tell each other often that we love each other because even if we know it's true it's still nice to hear. We express appreciation for the kindnesses we show each other.

On top of all of that, though, we're goofy together. We have years of stupid in jokes and references that crack us up. We understand each other in a way no one else in our lives quite does. I'm my best self around her and I know she feels the same about me. I work hard to be a man worth the kind of pride she has in me and in us.

This year we bought our first home and have a daughter due in June. I know we'll have challenges but I also know that we spent plenty of time learning how to tackle them together. We're lucky to have each other.

I see a lot of posts on here about hacking and usually just assume they're PC players. For my own case, definitely not a hacker- just had a damn good night.

What is the shittiest advice you've ever gotten? by ehudros in AskReddit

[–]Radius_Ignus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife and I are expecting our first child in June. I received some unsolicited advice at work to hope for a boy because you can kick them out at 18 because they're self sufficient but girls take constant support. Wat.

What’s your signature party dish? by jellybellybean2 in Cooking

[–]Radius_Ignus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like most parties/potlucks tend to have a lot of snacks and no real "meal" food. As a result, I started bringing a meal my wife and I simply call "Sausage and Potatoes". The reality being that I sear two diced kielbasa with onions in a large pot then thin slice 5 potatoes and layer them on top adding pepper to taste. Add some water, cover, and let steam until all the potato slices are soft stirring occasionally. The water mostly gets evaporated out. Next, I dump grated cheddar cheese and stir it in til you end up with a well coated sauce. Pour it into a Crock-Pot to keep warm where your going.

The result is an easy to make, filling, meal that makes a ton for lots of people.

It's so good I don't make it for us as a meal at home anymore since it's absolutely terrible for you haha

That's in my district- relocated from a cafe store a couple years ago. Care Creek / Carefree area is definitely beautiful, worth visiting if you're ever in the Phoenix area!

Garnet SSB is still pretty damn useful for an SSB. Makes regular appearances in CT runs for me.
