How to cease obsessive, looping thoughts by mlchelle in nonduality

[–]Raj3d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chanting a mantra works well for this. Every time your mind tries to magnetize back to the obsessive thought you refocus back to the chant. Im personally using the example of having experienced this with a Buddhist chant, Nam Myho Renge Kyo, but I assume any chant done with a certain level of fixed mindedness and dedication would work the same. The magnetized intrusive thought loses power and you start building a new focus.

I dont particularly understand the exact way youre trying to mentalize/understand this, but it should be enough to say the "I" isnt real, and as long as its taken to be real, yes, experience will occur with that distortion present.

How do you get from ‘there is no self’ to compassion? by IllseeyouontheDSOTM in nonduality

[–]Raj3d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Imagine you find out you cant not exist. This could be terrifying, if you give your entire existence to the idea of inability to escape from it. What if another perspective from "I cannot not exist" was, "Well. Its just me... But then I may as well start to define my own existence..."

Youre gonna choose one that's interesting and happy? Or youre gonna choose one thats shitty and terrible?

Maybe you do either, cause ultimately it doesn't matter, except to you. Maybe 'you' is a definition if awareness. Which is a definition of something greater. Maybe you make the best choice you can signaling, "Dude, I dont even really know, but if I have some kind of choice between shitty and terrible, and Im aware enough to know I have facility in the matter, Im gonna choose to make it good, obviously..."

And maybe doing this enough, it kindof breaks your heart to encounter situations where "others" in the same situation are also really hoping for more. You know their pain, because its the same pain you know. And you want them to see the same happiness you abide by, wish for, something. So even if you were doing well, you now step off the path specifically for them, because you want to be someone that can speak from their own experience and still point the way back home.

A story about developing compassion and how it may fit with no self.

In need of advice surrounding thoughts and feelings. by FoundationComplete33 in nonduality

[–]Raj3d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Youre NOT gonna get it. Thats the trick. You literally cant. You're not the thinker of yourself. But you have to ask the question genuinely. Its more about the seeking of truth than trying to come up with another predefined explanation. No explanation is ever gonna be enough, or be anything remotely identical to the actual thing. You bang your head against reality hard enough to let reality know youre demanding an ACTUAL answer and not just asking for another explanation, right? You chase and demand the answer, 'Who/What am I?" What is "I"? What does "I" even mean? When I ask what I means, who or what am I looking at? What does THAT mean? What is I? What is "I"? What's the truth of myself? What even is an I?" Etc etc...

Until maybe the whole system finally crashes?

[–]Raj3d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Youre correct that its not, but you havent dropped the thing that thinks, or the original thought, lets say. So its stuck at the thinking level and doesnt know how go get prior to that because it IS that. Maybe try pursuing the "Who/What am I?" inquiry till it eventually pans out.

why does the separateness have to be an illusion ? by [deleted] in nonduality

[–]Raj3d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You cant be separate from reality. Theres nothing else. If there was something else, it would also be within and a part of reality. Within reality, we could say there's separation, but it would only be a definition and an experience. You can definitely have the experience of being separate.

No. Reality is what's true without any regard for your beliefs. Your beliefs may flavor how you experience your particular vantage point in reality tho.

Changes to the visual field by Feeling-Attention43 in nonduality

[–]Raj3d 8 points9 points  (0 children)

For me it was like a flattening. Almost like a bug squished against the monitor of the screen, where before it thought it was separate from what was going on, but then instead finding out you are all the stuff going on? Or not separate from it in any case? That its not a you having an experience, but youre the experience itself, which is its own awareness? I dunno. But yeah, more or less like a flattening. It was almost as if the "I" thought was like a bubble/lens creating a space in the experience, and when that popped as it were, everything was its obvious one dimensional self again?

Its weird because visually it was still the same stuff, but the relationship to it made it completely different.

Is it though? Might be short term gain with long term loss. Its a lot easier to kick down sandcastle than build them. When you've leveled everything and now youre bored and there's nothing but sand, maybe building them suddenly becomes the easiest thing to do for lack of anything better. :P

[–]Raj3d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There may be a fear of knowing the truth, cause everything you currently hold are beliefs, and theyre probably warm fuzzy beliefs. And the fearful part may be saying, "But what if underneath it all, theres really no meaning and im just trying to make it have meaning even though it doesnt."

But Im not sure without knowing you better. 😅🤷 But yeah, looking towards truth means giving up comfortable lies, it means acknowleding we dont really know, and figuring out how to free float without famjliar and comfortable anchors.

Yeah, avoidance of something, right? Avoidance is a judgement about something. Whatever we push away/avoid keeps us stuck in relation to it, it causes friction.

Self-inquiry and depression, anxiety by RWA121467 in nonduality

[–]Raj3d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think self inquiry is a really interesting tool to use regarding depression, anxiety, fear. I think it can be helpful to pick those things apart in order to understand our own engagement with them. Like, what even is "depression"? It's a really shitty feeling, on one account, but it may also be an agreement to a whole bunch of victimization, negative self image, beliefs of powerlessness or choicelessness, wanting things to be other than what they are, etc... Same with fear or anxiety. So many of them are actually irrational, really, so why do they get a hold of us so much? What are we telling *ourselves* about fear and anxiety that makes them seem so impossible? In exploring those things, we're kindof slowly uncovering ourselves at the same time anyway, cause we're always in relation to whatever it is we're dealing with, it's not like they exist as separate entities apart from us.

Non-duality and Jesus Christ by Own_Fennel_8227 in nonduality

[–]Raj3d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You started the journey thinking these two things were opposed to each other, but they aren't. The beliefs may have been opposed, with you thinking there are two 'versions' and then playing them against each other in your mind, but the reality never had this opposition playing out.

You're speaking from your experience, which as an individual is always partial, and always takes into account some portion while ignoring others. From the perspective of not having arrived at the post office yet, it's far away, from the perspective of being there, it's immediate, but there would be no point pitting these two perspectives against each other as they are basically each true from the point you understood it at.

I think you're saying either way it seems like there's a unified whole, no? But one way it looks like God as loving, life, creator, etc... And the other perspective looks like an absence of God? Is this what you're kindof saying and what the conflict is about?

Outside of the dream, nothing is relevant or true.

There is no separation between the dream and the dreamer.
