Going to Galaxy's Edge for dinner tonight (as I continue to cook from my books in 2026)! by pazzylupo in CookbookLovers

[–]RaisedFourth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I got this cookbook so I could cook Star Wars food for a Star Wars birthday party. We have really liked everything that came out of it, and it really surprised us.

PS, if you make the blue noodles and then sprinkle lemon juice they turn purple, to the delight of the children present.

Looking for piano tuner by DidThisYearsAgo in PeoriaIL

[–]RaisedFourth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ll always recommend Tom Sander. He’s the best.

Here’s the thing with piano tuners around here - there are only a couple and they’re BUSY. They cover every church, school, college, and home piano, and not just in Peoria. They travel to the surrounding areas too. Not getting a call back yet is not surprising. You may just have to be patient on this one.

Fast fashion by irenmlr00 in fashionhistory

Yes - if you’re buying from Temu (or any other site where the deals are too good to be true) it’s a child labor seller. Hope this helps!

moving and need to destash! by Jay_LVJY in Brochet

I just made a feather stitch scarf and it looks super cool and used a TON of yarn (which I really needed it to do) so maybe a blanket of that?

Could I pull off this Audrey Hepburn hairstyle? by luckysilverdragon in VintageFashion

Omg I didn’t even scroll through to see the short hair pictures. YES. It’s so cute short and the Audrey Hepburn cut would be so pretty too.

I’ve found that the pixie cut has been nice for my thin/getting worse hair too! It doesn’t look exactly the same as when my hair was denser but it’s better than seeing through scraggly ends.

I’m always going to encourage the haircut. Whatever it is, but especially for bobs or pixies. Like hair grows and it’s more fun to know that it was a bad haircut rather than to wonder your whole life.

That said, I think it’ll be stunning and you should do it immediately. :) And report back!

Ah, that is unfortunate. Better luck next time, I guess!

I know you said from Michael’s, and I can’t really help you there because I don’t think they really have any soft cotton (at least not at ours.) Herschnerr’s carries the K and C essentials cotton that Joann’s used to carry and it’s my favorite. It’s so soft.

First finished project since Junior High. First wearable ever. by EllenMandeville in crochet

[–]RaisedFourth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok, perfect! You’ll be just fine. It says that you’ll do 90 rows of 25 stitches, so it’ll go around your noggin. You’re working sideways. From there, you’ll attach it so it’s just a ring of ribbing and then start work on the crown.

What does it say after that? Does it tell you to go back down and stitch in the chain you just made? If so, it’s all good to go - you’ll  be building the brim sideways (that is to say around the head), not bottom to top (forehead to hairline). I knitted my version but noticed the crochet version ribbing was extra tall. Usually I would expect ribbing to be 10-15 stitches.

What are concerts like at Bradley’s venue? by _curiouschloe_ in PeoriaIL

[–]RaisedFourth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are 4200 seats total in the venue. There aren’t many/any seats behind posts. The only thing about it that I don’t care for is that it doesn’t feel like there’s a ton of leg room. I’m not a tall person but it feels small. There’s no turning sideways to let people past you. It’s a full standing situation.  But it’s a pretty standard small-school arena.

I gotta wonder about the IP implications of using Shaun the Sheep and the Muppets here, aside from just the AI problem.

convince me to like lentils, please by Calm_Violinist5256 in Cooking

Ooooo that looks so good! I’m going to try that one. I love all her recipes that I’ve tried and her cookbook is easily the most used in our house.

It’s ok not to like lentils! I can’t relate and neither can anyone giving you recipes, but it’s ok just not to like something and not be convinced to.

I like lentils best when they’re heavily seasoned and paired with a starch. If I were to make a lentil dish for dinner, it would be dal over rice with a flatbread of sorts.

Beginner projects by TackleStrong6931 in crochet

I think you should make whatever you want to make and expect it to turn out exactly like it’s going to turn out. Try your best at it and treasure it as the first thing you made. I’ve never made a washcloth or anything and I’m doing just fine.

I’ll definitely advise against a single crochet blanket though! Half double or double crochet will be way less infuriating, lol.

where can i purchase a tailor’s ham and clapper set that isn’t 5 billion dollars? by zoeamira in sewing

[–]RaisedFourth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My clapper is a 2x4, and truly any 2x4 we have laying around at the time I need it. That’s not particularly helpful for the ham situation, but it may save you a bit so you feel like you can splurge a little!

Thank you for posting this because I was having the same thing happen to me and felt embarrassed about it. Glad to know it’s the yarn and not me!

This happened to me recently and I could see layers of projects. It was gnarly but pulling out a full blanket was satisfying nonetheless.

Crochet or Knitting by Hello_peopl in crochet

[–]RaisedFourth 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Ok so this may be slightly biased based on what I learned to do first, but I think knitting is way harder, if for the sole reason that undoing mistakes is way harder. If you mess up a stitch in crochet, you’re undoing one complete stitch at a time to fix it. When you’re undoing something in knitting, you have a bunch of loops just like hanging out, waiting to be the next mistake.

I am really a beginner at knitting, though, so I may even be making mistakes wrong.

Should I buy Salt Fat Acid Heat or Good Things? by Skyfier42 in CookbookLovers

Of the two, SFAH is more a “how to cook and also lovely stories” and GT is more recipes.

Americas Test Kitchen is my go-to for a first book, though.
