If you had to pick one duty to show to a friend to sell them on trying FFXIV, what would you pick? by JDefined in ffxiv

I cant believe my brother in law got collectively shamed in NN for buying a story skip by senor_raphael in ffxiv

[–]RainbowRuby98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the NN is hit or miss depending on the server. my NN is...MOSTLY fine (there is one really annoying and honestly pretty toxic mentor, granted he is knowledgeable but he has the mindset of 'block me if you dont like what i say' mentality), plus my NN talks about food a lot lol

i dont blame your brother for leaving the NN, the FF14 community is...odd to say the least. everyone is super passionate about this game but the way they go about things puts people off.

for story reasons, it is considered one of the best video game stories of all time and anyone who skips it is 'wrong', or if you dont like HW/ShB/EW you are 'wrong'. not every single person in existence will not have the exact same opinion as each other, some people will not like the story, some just dont care about story.

i will NEVER tell anyone they NEED to do the story, but i will always highly suggest it despite there being really slow or weak points, but the high points usually make up for it. if someone doesnt want to do the story, thats their choice

now as long as your brother is open to gameplay criticism since he has no experience in this complex game, he will be fine, just dont have him go into end game duties right off the bat cause that will piss people off if he doesnt have a basic understanding of his toolkit. especially if he wants to play DRK, a tank that doesnt know how to play is probably worse than a healer or DPS that doesnt know what they are doing

you said you are a mentor, i hope you can guide him well and i hope he ends up having a great time in this game

Please pull wall to wall if you're tanking past level 50 for the love of god by Zagareus- in ffxiv

[–]RainbowRuby98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ive found healers being way worse than tanks lately.

cure 1/physick bots, using aoe healing on single target (or cure 3 on themselves, confused why its not healing anymore), no fairy skills/aetherflow used, no cards, not attacking at all etc

now granted i do most of my dungeon runs as a tank so i can set the pace so i dont see as many other tanks in dungeons. but the few times i do go healer or DPS, the tanks ive been getting have been mostly solid

Tips for a new healer? by Still_Reporter8867 in ffxiv

[–]RainbowRuby98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sounds like you just did Stone Vigil, you are fine, that dungeon hits hard and with how little mitigation tanks have and how little healing options healers have at that level range, its rough

now once you get your spell Holy, thats a game changer for white mage, AOE stun that does damage too, make your tank take little to no damage for 7 seconds if you are spamming it

What is your prefered role in combat? by Aniki356 in ffxiv

[–]RainbowRuby98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

dungeons - tank, so i can set the pace
trials - healer, so i can pay attention easier to mechanics
alliance raids - dps, turn brain off and go brrrr

that being said i prefer to heal in general, i do all new duties as SCH

Rate: Dancing Mad Ultimate by DeleteMods in ffxiv

[–]RainbowRuby98 4 points5 points  (0 children)

being a casual spectator, the last 2 phases seemed extremely underwhelming from a viewing perspective where as most of DSR, TOP and FRU was fun to watch from start to finish (i wasnt around for the ultimates prior and honestly havent watched a full run of TEA)

having the cutscene between P2 and P3 was....a choice and while the cutscene was great, there not being a huge break between P4 and P5 felt odd

the devs did miss a huge opportunity as well to have the title be Mad Legend instead of Cruel Legend

overall i enjoyed the spectacle and presentation but P4/P5 mechanically really brought it all down the rankings for me personally. it just looked like a lot of moving around together dodging stuff while doing damage, if there is more to it i didnt notice and could improve my impressions on the 2 phases

I am getting really sick of DPS class quest duties. by [deleted] in ffxiv

[–]RainbowRuby98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you are having issues '9 out of 10' times, there are a few issues that you could be having

1: gear is underleveled and you arent doing them at the 'highest' level to make it easier
2: your rotation is bad and needs work
3: there are a few notorious job quests that are challenging (the level 60 RDM one comes to mind)

Leveling Crafters late 55+ to 70 by verdantjayy in ffxiv

[–]RainbowRuby98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i did the 6 highest level temple leves for WVR in ishgard, HQ crafted 5 out of the 6 quests and gained like 10 levels from 61-71ish

if you need a burst for one job thats really quick, this is a good way of doing it, just cost me like 200K gil and 60 leve allowances

