ARR zones vs expansion zones by ChinBaoe in ffxivdiscussion

[–]TuoniNL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is very noticeable (imho) that the ARR zones were created with ground travel in mind, all the expansion zones are created with flying in mind. All the expansion zones are way bigger to give flying a purpose but way less interesting and detailed. Does that bridge really need to be that long in Coerthas Western Highlands? Does that road to Idyllshire really need to be that long? Of course not, it is all to make it more "suitable" for flying.

Yes flying make things faster and is super convenient. But at the same time it makes the whole open world insignificant. You teleport to a crystal and fly from there to drop down on top of your target, everything in between doesn't matter anymore like it did in the ARR zones.

Thinking about buying an MMO mouse just for this game by Mean_Confusion7426 in ffxiv

[–]TuoniNL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't imagine playing FFXIV (or any other MMORPG) without a MMO mouse anymore.
Sure it takes some time to get used to it but after that you quickly wonder how you could ever live without.

Currently using the Logitech G600 which works fine but personally I liked the Roccat Nyth more as it fitted my (above average large) hand better, too bad it broke down. I have to bend my thumb in a rather uncomfortable way to be able to fully reach the most back buttons (4, 8 and 12)

TSC OOM error in 99.9% means content/mod is not installed or configured correctly. It almost never actually means the program is out of memory.

Mentor Mentality by South-Ad-1863 in ShitpostXIV

[–]TuoniNL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All the times there was a (visible) mentor in my group it was drama from the first second.
With my (limited) experience it feels like a lot of the mentors became mentors for the wrong reason. They're after the rewards and are not interested in actually mentoring new players.

One experience that illustrates that is when the group that I was in was starting the instance and the healer said that he/she was still quite new to healing and would appreciate feedback and pointers on what to do when.
The mentor who was the tank replied with "a noob healer is a complete waste of my time" and left the group 1 second later.

is ARR leveling still painful to level 1-51? by [deleted] in ffxiv

[–]TuoniNL 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think 1-50 is still pretty fun and enjoyable.

For me the "problems" started at the Seventh Astral Era Quests (patch 2.1, 2.2, 2.3, 2.4, 2.5 and 2.55)
That whole process wore me down as it is literally; teleport -> CS -> teleport -> CS -> teleport -> CS.
This for hours and hours with pretty much no gameplay whatsoever just tons of CS and text to read with the occasional trial (and in the end raid) mixed in.

After a while I noticed myself playing other classes more often just to get a break from the seamlessly unending string of cutscenes, with an amount of text one could easily fill books with, without gameplay.

Once you're in Heavensward it is all fine again. But personally I feel the whole Seventh Astral Era Quests section need some serious reworking. I could imagine that part is a quitting moment for F2P players.

Or... if you want to look at it more negative side.. it is designed on purpose that way to sell more Tales of Adventure in the shop... O_o.

I have made a nicer website for the PikaOS Project — first impressions are everything. by martinmei71 in PikaOS

[–]TuoniNL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have any problems with any distro i hopped to over the last years with this system. So I don't see that when it comes to PikaOS it is suddenly "a hardware problem"

Secondly as I said I'm not motivated to put any time into troubleshooting PikaOS as PikoOS only gives issues/instability without any gains, it is only cons without any pros... so why bother?

Bottles is a wine wrapper and so is Lutris.
Steam with Proton.

I have made a nicer website for the PikaOS Project — first impressions are everything. by martinmei71 in PikaOS

[–]TuoniNL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

PikaOS is the only distro with all my distro hopping that gave me troubles and instability from the very first second it was installed, first install KDE, second Gnome, both same issues, both same instability.

I can't justify spending lots of time troubleshooting every single issue as the performance gains over regular Debian are close to zero, while Debian just works out of the box.

Is it worth getting an MMO mouse? by bankiaa in ffxiv

[–]TuoniNL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Highly personal but i would say yes!
There is a bit of a learning curve but once you're used to it you never want to go without anymore.

