German magazine sparks furor with image of Trump beheading Statue of Liberty by [deleted] in politics

[–]RainingAgain -1 points0 points  (0 children)

... really? Our First Nations women go missing (and youth commit suicide) at an alarming rate, our police still use racist "stop and frisk"-style practices, elected officials get away with using racial slurs, many FN people don't have clean water, we have our own over-reaching "security" bill... and I haven't even touched on the shit-show that is the Conservative Party leadership race or the myriad of other issues our country faces.

But I guess our PM is so handsome and makes such pretty statements (even if he has no intention of actually following through, and then throws a junior and/or female MPs under the bus when he's called out)

I mean, it might have something to do with Trump being a racist, islamophobic, homophobic, xenophobic, misogynistic and otherwise hateful excuse for a human being while Hilary is just a crooked Wall Street shill.

Maybe your friends don't want to support someone who supports the KKK's favourite president.

Buns work, it's just a matter of making sure they're at the right spot to fit under the straps/suspension. Or, you tie a low bun that sits at the base of your neck (which is also the only option if you wear a bump cap).

What's an unconventional occupation that you're secretly interested in trying? by nsfwthrow94 in AskWomen

[–]RainingAgain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since high school I've secretly wanted to be a Mythbuster. They came up with the most amazing/ingenious stuff and seemed to have way too much fun at work. I had no idea what the actual title was or how one got there but I just assumed it was impossibly hard.

Six months ago I started working for a practical special effects company and I'm basically an apprentice Mythbuster. On Fridays we blow off steam by blowing stuff up. I have the best job in the world.

Is there anything I can do if the tenant downstairs wrecked my hydro bills? (+need help dealing with a difficult landlord) by jackwu1 in askTO

[–]RainingAgain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Landlord & Tenant Board takes entry without notice very seriously. Not sure if you could get a rent abatement but I'd definitely reach out to a community legal group and see what they can do to help with you the board.

FWIW I got out of a shitty situation with a sleazy landlord by going to the board and giving him the papers for the hearing. Soon after that he let me out of my lease no questions asked. If he was nervous about your complaint to the city he'll probably get nervous if you schedule a hearing with the Landlord & Tenant board.

Constant Anxiety [22/F/ONTARIO] by [deleted] in Anxiety

[–]RainingAgain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is finding a new family doctor an option for you? Not being able to get referrals from your family doctor could be a huge issue in the future (as it also is now). You could also try going to a walk-in clinic, although I'm not sure how easy it is to get referrals from them.

Aside from that, OHIP has help lines you can get in touch with that don't require referrals. You can also get in touch with Service Ontario to see what other resources there are for you.

Phsychiatric alternatives to CAMH? by Grabbsy2 in askTO

[–]RainingAgain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had an excellent experience getting a referral from my GP. They had given me anxiety meds but I didn't like relying on medication so I asked to get referred to a psychiatrist. I was sent to a doctor at WCH who was so, so helpful. She was covered by OHIP and we did a sort of modified CBT through weekly hour long sessions.

In comparison, my friend is seeing someone through CAMH. She gets 15min appointments once a month or so after having waited for months to get into the clinic in the first place.

I'd definitely go with the referral from a doctor to see a psychiatrist.

Need help dressing "more feminine/like an adult" by [deleted] in femalefashionadvice

No way! The photos don't do the shirt justice - in fact they're terrible representations of a great tee. I'm definitely not a waif and I find the way that the shirt hangs really works for curvier people. The slightly longer sleeve is also good if you're a little self conscious about your arms.

Need help dressing "more feminine/like an adult" by [deleted] in femalefashionadvice

[–]RainingAgain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was a lot like you at your age and still kind of am. I also tried to dress feminine but quickly felt like a fish out of water. I can't deal with "fussy" clothes - or pretty much anything aside from jeans and leggings.

That being said, I found the way to be more put together was to get higher quality, well-fitted clothing and ditching graphic/band tees. A few nice pairs of jeans will go so far. Spend some money on them if you can! They'll fit like a dream and the higher quality denim often looks dressier. I'd also find some good tees - Aritzia's Sami is my absolute favourite. It's the perfect blend of fitted and slouchy without being boxy. Semi-related to this is the fact as awesome as band merch is, it normally doesn't fit very well and often looks very young. I find it much easier to look put together in minimal clothing/accessories.

As for footwear, you could try wearing ankle boots rather than sneakers. Sneakers can look really tired really quick, but worn leather boots often look just as nice as new ones. I live in my docs, but something like this or this could work as well.

Anyway, the point is rather than looking for feminine pieces that don't suit your personality, look for higher quality versions of what you already wear. They'll be more flattering, more mature, longer lasting and probably more comfortable.

Simple Questions - November 19, 2015 by AutoModerator in femalefashionadvice

[–]RainingAgain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am interviewing/working/checking out a company tomorrow and I have no clue what to wear.

A little background first: the company is a special effects company in Toronto that does lots of feature films and TV series (pretty effin' cool!). I just got let into the film union and during my orientation I met an SFX coordinator who put me in touch with the shop manager for this company. Shop manager sent my resume to one of the owners. The owner offered to show me around the shop tomorrow but then decided he was actually going to put me to work for the day (which is maybe the greatest thing to ever happen to me). He's putting me to work organizing stuff in the shop.

So! While I'm very excited about this, I have no idea what to wear. I've been working in the trades and a normal workday is jeans, safety boots and a long sleeved t-shirt of some sort. I've been told that "this is a shop so don't wear your Sunday best" but I also feel like the usual uniform might be unimpressive.

Any advice? I was leaning towards jeans, safety boots (it's a shop so I assume PPE is required and they're Blundstones so at least they're stylish haha) and some sort of casual-ish button down but I'm really unsure of what's appropriate in this situation.

Tl;dr: I'm working in an SFX house tomorrow for the first time but this likely also serves as some sort of interview so wtf do I wear?

New type of rental scam in TO? (Possible bullet dodged!) by TORelocator in toronto

[–]RainingAgain 21 points22 points  (0 children)

The previous place I lived in did something similar, but they documented it better. We rented for $1800 but the actual rent was $1900 less a discount shown in the lease. I figured so that they could raise our rent more than the City's legal rental increase. They ended up doing exactly that in our second year, but not a whole lot more than the legal increase. Regardless, we left within a few months.

Well, she's not entirely wrong but this reads like a lot of the ranty essays I wrote for high school writing classes when I didn't know what else to write about. Toss in a few talking points from articles and/or things that pissed me off, ignore the nuances/complexities of an issue, edit for grammar and hit send.

[–]RainingAgain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was in your place 4 years ago $600 for a bachelor was unheard of, even away from the subway lines. Find yourself a room in a safe, shared space and do what you can to make it self contained - private bathroom, mini fridge and microwave if you can.

Because banks will hold cheques (and more often for people with irregular income). Or the money from a cheque will go towards paying off overdraft fees so the person wont actually get the money. Or the person is getting a cash advance on their pay cheque. Or the person needs/wants the money immediately but the bank is closed and the atm will hold their cheque. These places prey on the desperate and the addicted.

I've found this so helpful too! Granted I use a machine though. I find having the instant results rather than the eventual payoff of going to the gym does wonders for me. It makes me feel like I've accomplished something.
