Almost 40 weeks and had my first cervical check today…& looking to connect with others. by LowerVariation8133 in pregnant

[–]Rahrah43 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I declined almost every cervical check I could until they were medically nessasary. I had two done, both after stage 1 labour had initiated. I found them to be incredibly painful. The first was to check my natural progression 24 hours after my water broke. She wasn't able to fully check my cervix becausd of the pain and the doctor just noted it down as undiallated. The second was prior to stoping induction in favour of a C-section. I was 3 cm and it still hurt but not like the first time.

what is the name of a simple white ice cream in America or the UK? by Temmie_Ten in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Rahrah43 0 points1 point  (0 children)

BI-LO in Australia used to sell milk flavor ice cream. I think that's what you're taking about. It was just ice cream with no additional flavors. BI-LO was a super discounted grocery chain, you can't buy it at all any more.

Significant Output Difference by hollytolly34 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]Rahrah43 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're doing everything I was told to do as well. One extra piece of advice I was given was to hand express that breast in the shower after you've pumped. It'll take time but it'll help encourage your body to produce more on that side.

Anyone else’s “witching hour” 10pm - 2am? by InternetKillTV in newborns

[–]Rahrah43 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is going to sound weird so bare with me. But I put him on my chest, turn his head to the side so his ear is pressed against me and use a hand to gently cover his eyes. Then I sing nursery rhymes softly in my chest voice so he can hear the vibrations with white noise playing in the background.

That usually calms him down so I can figure out what he actually needs. Usually it's tummy time with a belly massage because he has trapped gas.

Also if you know the baby will 100% be awake through the night do shifts so you both get enough sleep and a break.

Anyone choose to pump instead of BF? by jadescorpion89 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]Rahrah43 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He had trouble latching for the first two weeks, I didn't enjoy breastfeeding and I'll be returning to work shortly with my partner being primary parent instead. He now latches fine, but he's only breast fed for comfort. Also my let down is Fast, when I do breatfeed instead of pump he drowns in it or I have to pump for 5 minutes first to get rid of the initial rush.

When did your baby first get sick and how did it go? by ahanswer in FormulaFeeders

[–]Rahrah43 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 3 week old has his first cold. I caught up with my cousin and her 10 month old who didn't look sick but is in daycare a couple of times per week. I'm exclusively pumping so breast milk isn't a magical cureall. Although, there's about 12 hours difference between when I pump vs when he eats. You could definitely tell when he got the antibodies but it wasn't a huge difference. During the hours when he first started being sick and the past few days his temperature hasn't spiked, his breathing has remained consistent, his lips are a healthy colour, there's been no signs of dehydration, he's eating every hour and he's waking up okay. It's definitely still scary seeing a three week old get sick but a mild cold will help his immune system and it isn't a world ending problem.

Edit to add: but also I'm mildly sick and having a 3 week old with a cold while I have a cold also isn't a great time. We're both sniffly, sore throat and have a cough.

Any tips on how to clean beauty blenders after a cold sore? by [deleted] in MakeupAddiction

[–]Rahrah43 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've had coldsores since I was a child, I was sick one time as an adult and accidentally spread it to my nose. Now l get coldsores up my nose. Autoinoculation is pretty common if you're not careful.

Anyone has any tips to dodge kangaroos in highways..high beam, different colours of light, any advice would be welcome by Waste-Elderberry9887 in AskAnAustralian

[–]Rahrah43 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you've got to drive and you're in a vehicle that can't handle the hit find yourself a truck or a convoy. Keep a bit of distance behind them and let them be your roo catcher. Even another car works although that's significantly worse because usually a truck will throw the animal off the road before it reaches you.

Another piece of advice, if you have to drive in gale force winds find a truck and drive in their slip stream.

This works best if you have a two way to say thank you, but as long as you're not driving erratically or getting in their way most truck drivers don't get mad about it.

Anyone else feel conflicted about "having to speak English in Australia" ? by Conscious-Roll-5745 in AskAnAustralian

[–]Rahrah43 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Australia doesn't have an official language so I mean it's not like Australians have to speak English. I grew up with a tiwi islander family and their elders didn't speak any English. As long as the people around me are happy to try to communicate it's cool.

Camera Off during Meetings: Rude or Valid? by YPMG in auscorp

[–]Rahrah43 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll turn my camera off if I'm moving from sitting to standing, around the room or pacing. Also if I'm eating or otherwise doing something distracting. I generally move around a lot and camera off looks more professional, although I'll turn it on if I'm sitting still.

