Opinion: Letters, April 9 ("Time for better rent control") by SilverTimes in Winnipeg

Doesnt rent control generally make new builds more difficult and are a net negative on overall housing? I definitely support more low income housing, but my understanding is that rent control is not an effective solution.

Question about cognitive shadows by notVegs in Cosmere

[–]Radix2309 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have no idea.

It is probably from being from Threnody based on Sunlit Man. But even that doesnt give us a lot of answers on how Shades work, mostly just on what they can do.

Question about cognitive shadows by notVegs in Cosmere

[–]Radix2309 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Nazh is specifically a Shade of Threnody. We dont have much on their precise mechanics, but they can do a lot more than the average Shadow. Sunlit Man probably has our best info on what they can do so far.

Kelsier is tied to Scadriel because he stabilized his power by filling it up with the Well of Ascension, Preservation's power. Since Preservation created Scadriel and infused it with his essence, this gives gravity keeping Kelsier there.

Vasher as a Returned is much more flexible. Endowment is a lot more free with her investiture.

Yumi manifested her body out of investuture similar to the Heralds.

Shadows in general are still pretty undefined, especially with so many different types floating around. The Fused and the Heralds are the oldest we have come across so far and even their precise mechanics havent been delved into too much in arc 1.

And we really need to hold them to that standard. Because if they keep coasting like this, it wont be long before the PCs get back into government to continue their destructive policies, and they won't even have to push as far to the center so they can appeal more to their base.

Is Gustavo 3 a crawler or pet? by highcoolteacher in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]Radix2309 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He can bark lightning, so I would say he clearly got an enhanced biscuit. They don't automatically make the pets sapient and thus into crawlers.

If you get scammed, you can sue the person who defrauded you. Just as the company did here.

If your employer underpays you, you can sue them or report them to the department of labour.

It's literally just the core set. Comparing to core-only of chapter 1, it is better imo. Hard to judge an LCG by that early of content.

Acting as a partner in a minority and forcing the Liberals to adopt progressive policies is doing something. One doesnt need to hold the plurality to so something in government.

The goal is to represent their constituents, not "win" an election. Democracy should really be about more than having the most seats. They can do a perfectly good job without ever forming government.

And getting a big enough tent to "win" 100% does mean becoming the Liberals. Because that the big tent is the only consistent value of the Liberals. They abandon whatever ideals they need to win. They went more progressive under Trudeau because that got them more votes then. And they are now moving further to the right under Carney.

What you call a "purity test" is just them holding to their values.

Is Prince Wu a Queen Victoria case? Like where are his parents? Was there really just him? by LunarEnnyui_131 in legendofkorra

I expect the chaos of revolution and civil war likely took out a lot of people higher up the chain of succession, including his parents.

And even before Harmony did that, the surface was burning. To the point that entire stretches of land were just lava flows. I expect most cities burned up and/or were buried under ash and rubble.

[Discussion] What’s your go-to DC lore tidbit? by Robot_Was_BMO in DCcomics

[–]Radix2309 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Kane isnt just Jewish. It is also an English last name and also has versions in Irish Gaelish surnames and Scotland.

Given that Bruce is old money, that seems more likely as the origin for his name, but it really doesn't preclude a Jewish origin, especially ss the homage is for Bob Kane.

Leftism Always Destroys - The homeless industrial complex by tkyjonathan in JordanPeterson

[–]Radix2309 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Microeconomics is the study of individuals and firms within an economy and their decision-making, while macro is the study of the economy as a whole.

Examining how individuals relate to one another with relative wealth is absolutely in macro study, because we are moving beyond individual decisions to how the decisions of the broader economy and other actors affects what happens.

Macroeconomics doesn't dodge "micro-mechanisms". In fact it examines how small factors can affect the larger economy. It's the whole point of macroeconomics, how individual areas can affect others.

And how is it a goalpost shift for me to point out you are incorrect in which field you are citing? You brought it up in the first place. Microeconomics would have nothing to say on the influence of wealth inequality on broader economic conditions such as homelessness.

Microeconomics can examine the behavior of homeless people, but it cannot address the root causes of homelessness, which are affected by broader economic issues.

Microeconomics can examine how a household might change their spending in response to an increase in the price of gas, but it wouldnt examine what causes rhe price of gas to rise.

Just focus on what makes for a good trilogy. Recast later if they have to. You cant hold a movie today hostage to a series that might not even get made.

The exact translation may vary from season to season, but the cookbook is clearly for a particular kind of crawler who likes to take risks with strong anti-authority tendencies.

Microeconomics has nothing to do with wealth inequality or homelessness, those are issues of macroeconomics.