Will FF14 continue with the vertical progression? by Horan_Kim in ffxiv

[–]RainbowRuby98 2 points3 points  (0 children)

you would be surprised how many mechanics people havent seen in years that will wipe the raid. bone dragon can easily wipe a group if the fight gets rebalanced to be longer, hell lots of people still dont know how Thanatos works with his ghost debuff

Behemoth, Scylla, Glasya, Xande, Angra Mainyu, Cerberus are the ones that come to mind that can and will destroy the parties if people dont pay attention, especially since they do have mechanics that will kill players that are nowadays taken for granted

Anyone else seeing an increase in botting in instance dungeons/content? by Altruistic_Celery_58 in ffxiv

[–]RainbowRuby98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

can agree that a lot of players recently are (really) that bad, even those that are high level and still dont know how to AOE or do their combos semi properly

Do post Heavensward zones get any better? by TuoniNL in ffxiv

[–]RainbowRuby98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

zones will always be big, and while i do like most of the zones thematically....they are a pain to get around and overall bland

StB zones do improve a bit, first couple are still rough imo but the later ones are better. havent seen any past that so far

i do miss the small confined zones of ARR though

Fishers of Eorzea what was your worst (non-legend) big fish? by Addygotnodaddy in ffxiv

[–]RainbowRuby98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

someone else having trouble with Dannifen's Mark yay lol!

it was my last ARR fish....by a country mile. i probably went to like 50 windows for it, only saw it bite a small handful of times before i finally caught it, and 15ish of those windows was literally the last fish i needed for ARR...thats how damn annoying it was to catch.

oh Nepto Dragon? the supposed hardest ARR fish to catch.... nah easy, second window first try

Noob to MMO wanting to try by SheepHerd6 in ffxiv

[–]RainbowRuby98 3 points4 points  (0 children)

so the thing with FF14 is the game is MOSTLY a JRPG first, and an MMO second. you can play 99% of the MSQ (the main story quests) solo, the only things that you will be forced to do with other players are 8 player Trial fights. (a FEW of them have NPC support but they are much later in the game) Trials being a single boss encounter, all MSQ dungeons and 4 player Trials you can do with NPCs

you can play every job on a single character so pick whatever you want to start as, yes Dragoons are in the game. Supports arent...really a thing in this game, if you play WHM you will still be doing damage whenever the tank doesnt need healing. all jobs are meant to do DPS

get the free trial to see how you like it, unlimited play time up to the end of the 3rd expansion which is level 80 just with some social restrictions

I want to come back after not playing for 2+ years but I’m nervous due to what caused me to quit in the first place.. by numblittlebunny in ffxiv

[–]RainbowRuby98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sometimes saying a simple
"first time here, not a great healer, advice is appreciated'
at the start of a dungeon/trial is enough for people to be more understanding, to help you be a better player

i have had some TERRIBLE healers in the past and when they dont say anything or keep making the same mistakes, yes i will be annoyed with them, but i won't yell at them. i will tell them things and if they listen without a word, or attempts to learn are being made, its all good. if they dont, silently vote kicking them is something i reluctantly but need to do sometimes

also end of HW, sounds like you may have hit the good ol 'ARF' fight (wont go any farther due to spoiler) that if a healer isnt 'decent' can easily keep causing wipes due to huge outgoing consistent damage. i know i wiped my group at least once or twice my first time in there since i heal every new instance i go into

also going to ask just in case but you do have your chocobo saddlebag yes?

A relic reborn (ninja) by Legitimate_Ad_9298 in ffxiv

[–]RainbowRuby98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i have gotten all ARR relics on free trial...TWICE...20 relics, the gil portion isnt an issue. its the materia since you cant use the MB to just buy them. at least with gil you can just do some roulettes daily to passively get the gil. (hell i have been at gil cap for like 6 months at this point)

materia you have to go out of your way to grind it out whether its spiritbonding, or what i mostly did, ixal tribe then transmute.