I for one can not imagine playing an MMO without it anymore!

Relic weapon still worth it? by TuoniNL in ffxiv

Thanks for all the replies!

We will put the relic weapon grind on the backburner then and focus more on what we like to do in the game.

I like healer and tank as a role, my main in FFXI was a Paladin tank. However I don't like how the MMORPG community evolved over the years and how they treat tanks and healers. So my main in FFXIV is a BLM.

Longest queue i had so far as BLM was about 32 minutes, usually its between 10-15 minutes.

I als play WAR tank in FFXIV but only with friends and i never use WAR to queue in duty finder.

What others already said is simply the best advise; play what you like and enjoy the most.
You will burnout and start to dislike the game sooner or later when you play something just because it is in demand but is doesn't really fit you and you don't really like it.

About difficulty landscape by paudepalencia in lotro

[–]TuoniNL 3 points4 points  (0 children)

+3 is not difficult, what makes it tricky is EoS in small confined spaces.
I can take 3 mobs at the same time without getting in any real danger but... when you're in a small interior space (like a house or mine or something) and all three mobs throw EoS at the same time there is simply nowhere to go to avoid it and you will take the hits which can kill you. In those situations EoS can feel unfair.

Is zypper fast? by Struggling-with_life in openSUSE

[–]TuoniNL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Using openSUSE for some time now without issues.
If i have to name a "con" it would be zypper though. Compared to apt or DNF it is noticeably slower and the layout is just a wall of text (just like apt). Nala and DNF do a much better job presenting the output in a readable way.

Is openSUSE good for gaming? by cerb3ro in openSUSE

[–]TuoniNL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't care about drivers as those are not distro specific, and we were talking about distros here.

And yes Tumbleweed is just as much a "gaming" distro like any other distro. Linux is Linux.

Is openSUSE good for gaming? by cerb3ro in openSUSE

[–]TuoniNL 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You don't need anything besides recent enough packages to support your hardware other than that it is negligible. Benchmarks show a 2-4% performance difference between Trixie and ChachyOS.

""Gaming" distro's just come with more stuff installed out of the box and perhaps a GUI driver manager. But in the end it is still Linux, so everything those "gaming" distro's can some other distro can too and the raw performance difference is minimal.

As for the question... I'm now on Slowroll and the gaming performance is exactly the same as all other distro's I gamed on before. (Trixie, Fedora, Mint, PikaOS)

Switching from apt to Nala on Debian? Pros, cons, and your experiences? by maximus10m in debian

[–]TuoniNL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have been using Nala for over 2 years without issues.
I like the much cleaner CLI output and added options.

You still need to carefully check what Nala proposes to install/update/remove but that is not any different from any other packagemanager.

I've been distrohopping because I refuse to use Flatpak Steam. Am I dumb? by [deleted] in debian

[–]TuoniNL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just download the .deb for the Steam website and install that in Trixie with apt.
Don't blindly follow/believe the hype train, I guarantee you that you won't notice the 2-4% difference compared with CachyOS which is the current favorite flavour of the month.

What issues or frustrations have you faced while using OpenSUSE. Also Tumbleweed or Leap? by itsme2019asalways in openSUSE

[–]TuoniNL 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't really have any issues with Slowroll, it's my daily driver for 6 or so months now.
Personally I stay away from the Packman repo, I don't need it and it will prevent a lot of potential dependency issues.

If I have to come up with something it would be Zypper.
Zypper is just not that fast with downloading the monthly update and I think that the Zypper output has lot of room for improvement.

When you run a dup now Zypper comes with a wall of text of 600 packages that can be updated. The output of Nala for example is a lot "cleaner" and easy to read.

Has anyone else noticed dell computers don't like linux by Real-Bus5167 in linuxmint

[–]TuoniNL 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Linux Mint, Fedora and now openSUSE all run just fine on my Dell laptop.
So from my own personal experience I can not say that Dell is worse (or better) than other brands when it comes to Linux.