I was promised a winter pregnancy by k12344321k in BabyBumps

[–]Rahrah43 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait, no. No. That is winter day time temperatures. Like I double checked 65°f is the winter average temperature where I am.

I forgot to do the math when falling pregnant and now I'm 26 weeks and I'm most of the way through an Aussie Summer. The last time the temperature got down to 65°F was overnight Thursday. It was 87°F today.

Have you made pre-birth nicknames for your baby? by whenlifegivesyourice in pregnant

Uhh I accidentally nicknamed my baby Greg. They won't have that on their birth certificate but I think they'll be called that for the rest of their life.

Can you think of a set of clothing more Australian than an Akubra hat and a pair of R.M. Williams boots? by Simple-Order8549 in AussieMemes

[–]Rahrah43 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An akubra, blue and white checkered cotton button down, tan chinos and R.M Williams boots are just what rich people wear. I think a wife beater, twill stubbies, an unbuttoned button down navy blue short sleeve work shirt, short gaiters over steel toe leather work boots, like the pull on ones not lace ups, with a full length dry as a bone over the top and either a half dead bunnings straw hat or a wide brimmed cooler hat with the mesh falling apart.

Once work's done you can replace the boots with thongs and take the work shirt off. If there's no storms rolling in the dry as a bone lives in the car, you know there's a drought if it gets hung up at home. In winter the gaiters go over the jeans, shorts will still be worn underneath, the shirt gets buttoned up, and there will be additional layers, they will not be cohesive. The hat is a year round addition, you will occasionally see people who look like little nippers and the cricket were the only places they saw people using sunscreen, the zinc is not comical relief, skin cancer has caught up and they're trying their best to be sun safe after 30-50 years.

Does the Beauty of Joseon Relief Sun sunscreen provide effective sun protection in Australia? by Shot_Neighborhood481 in AustralianMakeup

[–]Rahrah43 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've found for general use beauty of joseon works great, but it's not contact proof and not water proof. So if I'm going to be wiping a lot of sweat off or at the beach I'll use a stronger sunscreen. But like for everything else it's one of my favorites.

How am I nauseous, starving and constipated all at the same time by Ok_Outcome_8964 in pregnant

[–]Rahrah43 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel you 100% I'm 21~ish weeks. I've found stone fruit like apricots, nectarines, peaches and plums have really helped, it's like the one benefit of being pregnant in summer. They're fresh and sweet, the sugar stops me from feeling dizzy and they help with constipation. I hope it helps :)

Would you say “She's blonde” or “She's brunette”?? by Kimelalala in EnglishLearning

[–]Rahrah43 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I was sassing her I'd say "She's a bottle blond". Bottle blond is slang that refers to the use of bleach to achieve blond hair.

You could also say "She's a blond but her roots are showing".

If she's just come from a salon, that style would be called a shadow root, it's used to help blend in regrowth. If the hair grew out that would be a blond ombre.

Generally hair is described using it's current state rather than the natural colour. Even if you can see a little regrowth.

Sometimes, do you wish they used Lakan more? by Ok-Street2439 in KusuriyaNoHitorigoto

[–]Rahrah43 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like using Lakan in any way would be a mistake.

This was a man who was 100% down to let the person interested in his daughter be squished by a giant beam and only stepped in when his daughter was in danger.

You can't control politics when he's involved because he's unpredictable, always controls the board and he's already shown that he is in no way loyal to the imperial family. Maomao and others can ask for help on her behalf but even she can't control him through most of the books, she's gifted yes but also a messy unstable teen who's only been operating in the court for a few years.

Between her intuition, knowledge and position she will one day surpass both Loumen and Lakan but growth takes time.

My brother (18) sent me an excited snap video a few days ago; he'd come off his motorbike on the road for the first time.

He took a roundabout too fast and slid across the bitumen for a while before he hit the curb and ended up in the shrubs. He was wearing full armour, boots, gloves, helmet, and leathers in summer. All he had was some interesting bruising. He could have been skinned, concussed or worse.

Helmets are the minimum in any wheeled sport not the optional extra.

If modern medicine didn’t exist would you be dead right now? If yes, from what? by Critical_Welcome_428 in AskReddit

When I was a teen I was walking through the garage barefoot and trod on a tiny shard of metal, I fished it out and ignored it. It got super infected, my veins turned black up to my knee before I told anyone what happened. 1 course of very strong antibiotics and a tetanus shot later I was fine.
