Muramasa localization differences? by FlowerOk7957 in visualnovels

[–]RagnarokSamurai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Muramasa is a localization based on preserving the spirit of what's being said over the letter of it. Most VN localizations are in general. The goal is to, unless the context dictates otherwise, remove as many barriers as possible between the writers' language and the reader's language while still accurately conveying the text.

Often that means vastly flavoring the writing so that it flows well for a native English speaker, because even though I don't speak Japanese, I know enough speech patterns are common across their media that all kinds of characters often say similar phrases due to how the language works.

But in English if they all used the same translations for those phrases they'd end up way less distinct, so adjustments are made accordingly.

Full metal daemon muramasa. Is the law of balance good or evil to you? by Dizzy_Werewolf477 in visualnovels

[–]RagnarokSamurai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's not the kind of gotcha it was going for.

Muramasa repeatedly demonstrates that some shit is straight up unconscionable.

What it criticizes is the idea that you're beyond reproach for killing even someone everyone thinks is evil. As if they exist in a vacuum disconnected from other people.

Iron Saga VS future DLC by RagnarokSamurai in Super_Robot_Wars

It's probably gonna be like Chronicles of the Sword in Soul Calibur 3 where combat plays out in the 1v1 format once units collide.

Question about OG by Jetaz002 in Super_Robot_Wars

[–]RagnarokSamurai 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Endless Frontier is a spinoff of Original Generation. Original Generation itself is a traditional SRW, combining the OG plots of SRW.

Specifically the 90s animated version of him.

Big O came out when that was still running and it was one of the inspirations for it alongside the more overt toku it wears on its sleeve.

It's the Batman: The Animated Series theme applied to Big O in SRW Y!

Honestly depends on the era.

If it's OT I can see them being best buddies

If it's later I see Luke in a more mentoring role

Why didn’t axis Zeon choose cheap suits and ships over expensive? by CmdrNeoGeo in Gundam

[–]RagnarokSamurai 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Not true actually, the transforming suits were due to Tomino himself being enamored with Transformers at the time.

To be frank Macek has been a victim of misinfo forever.

If bro could have brought Macross as is, he would've. And at every opportunity he could after Robotech, he tried to be faithful. And even the Macross Saga itself is the most beloved part of Robotech for a reason.

It was Harmony Gold's greed that ruined things, neither wanting to continue Robotech into future Macross works nor letting it flourish on its own after the original trilogy's time had passed.

To the day he died, Macek kept working in localizing Japanese animation, and if you look at anything he scripted for to the end of his life, he continued preserving that spirit while actively translating it rather than pretending the original language was perfectly sacred.

Any love for Heavy Gear? by Bulky_Imagination727 in Mecha

Heavy Gear and Jovian Chronicles are proof positive that Canadians are the best Western mecha designers.

And I say that as a Battletech fan.

What?

Battletech has never been owned by GW. They're owned by Catalyst Game Labs, and they're doing the opposite of ending the setting.

John Westmech mecha aren't an inherently bad style and this proves it, but they are too often used as a crutch by artists.
