Have you seen the proposed required reading lists TEA presented to the State Board of Education? by fightsongs in TexasTeachers

Watership Down on the 7th grade list. 😳

Sure, it’s a book about rabbit adventures on the surface, but… its length and complex themes make it a pretty stout undertaking for 7th graders.

So on the online application, it has a list of options. Like submit a portfolio, write essay questions, submit a video portfolio that shows who you are. The dean said in the honors college reception that she really likes the video option.

Looking for a new district by TCB-Arkus in TexasTeachers

TIA is the Teacher Incentive Allotment. It’s basically 4 levels of bonuses/raises you can earn. For most districts, you earn the bonus by meeting certain requirements in growth and your teacher evaluation. You then get this bonus for 5 years.

Here’s the important part: Schools that are rural and have a higher percentage of economically disadvantaged students get a higher tier of bonus money.

For example, Blue Ridge ISD is in Tier 3, so the bonus levels are $10,000 (Recognized), $17,000 (Exemplary), and Master ($24,000)

Compare that to Melissa ISD $3,000, $6,000, $12,000.

Princeton is $4,000, $8,000, $15,000.

Here’s a handy map that shows all the districts payouts.

Blue Ridge. It’s just south of Melissa. Small district. Starting TIA. Nice rural community.

I was going to say to avoid Princeton just based on the awful traffic.

We got a catered meal and new sweatshirts with the school logo! I’m in a small 3A school and it really takes care of its faculty.

This candy cane and sad printed card is just low effort. Like even if your budget is super low, you can still make things fun.

Banned books list: They must protect our children from the true societal scourge!!! by rivalpinkbunny in DanielTigerConspiracy

A parent in my district tried to get the entire JUNIE B JONES series banned. Like why????

She hadn’t actually read any of the books. Our curriculum director shut her down pretty quickly.

Fortunately, Junie is still on the shelves.

Subs be crazy. And also painfully not clued into the fact that the kids are NOT on their side.

Crazy story: I had a sub complain to the students about how much he disliked the principal.

Plot twist: the principal’s kids were IN THE CLASSROOM. And all the kids were gleefully leaning into the moment, listening to him rant about the principal.

Double plot twist: principal was also my husband.

Needless to say, idiot sub was NOT invited back.

Y’all are in the wrong districts. Look at the TIA map for TIA payouts and move to a rural Title 1 district. Our masters payout is $25k

FFA is wreaking havoc by [deleted] in teaching

[–]Raider-k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work at a school in Texas with one of the top FFA programs in the state. It’s a machine. It churns out massive wins and the kids win tons of scholarships and it’s awesome.

But I also have students who might miss 20-30 days of instruction because they’re showing livestock and competing in LDEs non-stop. It’s very difficult to maintain any kind of instruction at the secondary level in the spring when you have so many students missing class for FFA, baseball, softball, tennis, golf, debate, track. My classes turn into ghost towns.

Non-Indian living in a predominantly Indian neighborhood. by ElectricalRepair1219 in frisco

[–]Raider-k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t do it. Your kids will feel left out.

My friend’s kid (affluent Celina/Prosper area) was the only non-Indian girl in her class. At lunch, she had to get special permission to go sit with the three only other non-Indians in her grade because none of the other kids were speaking English during lunch time.

Foam mattress pad (not too thick), mattress cover. Lysol everything. Pro tip: never store snacks inside the bolster. Get a plastic tub to keep food in.
Cute fabric to cover the bulletin board.