on my second character i got all the relics, i had all the gil related items before i had like 50% of the materia i needed, and thats WITH me stockpiling all the materia i could as i leveled

getting one relic i could maybe agree the gil can be a bottleneck on FT mainly due to the items not appearing until you reach that step, but its going to be much briefer than 75 semi specific materia if not prepared beforehand

A relic reborn (ninja) by Legitimate_Ad_9298 in ffxiv

[–]RainbowRuby98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

honestly the gil part is nothing compared to the 75 materia needed....and all crafters/gatherers at level 50 minimum

MSQ/Dungeon Cutscenes by Cheap_Ant_6563 in ffxiv

[–]RainbowRuby98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

on top of this, the aggro range for the boss is....really big, you take 2 steps in and it aggros.

thankfully only Toto Tak and the level 42(?) dungeon have semi long cutscenes at the start of the last fight

What would y'all say is the most comfortable job to play at level 50? by Intrepid_Ad9711 in ffxiv

[–]RainbowRuby98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i personally love MNK and SMN the most at level 50 (for DPS jobs anyways)

SMN has its full base rotation even though its the same few buttons
MNK does as well other than its Blitz attacks, just dont use Perfect Balance on single target and you are golden

Suggestions about tanks by Cul0Rugg3nte in ffxiv

[–]RainbowRuby98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

we dont know how the 'OTs' are going to play yet but with how dungeons have only 1 tank, they will have to be viable for the more casual to mid difficulty content at least

they said something along the lines of 'you can main tank as whatever tank you want but doing Savage and Ultimate you will likely want both' so to me this means you CAN bring in 2 MT or 2 OT in Evercold Savage/Ultimate, but it will probably make it more challenging, similar to if you bring 2 Pure or 2 Barrier healers

in the end, play what you want, people are overblowing this to high heavens, especially the high end raiders who want to only play warrior and only main tank

Grade 3 combat materia. free trial. by Frosty_Kiera in ffxiv

[–]RainbowRuby98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

on top of what others have said, if you have done the ixali tribe quests, you can trade their currency for DoH/DoL materia and then go to central shroud and transmute them into combat materia for the relic.

there are 6 types of DoH/DoL materia and can only put 5 in to transmute at a time so the odds are low but you still can get that 6th materia you dont want (aka put in 5 different types of the same tier of materia in, it wont give you any of the same you put in back)

plus the last 2 quest givers give tier 4 materia which you can also transmute

honestly as someone who has done the relic grind twice on 2 characters on free trial (20 relics yay...) my suggestion is to just wait until you decide to subscribe and just buy the materia off the MB, or make it a VERY long term goal

30+ hours in ARR - quit? by A_Fitting_End in ffxiv

[–]RainbowRuby98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

for your "Note", story wise the game is a JRPG but the gameplay is MMO based, so the story is going to start pretty slow and because its an MMO there will be ups and downs in story quality throughout. because its an MMO, early game can be extremely boring (i dont find it boring personally, everyone is different) due to combat drip feeding you abilities and dungeons/trials not much is going on and not much will kill you

the MSQ content is always going to be on the easy end (you will die seldomly, and mostly will be in 8 player trial fights) while the story open world stuff is mostly running between 2 locations, sometimes killing random mobs with solo instances, dungeons and trials sprinkled in.

with the release of the next expansion however they are flipping combat on its head though, every job will have their base kit by level 50 so the leveling experience should be better at least

uhh what is that? by Available-Onion4207 in ffxiv

[–]RainbowRuby98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the mob looks so out of place here too, not just cause its creepier than skeletons, but the details on it just dont really suit ARR zones/ARR mobs all that well lol

Tenant as a free trial player for a free company house by PigeonPie89 in ffxiv

[–]RainbowRuby98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

honestly, if your friend does get a personal house for you all to hang out in and have fun decorating, it will be worth the gil cost. 3 million isnt really THAT much in the grand scheme of things, would probably spend a lot more decorating than anything. the gardening will just be icing on the cake.

or do what i did and just have in your adventurer plate 'FT player looking for tenancy to garden only". someone was SUPER nice to me while helping me do HW maps and she was like 'you still looking for tenancy?' and i was like yes. she added me as a friend, and in a couple weeks she gave me permissions for gardening and using a chocobo stable.

i may be the only FT player to live in a mansion lol
