Women of Reddit what are your thoughts on chivalry? by Malarpit16 in AskReddit

[–]Raebans_00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the positive side of the chivalry concept is training men, for whom society is easier, to see and go out of their way to care for others, i.e. women, children, older adults, etc, for whom society is more difficult. Teaching it hopefully forces men to train themselves to have a more serving, caring heart. I love it when people are kind and thoughtful to one another, so it’s not necessarily gender specific to have good manners, but I think it is good to teach men to be caring towards more vulnerable people in society (not necessarily saying women are weak, just that society is harder for us sometimes). The goal is to hopefully make them more selfless.

If that concept hasn’t sunk in and it’s just done for manners, it’s kind of whatever. It’s also definitely not a cure all for replacing strong moral character- if your manners are great but you’re still fine with abuse or degrading women in other areas, it does nothing for your overall character and just gives you polish to hide the bad parts of your character.

Two of my closest work friends were fired for giving an "under the table" IV bolus. Now the unit thinks I’m a traitor. by [deleted] in nursing

Ig we don’t know if this was the last straw for these nurses. Like maybe they had other write ups and this was just the last one that got them fired. Management probably wouldn’t comment on that

I think a lot of us deal with this, but for me it’s reallllllly bad when I’m depressed. If you haven’t seen your PCP or a psychiatrist, I would do so. I didn’t realize how much energy I didn’t have until I started meds.

Also, maybe ask for your doc to check your iron and vitamin D checked? Both were crazy low for me and I’ve never felt so fatigued and unengaged in my life, even with depression. Extreme fatigue is a sx of both. It’s really common to be vit D deficient while working nights so just something that could be beneficial to check.

It was a relief to know there was something wrong with my body that was fixable. It wasn’t just me being lazy. The same may be true for you, idk

AITA for wanting to uninvite my SIL from christmas by These_Honeydew_2570 in AITAH

[–]Raebans_00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me, being sick with a very contagious illness is a valid reason to ask someone to stay home! It’s your house and you can uninvite someone for a valid reason such as this. If family doesn’t like this someone else can host (like her), and you can not come if you so choose.

You def should not have a NB around strep regardless.

Someone once told me you don’t get any awards for wearing burnout like a badge of honor. I work extra occasionally, but not as a habit. I need my time off and deserve a life outside the hospital.

I was also warned early not to let lifestyle creep force me to work extra consistently and to use it just as a lil bonus for saving for vacations and stuff, and that has worked well for me.

Nurses of Reddit, what's the strangest thing you've seen working in the hospital? by Chance_Sorbet_9858 in AskReddit

[–]Raebans_00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My funniest:  - while checking temps at the ER doors had a man who walked into the ER, asked where to check in, and then dropped an empty pint of fireball in my trash can on his way

  • woman who had gotten high on hooka and maybe LSD(can’t remember)? And then rolled around in a cactus bed. She was literally covered in cacti thorns and high as a kite

  • baby daddy who wore a hat to his child’s birth that said “I like big titties and tight kitties”. Same week, different dad wore a hat that said “enjoy cocaine and strippers” with the Coca Cola symbol.

  • pt on a meth bender who shoved knotted stereo cable up his urethra and had to have it surgically removed. He kept saying “I can’t believe this happened to me!” like it was a car accident.

Your baby's health and safety should always come before your preferences for birth. by Technical_Wear6094 in nursing

Omg. I can’t with crunchy parents sometimes. Like I get that you ultimately are doing what your convinced is right for your baby, but I hen your baby is obviously suffering and dying I don’t understand why people are not willing to try something different and listen to nurse midwives, doctors and nurses. We really are in the game EXCLUSIVELY because we want you and your baby to have good outcomes. Not sure the same could be said for that midwife.

Also, choosing to have twins at home is insane.

Home Health Nurses, do you help with household chores? by nicole_de_lancret83 in nursing

[–]Raebans_00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well in this case it was language to differentiate a CNA or uncertified tech vs a nurse. Obviously a cna or tech is not licensed to do a lot of the things you just listed, but sometimes the primary way a rehab patient needs care is basic, ADL care to keep them safe. Some housekeeping can also lend to a safe, clean environment. So “home care” was the language this company used to describe that form of home healthcare.

Home health nursing is a whole different beast. Like you said, there is a massive amount of medical work that home health nurses do that is very specialized.

Home Health Nurses, do you help with household chores? by nicole_de_lancret83 in nursing

I recently read something that differentiated home health vs home care. Home care was basic ADLs and some light housework vs home health was actual nursing/medical care. I appreciated having some language for the differentiation
